Ash stared out the window, sitting in the backseat of Eddie and Val’s car after six months of being locked up like a criminal.
“We’re not giving up on you,” Val said. “It’s only natural to want to see your brother. We’ll do better at arranging visits and—”
Ash had heard it all before. She got out of the car, plodding inside in apathy.
Within days, her life was the same as before she left. Same bedroom, same probation officer, same school…same grade.
“You have another letter,” Eddie said.
