Alex
“Stay the f**k away from me, Nova… Don’t let me see your filthy body again.”
Nova stared at me with pure disbelief. Tears filled her eyes. My heart twisted painfully just looking at her.
‘Bastard… You’re hurting our precious mate. She’s ours to protect and love, not to hurt,’ my wolf growled, his voice full of fury and pain.
I forced myself to look away from her tear-filled eyes. She was so innocent and honest. How could I say something that cruel to her? I was a complete bastard. f**k.
Before she could read anything in my face, I walked out and locked the door behind me. My mind stayed full of her—her beauty, her naked body, everything we had just done. Those soft moans of hers had stripped away every bit of control I had. She was driving me insane. That was the only clear thought left in my head.
I knocked on the door to my father’s study. No one answered, so I stepped inside. My father sat in his leather chair behind the big desk. My mother was on his lap, both of them moving together. f**k. Were they seriously having s*x right now?
I looked at my mother. She was half-naked, her face buried against his neck. She was still the greatest beauty in the kingdom. No one could match her. My father was still ridiculously handsome even in his forties. His body and aura hadn’t changed much since I was a kid. But my mother had never been a happy woman. She loved us, yet I always knew she wasn’t happy with him.
I remembered a conversation I overheard when I was fourteen.
“I hate you, Easton. You’re a beast. You killed him, and I will only love him until I die,” my mother had cried.
“Elara. He’s dead. You belong to me, and you will only love me,” my father had answered in an angry voice.
Then came the sound of clothes tearing and my mother’s soft cries mixed with moans. I had run away as fast as I could. I didn’t want to hear any more.
“Father, I’ll come back later,” I said now, turning to leave.
“Alex, wait.”
I stopped but didn’t look back. They needed a moment to fix themselves.
“I called you here because tonight you need to meet Camille and have a meal with her.”
I turned around quickly. My father stared at me with completely empty eyes.
“Father, actually… I…”
I wanted to say I had other work, but those emotionless eyes stopped me. I simply nodded. My mother stood beside him now, watching me with a sad, worried expression. She sighed quietly.
“I’ll take my leave,” I said, and walked out.
What the hell was I supposed to do now? How was I supposed to sit with another woman while my own mate was waiting in my room? I let out a long breath and went to find Ivy.
Ivy was the most trusted person on my side. She was an innocent girl with a kind heart. I knew she would take good care of Nova.
I found her and explained the situation. She looked so happy when she heard she would be looking after her princess. Ivy was still a little scared of me, but she was loyal. She had been grateful to me ever since I rescued her from rogues when she was just a kid. After that day she had sworn she would do anything for me.
Once that was settled, I went to training with Kelvin and Nova’s brother, Asher. I still couldn’t believe how strong that kid was. He was only a teenager, yet his power was way beyond normal. There was clearly something special about their family, but I didn’t want to force them to tell me.
After a long, tiring day all I wanted was to go home and hold my woman while we slept. Then I remembered what my father had ordered. s**t. I still had to have dinner with that Camille.
“Alex.”
A soft, sweet voice came from behind me. Instantly I felt a little calmer. I turned and saw my little sister, Elena. She was giggling and smiling at me. She was twenty and had inherited our mother’s looks—cute and pretty.
“What are you doing here, little lady?” I asked.
Her smile faded. I walked over and hugged her.
“What’s wrong, Eli?”
She looked up at me. “Father wants you to marry that woman, right?”
My heart ached. All I could think about was Nova and how she would feel if she found out.
“Brother, I don’t like her. Please don’t marry her. She’s not worthy of being the future queen.”
Elena started crying and hugged me tighter. I didn’t like Camille either. I didn’t want to marry her.
“I can’t ignore Father’s orders, Elena. I don’t have a choice.”
I kissed the top of her head. She suddenly pushed me away, frowning.
“Then what about her, Alex? Are you going to forsake her?”
Anger filled her eyes. Her? Who was she talking about?
“What do you mean, Eli?”
“The pretty lady in your room. I know she’s your mate.”
My whole body froze. How did she know about Nova?
“Elena… how? Please don’t… don’t tell anyone.”
My eyes actually grew moist from pure fear. It was the first time in a long while.
“I won’t tell anyone. I just want you to stay with her. I don’t like the woman Father chose for you. She’s a bitch.”
I let out a heavy breath. I could trust Elena. She had three brothers, but she loved me the most.
“Keep this a secret, Eli. I’ll figure something out.”
Sh
e nodded and walked away. I watched her leave.
Fuck my life.
What was I supposed to do now?
