Audrey’s pov After the encounter we had last night, the following day,we had to go on a honeymoon to Barcelona ,Spain because Nicholas had to go on a business trip there and he asked to follow him for reasons best known to him. As expected,we took a private jet to Barcelona, Spain for the honeymoon. As we stepped into the luxurious hotel lobby, Nicholas handed the receptionist his credit card. "Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Brookes," she said with a warm smile. "Your room is ready." I felt a pang of discomfort at the "Mrs." prefix. Nicholas took the key card and turned to me. "Shall we?" I nodded, following him to the elevator. As we entered the room, I noticed the single king-sized bed. "Nicholas, I thought we'd have separate rooms," I said, trying to sound casual. He raised an eyebrow. "Separate rooms? We're married, Audery. What would people think?" I bit back my retort. We weren't really married, but I didn't want to start a fight. The tension between us was obvious as we began to unpack. After unpacking my bags, from the side of my eye,I saw that Nicholas had changed into a business suit ready to go out. I’m glad because I can’t stand his presence and I will be alone for a while. I felt movement around me and I heard him speak. “I’m going out to meet some clients, don’t wait for me”,before I could say anything,he left the room already. I couldn’t help but say” Arrogant ass.” Scrolling through social media,I saw that our pictures from the airport had been posted with the caption “ favorite and lovely couple,” I laughed at this because it’s actually the opposite. I was bored after that so I decided to get dressed and go for a stroll. The day is still young and the hotel looks like it’s not interesting during the day so I walked through the city of Barcelona . I wandered through the narrow, winding streets of the Gothic Quarter, admiring the ancient buildings, vintage shops, and charming cafes. I strolled along La Rambla, the famous pedestrian walkway, lined with street performers, flower sellers, and lively restaurant. The enticing aromas of seafood, tapas, and local cuisine wafted through the air, tempting my taste buds. I explored La Boqueria Market, marveling at the colorful produce, cheeses, and cured meats. I checked the time on my phone. Oops,it’s late already. I had no idea that the sightseeing took time. I headed to the hotel and on getting there. I meet Nicholas sitting on the bed, typing away on his laptop. His face darkened as I walked in, my smile still radiant from my day out. "Where have you been?" he demanded, his voice low and menacing. "Sightseeing," I replied, unwrapping my scarf. "You were supposed to be back hours ago." "I lost track of time." Nicholas's eyes narrowed. "You're my wife. You'll do as I say." I stood tall, my voice steady. "I'm not a prisoner, Nicholas. I won't be controlled." His jaw clenched. "You'll do as I say, or face consequences." Nicholas' eyes flashed. "I'm not afraid of you, Nicholas. You can't dictate my every move." Nicholas's face reddened, but I continued. "I'm my own person, with my own thoughts and desires. You can't own me." The air was thick with tension, but I didn't back down. Nicholas's anger is indifferent, He knows I won’t back down and I’m not intimidated by him. For a moment, we locked eyes, the power dynamic shifting. Then Nicholas turned, his voice cold. "We'll discuss this later." I nodded, my heart pounding, but my spirit unbroken. After showering and getting dressed in the bathroom,I went straight to the bed, created some boundaries with the pillow. He looked at me as if I’m crazy. “I don’t want to have anything to do with you,you know.” Nicholas said to me. “I’m doing this because I don’t want any funny business.” I scoffed at him. He made no response to what I said and I went ahead to lie on the bed to get some good sleep after today’s sightseeing. I wondered on the bed what tomorrow will be about. I thought of going to the beach. I’ve never felt so free like this before because of my controlling parents. “Get ready for tomorrow, we’re going to a dinner party of one of my investors.” “A dinner party?,I hate these things so much, can’t you go alone?” I groaned. “It’s absolutely none of my business if you hate it,just get ready tomorrow’s night for dinner, wife.” I rolled my eyes at his absurdity. I drifted off to sleep thinking about what’s coming for me tomorrow. Evening drew in and it was time for the party. We arrived at Mr. Thompson's estate, mingling with influential guests. I'm usually reserved, but I wanted to let loose tonight. The wine flowed, and I found myself giggling at Mr. Thompson’s jokes, accepting refill after refill. Nicholas, sitting beside me grew increasingly uncomfortable. His eyes narrowed as my laughter grew louder, my words slurring. I was happy for a while because I’m able to rile him up. As the main course arrived, I stood up, swaying slightly, and raised my glass. "To new friendships and business deals!" The room applauded, but Nicholas's face darkened. He grasped my arm, his grip tight. "Sit down, Audrey You've had enough." I pulled free, my eyes flashing. "I'm fine, Nicholas. Relax." Nicholas's voice dropped to a whisper. "You're embarrassing me." My smile faltered, but I didn't back down. "I'm just having fun, Nicholas. Lighten up." The evening wore on,my antics became more reckless. Nicholas' anger was pent up,his displeasure evident. He grasped my elbow, steering me toward the exit. In the car, my haze began to clear. "What's wrong, Nicholas?" Nicholas's voice was icy. "You embarrassed me tonight. In front of Mr. Thompson. Do you have any idea how much funding is at stake?" “I didn’t do anything to embarrass you,I only had a few drinks, relax.” “Do you even know what you’re saying?,I should relax? It was my mistake arguing with a drunk woman.” I giggled at that because it was fun riling him up even though I was not drunk, just tipsy and It was something I planned on my head for payback. “Who knew a little recklessness could be so much fun?”
