Chapter Four

2303 Words
Genesis The next morning I groaned as I rubbed my eyes with the back of my hand. I had another vision last night, but this one slightly more blurred. Rubbing my eyes again I groaned, Over the years I had learned my visions came in two forms:  Bright, colorful, and vivid where I could remember every little detail down to scent and auditory. The others were shrouded in darkness and blurry, waking me to a distant image that I struggled to understand what all was going on and oftentimes left me disoriented.  They’re not real. I chanted in my mind as I used everything I could to push the sluggish feeling from my system. Once my mind had begun to clear I checked to make sure my mental walls were up, which thankfully they were.  I need to do more research, and if at all possible. I need strong evidence, I can’t just go out and arrest a random unsuspecting vampire. I pulled on my green army pants, black short sleeved shirt, and black combat boots on. I quickly braided my hair back sealing it with an elastic. Once satisfied I grabbed my hunting kit and trudged out of my room.  As I walked through the house I stopped to find Alexander in the kitchen. He was shirtless, and the lines of lean muscle proved my earlier observation correct. My eyes drank in his topless form his smooth tanned skin, and I didn’t miss the happy trail that disappeared into his sweats.  “Like what you see?” He smirked from behind his coffee cup. My cheeks warmed. I moved further into the kitchen, checking the coffee pot to see that it was empty.  “Did you make coffee?”  “No, I made tea. Half the caffeine and doesn’t leave a bad taste in your mouth. Would you like a cup?” Alexander offered.  “I'll give it a try.” I nodded. Alexander gave me a gentle smile as he moved to fix me a cup of tea. He worked quietly, the only sounds coming from the kitchen being the clinking of the cup and spoon.  “What are you up so early?” I asked, breaking the silence. Alexander chuckled as he passed me the cup of tea.  “The early bird catches the worm,” he quoted. “I’ve always been a morning person, I especially like my morning tea.” He hummed happily as he took a sip. Glancing down at the cup in my hands I took a sip, the smooth robust flavor covered my taste buds. The sugar and milk enhanced it’s flavor making me hum in appreciation of the warm beverage.  “This is delicious,” I grinned. Alexander’s eyes never left mine as a grin settled on his lips.  “It’s English breakfast tea. I always have a supply on hand, can’t go without it.”  Alexander surprised me, of the short time that I’ve known him he’s been nothing but kind and cooperative. My mind drifted to the absent Cedric.  “Where’s Cedric?” Alexander's lips pulled down into a scowl. “He went for a run, best to leave him to it lest he lashes out.” He set his cup down and approached me, I stepped back rubbing against the counter in the process. He removed the coffee cup from my hands and set it away then bringing his arms back to cage me in. His body brushed against mine ever so lightly. Last night's confession surged to the forefront of my mind. “Tell me, did Cedric tell you what you are to him?” His voice rumbled lowly, so low that I was sure from the sound alone I would be in a puddle on the floor. I nodded quickly, my knuckles lightening as I gripped the edge of the counter.  “You’re mine too, you know. Those sparks that you feel?” Alexander ran a finger along my jaw, inciting lingering tingles. “It's the bond,” Alexander narrowed his eyes at me. “Are you sure you’re a human? Human mates are very rare for mythologicals.” Alexander questioned. A deep growl came from the entrance to the kitchen, our heads turned to find a glaring Cedric. Alexander smirked, pressing his body further into my own I squeaked at the contact. Alexander's lips connected with mine as he claimed my first kiss. My self control loosened as I gave in ever so slightly. His tongue grazed over my bottom lip asking for entrance. An odd sound came from the back of my throat as he nipped my bottom lip and slipped his tongue in.  Alexander was ripped from me, leaving me to stagger and land on my bottom. Cedric had Alexander pressed against the wall, his hand wound tightly around his neck. Scrambling to my feet I rush towards the two.  “Break it up!” I growl gripping Cedric’s bicep and squeezing hard while also sending out an electric shock. Cedric shot me a glare before releasing Alexander’s neck.  “What is going on with you two?!” I scream glancing between the two scowling men.  “Cedric has a difficult time sharing.” Alexander teased as he rubbed his slightly bruised throat. Cedric glared at me, his green eyes deep and stormy.  “We had an agreement.” He stated simply.  “Someone better spill, right now. If we’re going to be working as a team then we need to get whatever,” I spin my finger between the three of us. “This is together.” Alexander averted his gaze and rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.  “As I told you before, you’re our mate. Now, this isn’t all that common. But considering Cedric already has a fiancé I wanted to take you for myself.”  “I told you I had no intentions of marrying Christa.” Cedric argued, his thick Scottish accent peaking through. Alexander rolled his eyes.  “Well, how about this. I’m not taking anyone as a mate. There are people that need to be protected and mythologicals to be controlled. I’ve got work to do.” I growled, I felt my electric simmering just under my skin. I reigned it in just as I slammed the front door behind me. I threw my utility bag into my jeep and climbed in starting it up and pulling off down the driveway.  