Chapter 2

Ruby Arriving at the pack hospital, I managed to shift back into my human form but my body was trembling. My lips quivered and my claws dug deep into my palm, my knuckles white. My vision was blurred and the voices in my ears faded out, I couldn’t hear anything, all I wanted was to see Dave. Once stable, I darted into the clinic, needing no directions as I used his scent to locate the private ward he was taken to. “Dave…” I was still speaking when the doctor rushed out. “Luna… We’ve been trying to call and mindlink the alpha for the past three hours, Dave’s condition is very critical, we need a pure bred alpha blood... If we don’t get a solution in the next one hour, he’s not going to make it.” She announced and my heart began to pound. My stomach churched as I broke out in cold sweat. “Please… Please save Dave, he’s everything I’ve got, please. I’m willing to give everything, whatever it’ll cost.” I pleaded, breathing heavily as I held onto her tightly. She stared at me with great sadness, shaking her head slowly. “I’m sorry Luna but this isn’t what money can solve, we just need to get the alpha.” She announced and I nodded. “I’ll call him… I’ll give him a call now!” I replied frantically as I began digging through my bag for my phone, my hands were trembling and sweaty, making it difficult for me to find my phone easily. I emptied my bag on the floor, scattering my lipgloss, office letters and purse as I grabbed my phone. I dialed Adam’s number, pacing around with my hands in my hair while his phone rang. He didn’t pick the first three calls but I wasn’t about to give up, my wolf was in chaos and she couldn’t create a mindlink now. He finally answered the call and tears of relief began to flow but to my horror, it was April. “Why the f**k are you calling? Are you dumb? Don’t you get it that Adam is my dog for today and you’ll have to wait until I’m done with him before you’ll have him back?” “April.” My voice was low, I was exhausted but all that mattered presently was Dave’s recovery. “Please, give the phone to Adam, it’s urgent, it’s a matter of life and death.” “You can go to hell for all I care, if you want to have time with your husband then it’s best he keeps his d**k in his pants!” She snapped and before I could protest, she hung up. The doctor stared at me with pity, my chest was rising and falling swiftly. I can put up with anything, Adam’s infidelities, the abuse, work and every other obstacle life had but not Dave’s health. Goddess please help me… There’s no way we can make it, even with flight it’ll take hours before I can get hold of any other alpha. “I need to head back to the house… it’s the only way I can save my son…” “Not in this condition.” A man announced as he walked through the door and I scoffed while my wolf stirred. “Who the hell are you? My son is at the verge of death and goddess knows I’ll f*****g turn this world upside down if that’s the only way to save him!” I yelled, trying to walk past the man but to my dismay, he grabbed my arms, holding me in place. “Don’t f*****g touch me!” “It’s astounding that you do not recognize your grand alpha and son’s savior, isn’t that what ingrates do?” He asked and I paused, lifting my head up slowly. My gaze was blurred from tears but from the fragments I could see, he indeed was the powerful, dangerous grand alpha. “Wh… How… Grand alpha…” I stammered, falling to my knees immediately with my head bowed. “I’m sorry Luna, I didn’t get the chance to inform you, the Grand Alpha pulled Dave out of the car before it exploded and brought him here.” The doctor explained. “Thank you so much… words cannot express my gratitude… Please, please save my son, your blood can help him, I’m willing to work for you, even if I don’t get paid, as long as you save Dave.” I pleaded, holding onto his feet, my hair all over my face. “I’m going to save him but I’ve got a better proposition in mind.” He announced and I nodded hastily. “Yes, anything…” “You’re a bright mind who can make sand become the next best selling item, you’ve got no business wasting your years with that bastard, I’m willing to save him, have the best surgeons in the world attend to him in a second all I want in return is you.” “What?” The words rolled out of my mouth. He squatted to my level, pulling me up while the suspense was killing. “I need you to be my wife for a year, as the grand alpha, I’ve exhausted all my years as a bachelor and I need a wife urgently, you’re more than a wife, you’re the creative mind that’s holding this pack, I’ve studied this pack and how it rose in the past 7 years, this place is a dump without you..” He continued and I began to laugh hysterically like I had gone crazy. “That’s impossible, I’m married, I have a mate and a bond, there’s no way I can be your wife when I have a child already…” I replied and he scoffed. “We both know that bastard is the furthest thing from a husband and what you have is no marriage, I’ll give you a few minutes to think about it, remember, the time is ticking.” He remained as he glanced at his watch. I was torn, my stomach churned and so many thoughts filled my head. But this is the only way to save Dave, even if I decide to head back home now, it’ll be too late. “My blood has been collected already and my surgeon is already on ground to carry out the operation, you’ve got 24 hours to finalize your divorce, he’s in safe hands, you’ve got nothing to worry about.” With those words, he walked out. Almost immediately three doctors rushed inside, taking Dave’s file while he was wheeled into the ICU by the nurses. My little boy was covered in blood and bruises, his innocent face was so pale, like his soul was at the verge of disappearing. While my little boy fought for his life, the man he adored was exactly where he had always been when I needed him most…in another woman’s arms.
