"Im going to ask Gus to prom today".Jules said as soon as they sattled down in the cafeteria for lunch.
"Whoa,you finally mustered up the courage,huh?".Terry asked with a smirk.
"I don't think he would agree though".Tina said."He's still hung up on that Lori girl.He started dating her at the beginning of school yearand we have just a month and half till graduation.Hell,that's the longest he has ever dated a girl and she just broke up with him 'cos her mum said so,I hate what she's doing to Gus.
"I'm going to try make him forget her".Jules said.
"Its not going to be easy".Tina said with a resigned sigh.
"I know but there's no harm in trying".Jules said taking a bite of her lunch.
"Okay".Katie chipped in,"Enough of the Gus talk,we have algebra after lunch and I was wondering if any of you would explain this to me".she concluded placing a book on the table.
"This formula is confusing",Terry answered."I don't really understand it myself but Brian said he would teach me.I am going over to his place after school".
"Let me see it".Tina said reaching for the book,"Algebra is just my thing".
Knock............ knock
"come in".Gus called from within.
Jules took a deep breath before entering the room.
"Hi",she said as she entered.."Your mum wanted to bring this to you but I opted to do it since I wanted to talk to you anyway".
"Thanks".He said as he collected the mug from her."What do you want to talk to me about?".
"Prom".
"I'm not going".
"How can you not go??"Jules asked in a high pitched voice..
"Calm down",Gus said patting her arm."It's not the end of the world".
"Its a once in a lifetime thing,you can't just pass it up".
"I know....there's nobody to go with".
"You don't have to go with anybody.......would it make a difference if I said I will go with you?".
"You don't have to do this for me".
"I want to"Jules said."Besides,I will be doing it fo myself too".
"Thanks but no"Gus said with a sheepish grin.
"Ouch".Jules said hands on her chest."You sure do know how to turn a girl down".
"I'm sorry.Under normal circumstances,I would go with you but I don't. want to go to prom with one girl while thinking of another.It wouldn't be fair on the both of us.Lori is 'gonna dominate my thoughts,she is the only oone I want to go with.Damn".Gus swore,"I like her way too much already and she didn't even give me a tangible reason for our breakup".
"Maybe its love".Jules said with a slight chuckle.
"I've been tinking about that".
"I was kidding,seventeen is too young to fall in love".
"I don't think so..Its nice to know that even with my current physical appearance you still find me attractive".
"Are you fishing for. Compliments?".Jules asked laughing at his cocky expression.
"Yeah,I need to hear those words".
"Okay,you are gorgeous............."maybe its time to let go..... Jules thought to herself........ he is never going to see me as anything but a friend and maybe a sister......
"Is that the only thing you could think of?".Gus asked,cutting her train of thoughts.
"Nahh,but I think I've boosted your ego enough".Jules answered standing up."For what its worth,it was really nice having this conversation with you.It. Clarified a lot of things".
"Like..?".
"Nevermind..Oh and goodluck with Lori".
"Yeah thanks,aren't you going to take the mug down?".
"No,I think you are strong enough to do that yourself..Your mum has been worrying".Jules said walking out.
"Okay,I would do just that.Just to let her know I haven't killed myself yet".Gus shouted after her tongue in cheek.
