After her words fell, the air went still for several seconds.
Then Adrian carefully reached out and touched the red mark on Selena's cheek, his eyes filled with undisguised concern. "If you're angry, take it out on me. I'm the one who didn't go back to save you. Why vent your anger on Selena?"
Selena gently tugged at his sleeve and said softly, "Vanessa must be upset that you stayed here with me."
Adrian's expression gradually darkened.
He took a deep breath. "Vanessa, I know you are sensitive and easily jealous. But no matter what, you should not have hit Selena. Go apologize to her now, and we will let this matter end here."
Vanessa looked at him in disbelief.
"You want me to apologize? Adrian, we lived side by side for three years. In your eyes, am I the kind of person who makes baseless accusations?"
With tears in her eyes, she stepped toward him. "You want me to apologize? That fire took away our first child. You were almost going to be a father, Adrian."
Adrian froze for a moment. Then deep disappointment surged into his eyes. "Vanessa. In order to frame Selena, you would even fabricate a child that never existed?"
He lowered his voice. "Someone who lies so easily and refuses to admit fault does not deserve to be a mother."
Vanessa suddenly stopped crying. A cold laugh escaped her lips. She turned and walked away quickly.
At a print shop near the hospital, she printed out the electronic version of the divorce agreement.
This marriage was no longer worth even a single extra second of her time.
When she reappeared at the doorway of the hospital room, a flicker of hope crossed Adrian's eyes. "Have you changed your mind?"
In response, she flung the divorce agreement against his chest.
"Sign it."
Adrian was so furious that he laughed instead, his tone as cold as iron.
"Vanessa, even throwing a tantrum has its limits. You have long been out of touch with society. Without me, survival itself will be a problem for you. Go apologize to Selena now. My money will still be at your disposal. Otherwise, starting today, all your cards will be canceled. And when you regret it and want to come back, it will not be as simple as an apology."
Vanessa closed her eyes, tears sliding down silently.
"Sign it, Adrian. Even if I starve to death, I will never spend another cent of your money."
"Fine. I want to see how many days you can last."
After signing, he called the bank in front of her, his voice indifferent. "Cancel all supplementary cards under my name."
Without the slightest hesitation, Vanessa turned and left, returning to what had once been their home, now empty and silent.
Over the next few days, she packed up all her belongings.
With her previous experience and qualifications, Vanessa quickly secured the position of deputy manager at the Camdenia Resort.
There was only one requirement. She had to pass the probation period. If there was any complaint from a guest, she would be dismissed immediately.
As soon as her health improved slightly, she flew alone to Camdenia to take up the post.
On her first day, the general manager specifically instructed her to personally receive a pair of distinguished guests.
Dressed in a crisp professional suit, she stood at the entrance of the lobby waiting.
A black Porsche Cayenne slowly came to a stop.
The car door opened, and a man and a woman stepped out, standing close together in intimate proximity.
Vanessa took a deep breath and walked forward.
When the woman turned around, her breathing stopped.
It was Selena.
