Chapter 18: The RideDayna ground her teeth. She walked behind Ash, holding Kevin’s hand. Two of the older kids still walked with them; the rest had gone to the fire. “What are we going to do?” Kevin asked her. “That Jessie girl is lying. She’s been drinking just like everyone else; I can smell it.” “I can smell it, too. Whiskey and beer and those funny cigarettes Mom and Dad smoke.” “Yeah.” Ash threw her bag and the cooler in the back of an old blue Buick while Jessie started the car. “I hate this,” Kevin whimpered. Dayna squeezed his hand. “Ash won’t really go with her. Her parents died in a car crash.
