Chapter 5: EscapeKevin held a wet wash cloth to his eye and moaned. “Why did Dad have to hit me in the exact same eye as last time?” He sat on one of the beds, sniffling. His sister lay on the other bed; a couple of the scabs on her back had opened up, and she had a black eye and a b****y lip. Kevin’s heart beat wildly. Ash kept asking him what had happened, but he couldn’t tell her. Dayna wouldn’t like it if he told, and so far she still wasn’t talking to anyone. She still wore the ripped shirt, but she’d wrapped herself in a blanket after Ash had helped stop the bleeding. “If Dayna were feeling better we would leave right now,” Ash said. He nodded.
