I swallowed and entered the room. The first thing I noticed was two glass French doors leading out to a balcony with a waterfall in view. Then off on one side was a huge king-sized four-poster bed with deep purple drapes. The bedding was deep purple as well and looked so soft. The walls were a light cream that looked amazing with the natural cave walls that poked through in places. There was a beautiful rug between the bed and a small lounging couch. A TV hung up on the wall in front of the couch. A beautiful fireplace sat in the corner with a picture of my parents, the king and queen above it. There was a small table with a couple of chairs by the balcony doors, with a beautiful vase of flowers at its center, along with another photo of Anthony's parents. Our parents, Anthony, must have put it there.
There was a door next to the TV that I assumed was the closet and a door by the bed that must be the bathroom. I was dumbfounded. It was pristine. Something out of a fairytale. I walked in further and ran my hand over everything I passed. The bedding was indeed very soft. The drapes were so lightweight but thick. “This isn’t real Anthony. I am going to love taking a nap in this dream of a bedroom. How do I go from being your kid sister, worried about finding my mate and becoming a strong warrior like you, to this? A Princess to a stolen kingdom. A princess who has done nothing but leave death in her wake. How am I going to do this?”
Anthony opened his mouth to speak but as he was about to Alpha David walked in. “You just do. You accept your fate. You take it step by step and day by day. You realize how many people count on you and so you move forward. Leaving the past in the past as fond memories and nothing more.” Anthony and I both stared at him. “Sorry I did not mean to barge in or eavesdrop. I came to discuss you not wanting to train later and overheard. I trust everything is to your liking?”
“Yes, very much so, thank you.” I responded. Alpha David nodded then stared at Anthony.
“I told her to rest before being shown around or introduced to everyone.” Alpha David nodded to that as well. Anthony had walked over to the door. “Rest Clara. I mean it, you look terrible. I’ll see you later.”
“I promise Anthony.” He smiled at me then turned and left me alone with Alpha David. I turned to him and I walked over to where he was, breathing in his scent. “Thank you for all of this. It really is more than I need. I’m grateful.”
David turned to look at me and, after a moment of hesitation, spoke. “Clara, my father did this, not I. All I have done is continue his work. I will be honest with you. I think all this” he gestured around him, “is stupid. We are at war. You’ll find the other rooms less… extravagant. I really do hope you can relax and be ready later for training. I deny your request not to be there. There is too much at stake and no time to waste. This isn’t your pack where I am sure you were treated like a princess who got her way. I hope you can understand. I am sure the climb was not easy. But that is nothing compared to what the future holds. It is time to be strong. In this pack everyone is treated equally and my people have been patiently waiting for you. I will not make them wait longer to see why they have had to go without so many things and work so hard. I will see you at dinner, and then at training.” At that he turned on his heels, leaving me with my mouth agape. He strode swiftly out of the room and shut my door behind him with a loud bang. I shook my head. “Asshole,” I muttered at the door. How dare he speak to me like that. He didn’t know me. He acted as though I was a spoiled brat. I must have been crazy to be so attracted to him.
I turned and went to the other door. I figured it was the bathroom and went in. It too was big and fancy and, in all greys, and whites and purples. I turned to the big walk in the shower. There was no door, it just fit perfectly into the wall. I turned it on and then stripped and stepped in. I watched the hot water roll off my body in dark brown rivers down the drain. Bits of leaves and grass also ran off me. I took the soap on the mantle and started scrubbing the filth from the last few days off me. When I was sure I was clean, I stepped out and grabbed a towel. I brushed my teeth and ran a brush through my hair angrily. I went to the closet, which ended up being a huge walk in. I grabbed some workout clothes and threw them on. I grabbed the running shoes off the shelf in the closet and walked out of the closet. Surprisingly, everything was in my size.
I threw my still wet hair in a high pony and left the room. I was so angry I was fuming. I needed to release some anger. I walked on not knowing where I was going. I ended up at the spot they had found me. I walked to the edge and looked down. It was high up. “Princess, you shouldn’t be here. You should be on the other side of the tunnel. Dinner is about to begin.” I looked at him and walked off before anyone could say another word. I finally found a small room that had some workout equipment. I went to the punching bag.
I let all my frustration out on it. I screamed at it a few times too. I was so lost in my attack on the punching bag I hadn’t noticed how much time had passed or that it gained an audience. I was angry, sad, and lost. My whole world had been turned upside down, I had lost my parents, pack, and my mate all in one day. I let my tears flow down my face. I screamed some more and started hitting it harder. Suddenly, the bag fell to the floor as it split open, and sand spilled out all over the floor. I jumped back with my eyes wide. It made me angrier; I was not done! I looked at the wall, and without thinking about it, started punching it, letting myself snap. I felt heat flow through me. The rock wall was chipping slowly away at my attack and I could smell and see my blood on the wall too. I felt my knuckles crack as a let out an angry scream, and that’s when I heard the murmurs. I looked up and turned around and saw a big group of people watching me. Anthony was pushing through the crowd towards me with tears in his eyes, looking worried as ever. I saw Alpha David standing with his arms crossed in a back corner looking, too. He looked like everyone else did, shocked. Anthony had reached me and pulled me into a hug and started leading me away from the room and all the people. “Clara, sweetie, you need rest, come.” I jerked out of his arms. “No. I was very rudely reminded that there is no time for rest. Show me the plans for getting rid of this usurper. NOW.”
