Linda's eyes widened in horror as Malakai's blade sliced through the air, heading straight for her heart. She tried to defend herself, but it was too late. The blade struck true, and Linda felt a searing pain as her life force began to ebb away.
As she fell to the ground, Linda saw the guardian's face above her, filled with grief and regret. "I'm sorry, Linda," the guardian whispered. "I failed to protect you."
