Chapter 10: Kisses and Pack Politics.
Kael’s POV.
I looked into her eyes. She was trustworthy. I didn't know what it was, but I could feel it. I trusted her more than anything else, especially at that moment.
There was nothing I wouldn't do for this girl. This girl I met barely a day ago. I just couldn't put my finger on it. But she was mesmerizing. I looked in her deep, stormy eyes.
I wondered how in the world we'd gotten here. I'd come to question her. Get some answers. To try settle the quarrel between my brothers.I was more than sure we would argue. I expected her to be fuming before we were done. Now, we were here.
I didn't care how we'd gotten there if it was going to be the best part of my life. I took her face myself and kissed her.
This time I pushed for more. Hungry. Insatiable. I had waited a long time to do this. It was finally time to show her that I actually felt something for her. She had broken down all my defenses. And now I was ready to give them to her, one by one.
Her hands found their way in my hair, grabbing and pushing gently towards herself. We closed up the space between us, my hands snaking under her shirt. I grabbed her waist, kneading it.
We drank each other in quickly, like we couldn't get enough. I tasted hints of the sages' well-known green tea. It was all she made, so it wasn't hard to spot. I smiled through the kiss, only going back once I had settled in my head how funny it was that everything was a staple for that old woman.
She smiled right back. A questioning smile, wavering. I continued to kiss her. I pulled at her bottom lip, tugging a little more than gently. She closed the space, starting the cycle all over again.
I didn't even give a sh*t. This was it for me. This was perfect. This was safe. This was home. I wanted nothing more than to be with this woman. Whoever she was. I pulled away finally, letting us both catch our breath.
I'd made my decision. It was time. I took her hand and stood her up, walking her out of the room immediately. We walked out into the open field, and I stood staring at her.
“Do you know the fresh rule of pack politics?” I asked her. She obviously did not know anything at all. But I was willing to teach her slowly. She would know every single thing. And know just how great her capabilities were, as far as I was concerned. This went well beyond breaking the curse now. It was a personal mission.
All she really wanted was love. I was going to give that to her.
“Well, no. I don't know. I don't know a thing about pack politics. I hadn't been mated to Marcus a long time before he rejected me.” I frowned at the sound of that name.
“Very simple. The first rule? Never show fear.” I ran my hand through my hair, fixing what she'd done a few minutes ago.
“Well I got that part covered.” She laughed. I smiled right back at her. She was cute when she tried to be defiant. It just did not work very well.
“Well, I am going to teach you just how good at it you can get when you learn to not show fear under any circumst-” I threw my hand at her, stopping just centimeters away from her eyes. She paused. Eyes wide. Mouth in the very round shape of an ‘o’. She was beyond words.
“See what I am saying? Even in the worst of moments. You have to learn to keep your poker face.” I regained my position, pulling my hand away from her face.
“I see what you are talking about now. I haven't got that covered at all.” I laughed. It was easy being with her. There was little else I could do about it but laugh.
Soon, we had run over fear and how to not show it. And then I walked her through the hierarchy. And how everything worked. And the rules of our pack.
“We are rogues. That is the only way we run. By not showing fear. Because the minute you show a pack that they can defeat you. That is the minute you give them power. So no matter what, your face should be poised and graceful. Like you are incapable of a thing.” I walked and she stepped beside, nodding thoughtfully at my words.
“They shouldn't be able to tell your capabilities by your words. You need to use the surprise act. Ambush them. And that is the easiest way to beat them.” She continued nodding as I went, curiosity sparking in her eyes.
I loved how bright she was. Easily drinking the information in. And walking along with me. As we took a walk down the perimeter. I ran her through our history, leaving out the main story for when she was better prepared for it.
She needed the basics and then she would learn the rest as we went. Soon enough, I lost track of what I was teaching.
Our hands interlocked and it became just a nice little evening stroll. We breathed in evening air, walking around slowly. And I just could not take my eyes off of her.
She was mesmerizing. That is the only way to put it.
We walked around for a few minutes before finally deciding it was time to go inside. And then I walked her straight to her room and laid her down, placing a kiss on her forehead before going to attend to other matters.
“Hey Kael?” I stopped.
“Yeah?” I was standing in the doorway now.
“I had a great time this evening. And I learned a lot. How about we pick this up tomorrow?” That was an invite. I smiled.
“Whatever you want.” I left her room easily. A smile plastered on my face despite myself.
I'd never been happier to see my brothers fight.
