Chapter Two

Genesis "One coffee and Breakfast platter." I smiled at the waitress and thanked her for my food as she set it down in front of me. After dealing with those redcaps I had developed an appetite. I decided to get to the town early in hopes of having some free time to explore and get some extra paperwork done.  Hanover, Pennsylvania, was a quiet town. the houses were scattered throughout it, with a small neighborhood here and there. There was also the occasional store placed throughout the area, some clustered together, while others were spread out. This particular diner happened to be rather busy this morning. I was more than aware of the people staring at me, my hair and eyes stuck out like a sore thumb. My phone buzzed on the table catching my attention. My superiors name flashed on the screen and I quickly picked it up. "Hello?" I answered, taking a sip of my coffee.  "Good Afternoon Ms. White, how are you today?" "I’m currently enjoying my breakfast, I take it that you have more information on a case for me?" Eric chuckled on his end of the line.  "I’m glad to hear that you are taking things seriously, as expected of our top agent. I also received word that Tara showed up yesterday," I could practically hear that cocky smirk on his face, he knew how much trouble Tara caused and more often would ignore it. "Word travels fast I see. Are you going to do something about her, or will I have to take things into my own hands?" Eric made a grunting noise before answering.  "The HR department is handling it, just give them some time to build the case." I chuckled dryly at his answer, typical. Problem agents rarely got the discipline that was required. Agents like Tana only ever got a slap on the wrist and sent on their way. "Other than that, what can I help you with?" I asked with a posh accent as I took a bite of my pancakes. The sweet fluffy flavor spread over my taste buds and I hummed in satisfaction. "You've been assigned partners." I stopped chewing, my mind racing and trying to put the words together correctly.  "Partners? For what? S.I.A knows darn well that I will and have been just fine without a partner all this time. Why are they assigning one now? You and I both know that I'm more than capable of taking care of myself." I whisper yelled into my phone. I've been working on my own for the past two years. I joined S.I.A when I first turned eighteen after being fed up with crappy restaurant jobs and the barely there pay that came with them. After I turned eighteen I trained with Eric, who at the time was the U.S. Top agent in the entire company. So you can say that I've learned from the best.  "Listen, it wasn't my choice. Lately, the mythologicals have been showing more resistance and becoming increasingly aggressive. Face it, Genesis, it's just not that safe to be on your own anymore. You're not the only one getting a partner anyway, if it makes you feel any better Tara was assigned a partner as well. I'm sure Baylee has told you of their recent addition as well." I sighed, taking another sip of coffee to calm my nerves.  "Alright, so when am I supposed to meet them?" I sighed, pushing my food away from me. There goes my appetite.  "They should be arriving soon, I gave them your current location," Eric stated. "I'm right here princess." A thick British accent came from beside me. I looked to my left to see two tall men one towering over the other. One smiled at me, his hair a beautiful golden blonde that matched his lightly tan skin. His eyes were ocean blue eyes and defined features that made him stand out in this crowd of average people. He's tall and well built under the royal blue suit that made him look like actual royalty. The other was his complete opposite: He was tall and muscular with wide broad shoulders. He looked like one of those Men in Black with the all-black suit he wore. He looked stern with his bushy eyebrows and light stubble on his chin. His features were striking, his hair pitch black and smoothed back lightly with an undercut. His eyes were a stunning green making me feel as if I was staring straight into the forest. They're attractive, a mouth-watering attractive. "I'll call you back Eric." Laughter echoed from the line before I ended the call. Shoving my phone into my pocket and turning my complete attention to the men.  "Who do I owe the honors to?" The golden blonde smiled his eyes glowing brightly, taking my hand and placing a gentle kiss on the back of it. Intense sparks ignited my skin at the contact, retracting my hand from his grasp. I rub my palms together feeling uneasy at the unknown feeling. His lips curled up into a sweet smile as he looked me over, something flashing in his eye that I couldn't quite identify.  "Genesis White." I smiled sweetly observing the blond carefully, this guy is way too charming that could get a girl like me in trouble. "Alexander Goodwin, but you, my dear may call me Alex, and this-" He nodded at the stern-looking bodyguard behind him. "Is my bodyguard, and close friend, Cedric Goodwin." Cedric looked at me with those stunning green eyes of his, my heart fluttering in my chest. Our eyes locked for a second, what felt like an eternity only lasted a second and It felt like he had touched my soul as warmth spread within me. I rubbed my hands together dismissing the unfamiliar feeling. My skin heated and tingled under their gazes as I averted my eyes from Cedric’s intimidating stare. The corners of his mouth twitched as he looked away from me, but only for a second. I looked into his eyes to see amusement swimming around in them, a hint of mischief showing through his stone-like expression. "Wait, If he's your bodyguard and 'close friend,' why does he have the same last name as you?" I asked genuinely confused.  "Ah, that's because my family found him when he was young so it was easier just to give him our last name. We're basically more family than anything." "So, you're my new partners?" Alexander shook his head at my question. "That's correct. Two for the price of one." He beamed.  "They told me I would be getting partners but I wasn't aware you would be related." Cedric and Alexander exchanged a look as if having a mental conversation with each other, turning back to me he smiled. "Corporate orders princess. Now should we look over the case details?" Alexander asked as he took a seat next to me leaving Cedric standing alone. I sighed pushing my half-eaten food to the side and pulling the case file out of my bag. Usually, I had my laptop, but today I had decided to leave it in my truck since I was on my way to the company cabin. Case #901 Assigned to: Genesis White, Alexander Goodwin, Cedric Goodwin Location: Hanover Pennsylvania Issue Reports: 'There has been increasing disappearances of teenage girls. Multiple bodies have been discovered around the edge of town all-around a week after they had gone missing. Each recovered body has had similar puncture wounds on its necks. The bodies upon inspection seemed to be drained of blood, many seeming to have died 5 hours before discovery. There have also been reports of mangled bodies not far from original locations.' Suspected Cryptic: Vampire A most recent report filed: Missing Name: Lara S.  Age: 16 Hair color: Brown Height: 5'2 Weight: 145lbs Last seen: XX/XX/XXXX at the local mall "Vampires?" Alexander questioned as he gazed over the case. I've always hated cases with vampires. They're so difficult to kill, considering their history with the agency they weren’t the easiest to work with either. I groaned running my hands through my hair. It's not that I fear them, well maybe a little, but I just hate dealing with them. They always get that creepy glint in their eyes when they see me, it's as if they automatically know that I’m a thunderbird. For some reason, my blood was extra potent compared to others of my kind. It was often sought after to the point thunderbirds started disappearing from existence.  "Everything alright love?" Alex asked, glancing at me from the file. "Yeah..." I laughed nervously. "You don't look like it, you've pretty much gone pale." Cedric sighed, catching my attention. I glared at him, squinting my eyes in suspicion.  "It's the Vamps. They typically go after humans, but her-" Cedric looked at me with a blank expression. I glared at him, sending out my will to keep his mouth shut. "Drinking her blood is like taking drugs for them."  He knows! I forced my way into his mind breaking through his barriers catching him off guard. “Keep your mouth shut!" I growled at him. "I was wondering when you'd enter my mind. I'm a little disappointed you didn't realize earlier. I thought thunderbirds had the superior senses?" "I didn't have a reason to until now." I ground out in anger. Cedric’s deep chuckle reverberated in his mind. "How did you find out?" I pressed. I knew my scent was masked, I always had my scent masked. "Your eyes, when you looked at me they flashed purple. A color only associated with thunderbirds. I'll admit you smell completely human, even with all the normies running around in this place." I rolled my eyes internally. "Keep your mouth shut!" I seethed. "Why can't Alexander know? If he knows we can protect you better. I'll admit, his serpent has a very weak sense of smell." "Thunderbirds are often thought of as disappearing from existence. The last time they tried to partner me with someone, he tried everything he could to get me taken off of the field after he found out. I'd rather Alexander stay in the dark for now. I don't need any of that getting in the way of my missions-" "OUR Missions, sweetheart." He interrupted. "He'll figure it out eventually, He figured out that I'm a gargoyle after knowing me for only a week." "You're a gargoyle?" I was baffled, gargoyles were not as common as they used to be. A couple of years ago a large group of them were wiped out when they were attacked by a group of hippocampuses. "Surprise! And you, éan leanbh, are my mate."  Fingers snapped in front of me, pulling my attention away from Cedric's mind. Alexander looked at me with concern.  "Are you alright?" I nodded. "Yeah, just Peachy." After finishing breakfast and getting to know each other better, I realized that Alexander wasn't all that bad. Cedric was still giving me weird looks, he pressed every now and then with the attempt to get into my mind but I blocked him out. I couldn't be his mate...right? Although my body was responding to him, I've never known thunderbirds to have mates. Then again I didn’t know much about mates, I was always traveling and never stayed in one area for too long.  "If you're both from the UK, why were you assigned to Eric’s U.S. team?" I asked as we stood outside around my Jeep. They had come in a Jeep as well, it was the company's preferred vehicle after all.  "We have been working in the States for some time now, we switched with the U.S. team that was going to work in this area," Alexander explained as he removed his jacket. Cedric had done the same some time ago, and I had to admit their muscles were going to be a distraction for me. "We worked in the UK for a bit and we traveled around the world as well, but then the higher-ups told us they were bringing us here and that we would be getting a new partner. I'm glad we came, we get to work with a beauty such as yourself." Alexander flirted, taking my hand and pressing a kiss to the back of it. Once again those sparks ignited and rolled throughout my body, I stiffened holding my body still to prevent my reaction from being noticed. I rolled my eyes letting out a light laugh. "Well I hate to break it to you, but charming me isn't going to get you far." I smiled sweetly up at him. These guys were huge, I was at most 5'6 but they had a good seven inches on me.  "I take my job seriously. I do not tolerate slip-ups." I started crossing my arms over my chest. Cedric watched me with a close eye, his gaze warming my body.  "So do we, oh and on that thought...what type are you? SIA is usually made up of supernaturals, but you smell completely human." Alexander asked, eyeing me in a similar way his companion was. "I'm human," I replied instantly. "Hmm, odd. You just be that part of that small group of humans. I'm a Sea serpent or Leviathan as some like to call me." Alex grinned.  "Cedric is a gargoyle. I would explain some of his abilities but it’ll be much easier if he just shows you later." Alexander explained. I nodded, the only thing my senses lacked was the ability to identify what species someone was within the supernatural community.  "Okay, why don't we head over to the cabin, it should be set up by now." Alexander and Cedric climbed into their Jeep while I climbed into my own. Setting up the GPS I led us to our home for the next few weeks.
