Unforseen Clash

Chapter 7:The Unforseen Clash. Aria's POV. I lay down on the soft mattress, my headache finally receding. My taut muscles loosened, and my body finally started cooling down. I lay on the blanket for fear of sweating even more and staining the sheets with my dirt and grime. In a few minutes, I got up. I looked around searching for any clothes I could change into. I was itching for a bath. All that fear left me disoriented and dirty. I opened the closet, finding a few items of clothing. I rifled through them, finding most of them in my size. They'd really done their homework, these people. As I moved through the hangers, I heard footsteps approaching. I closed the doors of the closet, running for the bed. I couldn't afford raising more suspicion. I'd raised more than enough. The footsteps moved past. They were going somewhere. But where? I got up, moving gently out of the room, making sure the footsteps were far away enough that when I opened the door, nobody looked back. The door slowly creaked open, and I squinted for fear of being caught. If even one of them turned around, I was in big trouble. I walked out of the room and in the direction of the footsteps. The footsteps were many and loud. It wasn't one person. There were many. Who were these? Was Damon sure? Were they with Damon? Why were they with him? Why were they going back in the direction we came? Well, I had to find out, and that was what I did. I walked in that direction, keeping a safe distance, so I wasn't seen. But this meant I couldn't see them either. I walked with them through the halls until they got to the same door. The same door. The one Reece had put me through not too long from now. The one he'd taken me into and made me a suspect. Where we'd kissed. I stood at a distance and watched them open it, filing in judiciously like they had a battle. They were going to fight Marcus. I saw Kael, and Damon wait for the others before stepping in themselves. I was right behind them, plunging my foot in the door just before the door closed. I kicked it open gently and followed behind, remembering it was an empty room, but for the fireplace. I ran for the fireplace, crouching beside it, whilst the men went straight for the hatch, the same handle that had almost marked my doom just minutes before. As they opened the hatch, he surfaced. Marcus. Him again. Fear gripped me. It boiled my blood and coursed through my veins. I stopped, breathless. His voice was loud, demanding. Everything flashed back to me. How I'd met him. How he'd forced me to be his mate. How I'd fought tooth and nail not to be with him. How my family insisted that I do it. That I was just an Omega, and this was my only way to the top. I'd gone along with it. They'd said he offered security. Security that I couldn't get myself otherwise. How I'd let myself be fooled with that. How I'd eventually fallen in love with him. With how crafty he was. How strong. How he went to every single battle without batting an eyelid. How he wanted the world and then some. How he took me. Made me his own every night. How he fought to protect me. Even though I knew that when we'd go home and it was just us two, he couldn't care less. How he made sure I was safe. And provided for. How he continued to make me feel less and less of myself till I lost him. The nights I'd spend sitting in our shared bed. Waiting for him. For a chance to prove that I too could be the woman he sought so much out there. Fighting tooth and nail to prove to him that I could make up for it. That I could be what he wanted. How he never saw that. How he'd stood before the entire town and rejected me, sending me back to where I'd started. How he'd let me lose myself only to throw me away like a dirty rag. He couldn't just come back seeking for me. I wasn't going to have any of it. I got up, standing behind the men. I was willing to challenge him, to show him how unafraid of him I was. His eyes met mine immediately. Our eyes were locked, and he held them as he stood up and walked towards the men. They looked behind, wondering what was suddenly driving him. The shock was unmistakable. “What are you doing here?” Damon. I saw everything in those eyes. Anger. Defeat. Fear. He was scared. “Why are you here?” That was Kael. Sometimes I wished he would just calm down, give a little room for talking. Or at least a little room for me to gather my thoughts. “Why are you here?” He barked this time, pushing him backwards towards the hatch door once again. “Well, I'm here for her and I'm not leaving until I....” He coughed, blood splattering out of his mouth quickly. He coughed again. More blood. This is bad. Why was he coughing up blood? He fell. He coughed continuously, gripping the floor to catch his breath. I stopped, breathless. He was becoming very pale now. He was losing blood rapidly, his entire body dirty and scarred from the fight of before. Large gashes ran across his arms and chest. He was bleeding profusely along with the blood he was losing from coughing. “What's going on? Are you okay?” I made to meet him, but two very strong hands stopped me from two people on either side. I was screaming. This was hurting me. Because as much as I would prefer not to admit. I still loved him. I hated everything he had done to me. All the humiliation he'd caused me. But I still loved him. I couldn't deny it. “I'm not leaving without her. That's the most important part of this. So give her to me and let peace reign.” The men ignored him, grabbing him by the arms and dragging him back into the hatch. With a turn of the hatch lock, he was gone. I blinked profusely, struggling to catch up. Then pitch black.
