"What about you?" Emman asks, placing his hand gently on my shoulder.
"Yeah, you will hideout with us, right?" Emily follows his lead in trapping me in the conversation. I tried to avoid the subject. But I had to tell them some way.
"No, I have to fight back," I tell them.
"But, you don't have your powers here," Emman reasons, trying to stop me from I had been destined for.
"What? Why do you know that?" Kiki speaks up, wondering where Emman's general knowledge of my being came from.
"He knows," I answer him. "He overheard me talk about it while we were dating."
"I knew long before we dated. I knew the moment I laid eyes on you."
"Wow, was the lobster that good?" I ask him, taken aback by his blunt statement. It was too emotional and laced with personal agendas that I was not ready to tackle yet. I had to focus on the task at hand.
"What? No, I knew you before that time. Remember the sidewalk incident? The same day you were taken to jail? Where you met Emily?"
"Well, don't tell me your shenanigans date back to that imprisonment?" I gasped aloud. Were they that psychotic? Was saving the humans really worth all this while?
"No, you have to know this about me. I was never in on Emily's lies. She was obsessive and manipulative," Emman rants on, but seeing Emily's red and furious face, he stops.
"I was never that evil. I know I have my issues. No need to rub it, Emman." She remarks.
"Don't beat yourself up, Em. No one is at fault here. You were provoked, you were just reacting to his words. It shouldn't have gone that far, but I understand you cracked after dealing with emotional trouble for years." I reassure the anxious Emily after having been put in the spotlight.
My statement however, only enrage Emman, causing him to walkout of the room.
"I'll go talk to that knucklehead," Kiki stormed out before we could even think of stopping him.
Peter stood up all of a sudden, his woeful eyes stared down at the floor as he started to walk out.
"Where are you going?" I asked, with unmasked concern as I rushed to stand.
"I'll just gather everyone from their chambers, clear out essential items." He said simply. I watched, feeling lost for words, as everyone else walked out and closed the door behind him, and the room felt a little bit colder, leaving Emily and I to talk.
I knew what I had to do while I had the time. I hadn't confronted Emily about our past. It all seemed irrelevant, but here we were, given the time of day to talk. She seemed confused at first by my intimidation stare and jumbled the papers and notebooks she was holding up, but then he managed to place them on the desk neraby, putting papers aside and giving me her undivided attention.
"What should we talk about first, Santi?" She asked, a barely there smirk evident on his face.
"Can I ask you for a favour?" I said getting straight to the point.
"Will you promise to take care and help Emman move on and everything?" I had gathered all my strength and courage to ask this from her. I knew Emman and I was a doomed love story from the beginning. But I just can't help thinking about what his future might hold when I leave.
Shaking her head, she answers,"Why? Where are you going? That would not be fair of you to leave him again."
"I know but I need you to do it for me. As his twin sister," I requested again, hoping she would help despite our differences.
Her brows furrowed at my serious tone, "What are you talking about, what is going to happen, Santi?"
"I don't know. But something will happen today, and I have to know for sure that Emman will be fine without me." I could see from her expression that it was hard for her to believe what I was spitting out.
"Okay, okay, relax," She finally snaps out of her momentary blank stare.
I took a step back. She still doesn't acknowledge my request which troubled me.
"No, I won't relax. Not if I can't help him. Emman has been through so much. You put him through so much. Him and I, you caused this huge rift between us. The least you can do is help him out when I'm gone. I need you to promise me that, Em." Panic rose to my voice. I could not afford unstable emotions right now. I had to focus my strength for the fight. But it seemed inevitable, seeing Emman's crestfallen face earlier.
"I promise, so as long as you make sure to say goodbye." Emily finally answers.
