Chapter 3

Ruby I was outside the ward, pacing around and muttering prayers to the goddess. I was glancing at the blurred glass door, wishing I could see him. “Where is my son!” Adam announced as he rushed into the ward. Staring at him, so much rage bubbled inside of me. He reeked of April, the musky scent of their sweats was all over him, he was glowing, the after glow that only multiple ejaculations could give. It made my insides crawl, goddess knew I wanted to puke all over his face. My wolf reared forward and before I could stop myself, I found myself slapping him hard across the cheeks. “Really, Adam! Your son has been in this hospital for more than four hours! He’s at the brink of death and while everyone tried calling you, you were buried in the arms of another woman! You’re so unfit to be called his father! I regret the day the goddess made us mates!” I thundered, breathing heavily. His pupils dilated as he stared at me with clenched jaws, one hand fisted while the other hand was raised as he tried to hit me. “Ruby!” He snarled. “Do it! Go ahead and do it, show the world the alpha whose mess I’ve always cleaned up and hidden! Show them the monster you are! I don’t f*****g care anymore!” I retorted. He squeezed his fingers, averting his gaze as he tried to contain his rage. “You know how busy I am, why the f**k didn’t you try harder! Why didn’t you get the beta!” He barked, trying to gaslight me into believing that after he was caught, he headed straight to the company and I scoffed, shaking my head slowly. “You’ll always be a liar, Adam, you’ll never change. We both know you were at home, it doesn’t matter anymore, I’m done, Adam. I’m tired of your bullshit and I can no longer be with an incompetent father and husband! I want a divorce, my lawyers are working on that and I want it signed before the end of today!” He burst into laughter, his annoying voice filling the empty passage, goddess knew I hated it, I wanted to wipe away the smile forever. “That’s impossible, Ruby. You can’t leave me, have you forgotten that you’re nothing but an orphan that was trained and nurtured by this pack? You’ve got nowhere to go, you’ll never survive without me, I’ll make your life a living hell, I’ll make sure no one ever works with you and the business knowledge you’re so proud of, I’ll reduce it to f*****g dust! Nobody will ever want you, you have no value, not after being used and dumped by me.” He whispered with a hideous smirk. I had never seen this side of him, it felt like I was talking to a new person entirely, even though there had been cases of abuse over our seven years of marriage, it never prepared me for this monster before my eyes. “You think you can be anything? I’ll kick you out of the company if you try to leave me, I’ll take Dave away, the one thing you treasure the most, I’ll leave you with nothing and when I’m done, I’ll banish you and make you a rogue, I made you and I can crush you in a second… you’ll never recover from it because I’m your everything, you’ll never be anything without me! I’m the f*****g air you breathe…” Before he could add any other demeaning words, my hands were tingling and the words burning through me, I hit him hard across the face. Panting as I watched shock flash across his face, I wanted to do it over. Goddess I wanted to kick him, claw at him and hit him until my anger subsided. He raised his hand, this time ready to hit me and I shut my eyes, waiting for his palms to touch my cheeks. “Don’t you dare touch my Luna with those filthy hands of yours.” I heard a bass voice and peeling my eyes open, my lips quivered when I found the grand alpha holding Adam’s hand. Rain went completely still, not afraid, submitting and for the first time in my life, I understood what it meant to stand before a truly dominant Alpha. It was so swift and strange, I felt something within me stir, it was Rain along with some emotions I had no idea existed. He was so tall, that he glanced down at Adam. His dark eyes were fixated on Adam, I couldn't tell what he was thinking but if allowed to materialize, it would rain terror. His lips pressed together, he was dressed in the most casual way ever, a knicker and shirt but he gave off so much authority that I felt myself lowering while Adam did the same subconsciously. Our wolves were submitting to a higher power, one that just his presence was enough to cause ruins. “Gr… Grand alpha…” Adam stammered as he tried to pull his hand away but he held on tightly, gritting his teeth. “You shall never speak to my Luna in such a manner or else I’ll have your tongue on the wall and don’t you dare try to touch her with your filthy hand, I’ll make you armless.” His tone was dark and ruthless. He let go of Adam who staggered back, looking like a wounded goat and when he managed to get a hold of himself, he glanced at me. “Luna? This is a mistake, Alpha Theo, Ruby, what’s going on?” He asked and I glanced up at Alpha Theo, gulping down saliva. I nodded my head. “Alpha Theo is right, I guess you’re not the only one who knows how to play games, Adam. I belong to Alpha Theo now.” I replied, as my heart pounded against my chest. This realization sends chills down my spine, I just accepted a year of danger and darkness while running away from Adam. Only the goddess knew if I was making the right choice but there was no going back now. “This is a joke right? There’s no way you can be with him, I know you, Ruby. You love me, I’m the only man you can love, this is some set up…” “I guess you never truly knew me, Adam. Have the divorce papers signed and get out of my life.” I retorted and he scoffed. “I know what this is, because I made a mistake, you think running into the arms of the powerful alpha would get to me and putting up a story about wanting a divorce when you know fully well you can’t do without me…” “You’ll forever be an insufferable bastard, Adam and the only regret I have is not getting tired of your bullshit!” “That’s enough darling.” Alpha Theo whispered as he placed a hand on my shoulders and for the first time ever since everything started, I felt at ease. It felt like a warm cloth had been wrapped around me and subconsciously, I leaned back, his scent wrapped around me… dark, warm and strangely comforting. My wolf melted against the bond of his presence, and I hated how much I liked it. “There’s no need to argue with this retard, the surgeons are out.” He announced and looking up, they were walking out. Ignoring Adam, I rushed forward. “He’s fine, you can go in now.”
