Chapter 3
Gael is frustrated that he can't give a proper explanation of whatever happened between them, but he can't do anything but go back to the hotel where he's staying and call his friend and lawyer, Johan walks into his room for half an hour. After he called him.
– Luckily it wasn't anything of such importance.
Gael complains, his friend smiles
– Sometimes you forget that I have a life of my own – his friend complains – why do you need me so urgently?
She sits across from him and pays her full attention.
– What are the chances Damon knows about Raily? – the question catches Johan off guard
– There's no chance, I made sure that every time Damon was around that topic would be buried, so it's impossible.
He reiterates.
– Well, you're wrong, he knows about her, and last night while you were living your life, he looked for her and got me in trouble.
tells him.
– Damon was here last night? Gael nods.
It is a secret that only Johan and his doctor know, but Gael is not an average person, for ten years he lives a half-life, he shares his body with Damon, and he and Damon have nothing more in common than their body.
Some doctors told him that the double personality was something that did not exist, however, they could not explain what was happening to him either, until he found Dr. Demir Latur, who gave him the most accurate explanation he has ever heard. According to him, due to a trauma in his childhood, Gael's personality split, and Damon emerged from there.
But it is something that no one can know if his family found out about the situation he would end up on a plane to the North Pole, with them, he has to be perfect, and although he must be careful with Damon because his personality is explosive, he has managed to keep him away from them. They, of course, all believe that he is elusive and antisocial, but it is a price that he has to pay because they do not consider him a monster.
– And I don't know what he said to the girl, but it didn't sit well with him to see me, I even thought he was going to throw something at me.
Johan's reaction is to laugh, he doesn't get along with Damon at all, they've even had physical fights while he tries to prevent Gael from getting caught, but he always laughs when he gets him into this kind of trouble, even though he knows that at least the Half the dilemma is going to have to be fixed by him.
– What excuse are you going to use? - The question
– I can't tell him that I have a twin brother because he may find out that I'm not, I can't tell him that he was drunk either because I imagine that Damon, as usual, didn't have a drink, telling him the truth is not an option, so the most What I can do is apologize and tell her that I was too curious and that when I saw her at the bar I couldn't contain myself and I went over to meet her.
Gael sighs and looks at Johan.
– Or do I have another option? -– I can't tell him that I have a twin brother because he may find out that I'm not, I can't tell him that he was drunk either because I imagine that Damon, as usual, didn't have a drink, telling him the truth is not an option, so the most What I can do is apologize and tell her that I was too curious and that when I saw her at the bar I couldn't contain myself and I went over to meet her.
Gael sighs and looks at Johan.
– Or do I have another option? - The question
– I don't think so, but you can't jump in like that without knowing what happened, you don't know what he told her, and we don't know how much Damon knows and how much he told her, let me go and talk to her to find out what happened, and then You're going to see her one more time.
The plan seems adequate to Gael, in any case, something must be done.
– I thought this would be simpler, but that crazy girl even yelled at me that she doesn't want anything from that family, I don't believe a word of her, but if she wants us to believe that role it's going to be very complicated.
He explains to Johan, the latter looks at him sardonically.
– You shouldn't be so incredulous, maybe the real girl has no interest in the Demiljan estate, you aren't going crazy about it.
He reminds you politely.
– I can't love it, it's different. If I insist on owning the Demiljan Damon estate, it's going to be exposed, I can't have it.
He clarifies a point that was forgotten by his friend.
– Anyway, stay here where I can locate you, and if possible don't let Damon show up, I'll go see your sister and let you know what she tells me.
– She's not my sister, she's my mother's husband's daughter, don't ever say she's my sister again.
– Whatever you say, you have to see what your family record says.
That reminds him that according to all papers he is the son of his stepfather, his mother took it upon himself to erase his real father from any record and turn him into a Demiljan, even though he knows he is not, almost no one knows.
Johan goes to the hospital and has to wait for Raily to attend to him, he's sure he's doing it on purpose to get him to leave, but if he's learned anything from working with the Demiljans, it's that he has to be patient.
It's almost seven at night when a nurse finally lets him in, so he can see her, she's sitting behind her desk and looking at him through the glass of her glasses, she has to control herself not to laugh, she wants to appear intimidating.
Though he wouldn't have to talk to this lawyer again, but he doesgivdgiveeily.
– Honestly, I don't know what you're here to tell me, I think I was very clear with the son of that family – it's hard for her to even say her last name, it was better when she didn't know where she came from, she could at least imagine that her family abandoned her because they didn't have resources to stay with it, and it is quite hard to prove that this is not the case.
– Give me a few minutes, I'll be as brief as possible.
The handsome lawyer takes a seat even before she asks, Raily settles back in his chair and prepares to listen to another round of lies.
– Can you explain to me what happened to young Demiljan? – She asks him, and she tries not to get upset, she knows that doing it with this kind of person is not worth it.
– Your boss found me last night in a bar, pretended to be someone else, and even had the nerve to come here, and to top it all off he kissed me before he left. Do you think that after all that activity, I would have to greet you today with a smile??
She asks indignantly, the lawyer lowers his head, and she gives the impression that he is smiling.
– Do you find that behavior funny? – he instantly denies
– Right now I'm weighing my options, I feel like anything I say to justify it would be wrong, so I'm going to go with sincerity.
To her, all this seems like theater, but she is an educated person and knows that she has to listen to the end and thus draw her conclusions.
– If I ask you a question about a patient, can't you share it with anyone? - He doesn't understand the drastic change of topic, but he agrees.
– Of course, I can't spread information about a patient, that's against the code of ethics for doctors.
She is sure that the lawyer is aware of this and that is why she asked, but she corroborates it anyway.
– Who you met last night is Damon, and he's not the same person you saw this morning.
Ray blinks a few times, then starts laughing.
– Is that your pathetic justification? – he asks – it seems to me that no matter how much the twins look alike, they would have something different, and it also seems to me that his saturated forehead makes it clear to me who was the man I saw last night – he tells him to stop saying nonsense.
– It's not that, Gael Demiljan has a dissociative personality disorder, or as people commonly call him, split personality. Both Gael and Damon live within the same body, but they are not the same person.
She's a doctor, she has ethics, and she's used to hearing things even crazier than this, but she knows that this is just a justification and that bothers her, she touches the back of her neck to relieve some of the tension.
– As a lawyer, you should have a bit of ethics, it is not right to invent illnesses for a healthy person to justify something that has no justification.
– First, stop calling me a lawyer, now I'm talking to you as Gael's friend, I'm even trusting you with something that I'm not supposed to tell anyone, my name is Johan – she nods – that point cleared up, think carefully about the situation, you met Damon last night - Raily nods – and this morning Gael – nods again – do you think that besides their appearance there is something else they have in common?
Ray thinks about it, and he doesn't want to believe it, but if he thinks about it the lawyer has a point, it has nothing to do with the men he met, Damon exudes confidence while Gael has a hard time socializing with people Even Damon is more attractive than Gael even though they look the same.
– Go – the lawyer tells her, pointing at her with a finger – she is realizing what I am saying
– Don't claim victory, before I believe something like that I have to see it with my own eyes, so take me to where he is, right now.
For both Ray and Johan it is a rather complicated dilemma, he thought he would have the opportunity to explain to Gael that he had to tell him the truth, and she doesn't know if, with her little experience, she will be able to realize if she really has A problem like that, or he's just faking it, however, they both will have to face it because now they don't have any other choice.
