I carefully lifted her out of the cooling water. I wrapped her in a big, soft towel, dried her off, and carried her to the bed to tuck her in. She was sleeping deeply. Even in her sleep, her hand clutched the necklace around her neck. I sat by the bed for a long time, just watching her. Moonlight shone through the gap in the curtains, casting a soft shadow on her face. She was beautiful but fragile. She had carried way too much pain that she didn't deserve. But this ends now.
