Chapter Fourteen: I Love You

Maddy’s POV:

I woke up in a bright room with machines beeping all around me. I had to keep blinking for my eyes to adjust, noticed I was in a bed with scratchy blankets and then I felt my hand being weighed down. I looked over and saw Elijah sitting in a chair next to my bed, he was holding my hand in one of his and resting his head on the other. He liked exhausted and very uncomfortable slouched like this.

I sat up a little and poked him in the cheek a few times before he began to stir.

“Tyler go away, I don’t care about pack reports right now” he started mumbling something else that I didn’t catch. I wondered how many times Tyler had been in to bug him. I poked him again and he tried batting my hand away this time.

I giggled which made him shoot straight up, I thought he was going to fall out of his chair which made me laugh harder.

“MADDY?!”

He lunged forward onto the bed covering me in kisses and tight hugs, which would of been really sweet if I wasn’t suffocating in the process.

“Hey easy now I need to breathe!” I managed to squeak out.

“Oh my Goddess, I’m sorry! Did I hurt you? I’ve just been so worried about you and you surprised me”

“Why were you worried? How long have I been out? And where exactly am I if you don’t mind me asking?”

His eyes glassed over for a second before continuing

“Love, I was worried because you were out for eight days, your family has been staying here since we found you. Jacob and everyone should be here in a few minutes”

I started to process everything he had said. Eight days?? I didn’t think I hit my head that hard, what the hell happened to me?

“As to where you are, this isn’t exactly the welcome home party I had in mind but you are in our hospital wing at the Eastern pack”

I was about to respond when my family burst in the room. My parents were the first ones to reach me, practically trampling Elijah in the process

“Oh my sweet girl, you had us so worried” my mom wrapped me up in a big hug while my dad was on the other side patting my hand.

Charlie and Jacob were quick behind them, Charlie wasted no time crawling right into the bed with me and wrapping me in a hug while Jacob sat on the end.

“If you ever worry me like that again I will kill you, you got it?” Charlie must of been a handful if my brother is threatening violence already, I know how emotional and stressful she can be. You should of seen her during her first combat training exam. “Yeah yeah, next time I’ll ask my kidnapper to nicely let me go so I don’t worry you next time”

“Works for me” he said with a big cheesy grin on his face. I looked around the room and everyone looked worn out and exhausted from everything that had happened.

Then I started wondering

“So what happened after I blacked out?”

Everyone in the room for quiet and Charlie left the bed to go stand by Jacob.

“Guys? What’s wrong?”

I peeked past my parents to see Elijah standing there, pale, looking like he was ready to vomit.

“I’m so sorry Maddy, my brother is the one who did this to you.”

My mom put her hand on his shoulder, “No one blames you dear, none of us could’ve known he was behind this”

Jacob was next to speak “We didn’t think it was safe to keep him here so close to you so he’s back home in our cells under 24/7 supervision. He’s refusing to talk to anyone but Elijah, so we don’t have all the answers or reasons why he did what he did yet but I promise you he will pay for his actions.”

I looked over at Elijah again, guilt visibly eating away at him. I doubt he left my side at all these last few days. My mom was right, this wasn’t his fault. How could he have known any of this was going to happen?

“Hey guys? Can I have a minute alone with Elijah please?”

Everyone scurried out after saying their goodbyes, finally it was just me and Elijah. He came back over and sat in the chair next to my bed, again taking my hand which sent my heart into overdrive. Oh how much I missed him and his touch, his warmth and dimples that make me melt.

“Will you come up here with me please?”

This seemed to confuse him, me wanting more physical touch between us was knew yes but after so much time apart I really needed this. I needed my mate.

He slowly made his way next to me in the bed, staring at me the whole time as if to make sure I wasn’t going to change my mind.

Once he got up here I had him pull his arm around me so I could snuggle in and take in his scent. I felt so calm and so excited all at once. Deep breath Maddy. There’s a lot to talk about.

“I don’t blame you ya know. Not once during my time away with your brother was I angry with you or blame you in any way”

“I should’ve protected you better, you’re my mate. I should of been right there by your side the minute we got out of the car. You could’ve been killed Maddy.. I wouldn’t be able to handle that. I need you” his voice started to break and he looked away from me.

“I tried to link you guys every night. I swear I did. I wanted so bad just to hear your voice. The thought of being with you again is the only reason I kept fighting. “

He slowly turned back towards me. At this point both of our eyes were watering.

“The doctor said there was warlock magic involved, that’s why we couldn’t contact each other and also why it took you so long to wake up. A warlock messing with your mind like that can sometimes be serious. We didn’t know if you were going to have problems communicating when you woke up” he caressed my cheek and gave me a half smile. “Thank the Goddess you woke up perfectly fine”

I lifted my hand to grab his, “Elijah I’m so sorry I’ve been keeping my distance from you. If I was marked already maybe this never would of happened. I don’t want to take our time together for granted ever again, I love you and I want-“

“What did you say?” He turned his full body to me, staring at me as if I grew a third eye.

“Umm I said I love you” I looked down kind of embarrassed but he grabbed my chin and pulled me into a kiss that I swore set my body on fire.

I finally felt myself give in to the mate bond and kiss him back with all the fire and intensity he had given me. My hands were wrapped in his hair as his trailed down my back.

Finally we broke apart, both breathless touching forehead to forehead.

“I love you too Madeline Grey” he said with a smile and dimples

“Now let’s get you out of here so you can see you new home shall we?”
