Samantha was sitting in the hospital waiting room when the police arrived. She had already called her lawyer to be present but he was not there yet. She felt shaken by their presence but decided to act confident since they were already there. Knowing how hard she had tried to stay off the radar, here she was about to be questioned by the police. She did not want anything coming up to bring her to the spotlight. The two police officers first approach the nurse at the counter before heading towards her. Samantha quickly stood up, acknowledging their presence.
“Goodmorning officers''she greeted him, and as a reply he asked “Miss Sametha Granville, right?” she nodded in response as he continued to speak. Would you mind answering a few questions? Samantha, having put on a calm outlook, obliged to their request. “Could you please give us a vivid description of what happened this morning? “ he asked. Samantha had properly calculated her words before she began, explaining“ I was on my way to meet up with an appointment this morning…“ she explained right from the time she had left her home to the time the accident took place. She left the path where she was trying to pick up her phone and then he said she was distracted by her thoughts and that before she could match on the brakes, she discovered the victim was on the floor; she even insisted that the footage from the traffic cam will prove her right. The police officer who had been taking note of what she had been saying asked her as regards to whether she had any medical issues that could have led to her being distracted. She assured them of her health and stated that the victim had approached the road out of nowhere and how the accident had happened in the twinkle of an eye. More questions were asked by the police officer before summarizing that he would get back to her if she needed to come to the station for further questioning. At that point, the doctor walked in on them, "how is the victim doing?'' the police officer asked. Samantha quickly rushed to the side of the doctor to hear vividly what he was saying.
“well she was brought here in a very bad shape but we have been able to get her to a stable condition for now”. Samantha, not being, ok with just that answer, pressed on “but Harry, would she be okay?”,,, in response to her question, he further explained, "Sammy, we are doing our best to make sure she's OK.” She seemed to have suffered a concussion due to a close head injury, and some fractures hence the loss of consciousness but we're still waiting for the x-ray and imagery test results to confirm the severity of both. We will be able to get the results in just a few hours to determine the extent of damage done, but for now we want to make sure we keep her stable. Are you both related? the other police man that had barely spoken asked. Yes, they both answered, he is my brother, she explained. Being satisfied with their explanation, the police officers asked to be kept informed on the situation before leaving the hospital to go further on their investigation. Immediately the police left, Samantha felt some sort of relief although she was not comfortable with the last question, but she reassured herself that it was okay. She felt somewhat guilty living out the part of her being distracted while trying to pick up her phone, but was still glad that there was a chance for the victim to survive, with Harry handling the case, there seemed to be a ray of hope, she thought to herself. An hour later, Samantha had to leave the hospital for her appointment with the investors. She could not afford to lose these investors now. She went to the doctor's office to inform him of her leaving and promised to be back soon. Quickly she rushed off before doctor Herry could say anything to her; she knew him well enough and was not ready for him to give her a sermon. "Bye Harry” she screamed from the hallway of the hospital as she left. Harry could not help but shake his head. He knew how determined his sister could be as regards her career. She was not the kind of person that would let anything hinder her career, but at the same time, he wondered if she understood how delicate the situation was. Knowing a life was at stake, he felt worried about the whole situation and at the same time cared so much for his sister and did not want her in harm's way. He really needed the scan result to know what next has to be done. “ She just has to survive” he whispers to himself as he picks up a file off his table to distract himself.
Since the victim was not totally out of danger, Dr Harry had to constantly check up on her. This was the second time he had checked up on the victim since she was admitted to the emergency room. After checking up on her vitals, which were stable, he couldn't help but hope that no further harm was done apart from the obvious fracture on her arm and bruises on her. Not just for her sake, but for Sami too. They had succeeded in keeping a low profile right up to this moment and he did not want anything to blow it. It would be a shame if they had to move again. Besides, this was the longest they had stayed in a place and he loved it there. He was so deep in thought that he did not notice the nurse approaching him until she spoke."Dr Harry, the results from the test and scan run are out. Could you please come with me to view the report”.
After examining the report, it was discovered that she had suffered a moderate traumatic brain injury and a severe compound fracture to her leg that required surgery to fix. He quickly asked the nurse to get the patient ready for surgery and informed the orthopedic surgeon.