As I drove my body and mind began to cool off. There was nothing I hated more than territorial males. I’d learned my lesson long ago not to get caught between anyone. My phone rang in my pocket grabbing a fraction of my attention. Pulling it from my pocket, I answer and place it on speaker phone.  “Hello?” I answer.  “Genesis! Lovely, how are things going with the Goodwins? No problems I assume.” Eric’s chipper voice rang throughout the vehicle.  “It’s...fine. Is there something else you needed from me?”  “Actually, there is. I wanted to call you about the report on Tara.” I rolled my eyes, here we go.  “Okay...what about it?”  “The higher ups declined to look into it.” His voice was dejected. I knew Eric was just as annoyed with Tara as I was, considering he was usually the calm cool and collected type that was saying something. My grip on the wheel tightened, I swear.  “Does she know anything about this case?” Eric typed away on his computer through the line.  “No, looks like she is out in Massachusetts dealing with a dover demon with her new team. Those things are tricky to catch so she should be occupied for a while.” I let out a sigh of relief, that was one less thing I had to worry about.  “Great. Also, have there been any more reports on missing girls or found bodies? I’m actually on my way to the hospital to check the previous bodies.” Eric went silent as the clicking of his keyboard leaked through the speaker.  “No, nothing that would be related to our case at least. Let me know what you find and I’ll try to piece it together.” I agreed, said my goodbyes, and hung up the phone just as I pulled into the hospital parking lot. I checked my bag for my glamour spells and evidence kit. Once satisfied, I climbed out and shut the door and locked it.  The hospital reeked of medical supplies, I scrunched my nose at the smell. The halls were busy as people moved patients and family members around. I made my way towards the map of the hospital quickly locating the morgue. Taking off in that direction I slipped my invisibility potion out of my bag and took a big sip. The tart flavor coated my tongue making me cringe.  Dipping into a room I make sure it’s clear just as my body begins to fade until I’m barely seen by the human eye. Coming out of the room I navigate my way down to the morgue. Voices caught my attention just as I phased through the door.  “It’s a shame really.” One of the men said.  “These poor girls were bled out.” Another added.  “I heard that there’s some crazed serial killer going around and kidnapping teenage girls. They take them, r**e them, then bleed them to death.” Another replied with enthusiasm.  “You’re a sick f**k you know that, Chuck.” The first man grimaced. The other man, Chuck, waved his hands at them.  “I’m telling you man! There is something weird going on around here.”  “Other than you feeding into the rumors?” The first responded.  “I do not!” Chuck argued.  “Sure you don’t. You just gossip about the new stiletto heels that’s being released this week.” The first teased as he went back to moving around bodies. I moved swiftly, never standing too close to any of the men. I located the three bodies that had turned up: Tiffany, Alexis, and Megan.  “I have an appreciation for fashion, don't be too jealous.” Chuck smirked. The men chuckled and resumed working on cleaning up the bodies.  “Lunch time, boys.” One of the men said as they discarded their medical attire and exited the room. Once I was sure they were gone I pulled open each of the storage units that contained the young girls bodies. Each one had a large chunk missing from their necks. Muscle and bone was exposed and pale from the lack of blood. I cringed back, these poor girls. Swallowing the bile that made its home at the back of my throat I got to work taking samples of the torn flesh and swabbing the inside of their mouths.  Once satisfied I started on my last task before I had to leave, I had already been here for far too long. I set my evidence kit on the stretchers and ruffled through my bag. Finding what I was looking for I pull the vial full of a sparkling white powder. I sprinkle small amounts on each of the girls necks where they were missing skin. The powder sparkled then once turned red, one turned yellow, and one turned black. Gathering my supplies I push the girls and place everything back to where it originally was. I take another sip of my invisibility spell before making a mad dash out of the morgue, through the hospital halls, and out to my jeep.  I needed to get these samples over to Eric asap, he’ll know what we’re looking at. As I drove my mind drifted back to this morning. Alexander’s warm body, the way he smelt of salt water and spice, the way his lips felt against mine. While I wasn’t thrilled that  was my first kiss, I can’t say I didn’t hate it. I’ll probably have to call Baylee later and ask her about this mate stuff. She’s the only one I trust to get this information from considering her and Braxton are already mated.  I pull into the driveway and park, my shoulder sagging with exhaustion. The downside to those invisibility potions were extreme fatigue, I really need to find a new spell for it. Climbing out, I grab my bag and head inside. My hand lands on the door handle only for it to be yanked open. I stumble forward into a pair of thick arms. I glance up to see a frowning Cedric. His green eyes lightened as if he was worried something had happened to me. Alexander stood to the side with his arms crossed. I pry myself out of Cedric’s hold and make my way down into the cellar not wanting any arguing at the moment.  My head throbs as Cedric tries to peek into my mind. Groaning, I shut him out with another layer of walls. Once downstairs, I pull out all of my evidence and load it into the transporter. I type in the coordinates to Eric’s transporter and hit send, the contents sizzle and disperse as they begin their journey to him.
