Chapter 16: DepartureThe bench Ash slept on was surprisingly comfortable, but the sun was up now. Actually, it was way up; it was almost noon!
Dayna and Kevin were still asleep. Ash’s mind still reeled at what she had learned about their father. All thoughts about taking them to one of their relatives had vanished. They weren’t going back to any of those monsters.
Ash walked around the room that had been their home for three days. She smiled. It was too bad they had to leave. Maybe once she found Matt they could find a place like this to live.
“Whadder ya doin’?” Kevin mumbled.
Ash turned to see him blinking at her groggily. “Just taking a last look around. How do you feel?”
Kevin jumped up. “I feel pretty good. Do we leave today?”
