I really don’t understand Asher Ashwood’s personality. He’s my brother, but his mood changes so fast. One minute he wanted to kill Alex, and the next he was asking Alex to treat him better. Seriously? Why is my little brother like this?

“Brother-in-law, you should be happy to have her. You know she’s the gol—”

Is he crazy? This Asher…

“Shut up, Asher. Go take a bath. Idiot.”

I cut him off before he could finish. I couldn’t let them know about me yet.

“Why? He’s my mate, right?” Asher frowned at me.

I knew Alex was my mate and I trusted him, but I still couldn’t risk them finding out. What if they killed him too? I didn’t want that to happen because of me.

“Asher, go now.”

He finally walked into Alex’s bathroom. I looked at Alex and found him watching me with curious eyes. Urgh.

“Alex…”

I went over to him. His eyes immediately turned soft.

“Mmm?”

He gently stroked my face and fixed the shirt I was wearing. He was so caring. I was already falling for this man.

“Are you busy?” I asked, looking up at his handsome face. He really was gorgeous.

“Yeah,” he said with a small smile.

“Then what should I do while you’re gone?”

I had no idea how to spend the time without him.

“You don’t have to do anything. Just stay in this room. Don’t go out and don’t open the door for anyone.”

He sighed. Did I really have to stay locked in here?

“What time will you be back?”

“Around seven.”

So I had to wait until seven. s**t. I hated that. I had only met him yesterday, but I already didn’t want to be away from him.

“Mm… okay.”

I nodded. I didn’t want to bother him or make him think I was a burden. Then Alex wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me close.

“Wait for me. I’ll have someone bring you food.”

He kissed my forehead. I hugged him back and rested my head against his chest.

“Wow… lovebirds.”

Asher’s annoying voice interrupted us. I looked over and saw he was only wearing a towel. I almost laughed.

“Brother-in-law, where are you going?” Asher asked as he walked up to Alex.

I stepped back so they could talk. Kelvin was still standing by the door. He had been there the whole time. He seemed like a gentle man, and he had a small smile as he watched Alex and my brother.

“Training,” Alex answered.

“Take me with you.”

My body turned toward Asher on its own.

“No. Are you crazy, Asher?”

Did he think we were still at home? We didn’t even know this place properly.

“We should train more, Nova. You especially need to train harder than any of us.”

He was right, but I was still scared.

“Will you take me?” Asher asked Alex again.

Alex looked at me first, then nodded.

“Kelvin, get him some clothes.”

Kelvin told Asher to follow him.

“Stay safe, Nova,” Asher said before he left with Kelvin.

I sighed and looked back at Alex.

“Nova… do you have something you want to tell me?” he asked suddenly as he came closer.

I bit my bottom lip and looked down.

“Mmm?”

He stepped even closer. His scent wrapped around me, and my wolf immediately spoke up.

‘Kiss him. I want to feel him, Nova.’

Her needy side was back.

“Look at me.”

I slowly raised my eyes. His green ones were staring at me with a complicated expression.

“I do… but I need time,” I finally said.

Alex nodded. Then he leaned in and kissed me. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him back. He lifted me up, carried me to the bed, and sat down with me on his lap. He pulled me tight against him. I wrapped my legs around his waist and ran my hands over his strong shoulders and back. The soft kiss quickly turned heated. He sucked on my tongue while his hands moved all over my body. Soft moans slipped out of me.

“Mmm… Alex… ahh…”

He gently bit my tongue. I was already so wet for him. I wanted more. Alex lay back on the bed, pulling me on top of him. His hands grabbed my butt and squeezed hard. I could feel how hard he was against me. Then he flipped us over so I was under him and his hands found my breasts.

The pleasure was almost too much. He pulled the shirt off completely, leaving me naked. I felt suddenly shy—I had never been like this in front of anyone—so I quickly grabbed the blanket and covered myself. Alex smirked at that.

“Shy?” he asked while unbuttoning his own shirt.

I stared at his muscular body and wanted to kiss every inch of it, but I looked away instead. He lay back over me and pulled the blanket away. His strong chest pressed against my breasts as he started kissing me again. I kissed him back just as eagerly.

“Your highness, the king wants to meet you.”

Someone knocked on the door and spoke. King? Your highness? Was he a prince? Or something else? I looked at Alex. He stopped kissing me, but our lips were still connected by a thin string of saliva. Both of us were breathing hard.

“Alex… you—”

Before I could finish, he got off me. The look on his face was scary. Real fear shot through me. Then his eyes dropped to my body and his jaw tightened. I quickly pulled the blanket over myself again.

“Stay the f**k away from me, Nova. Don’t let me see your filthy body again.”

My heart stopped. My vision blurred as I stared at his blank face. The gentle look he always had for me was gone. It had been replaced by disgust and something else I couldn’t name. My wolf cried out in pain.

“Alex… why?”

I tried to hold the tears back, but they fell anyway. My chest hurt so much I pressed a hand against it, clutching the blanket. It hurt more than I could stand. When I looked up, Alex was already putting his shirt back on. He glanced at me one more time. Fear filled his eyes again. What was wrong with him? Why did he keep doing this? I still couldn’t read him at all.
