Chapter Nine: Fight or Flight

1407 Words
Maddy's POV:     After Elijah left we managed to pull ourselves together and stop the water works. We started laughing about how childish we must of looked as we finished packing and gathering up my bags. W made our way out of the bedroom and locked arms as we awkwardly walked down the stairs together.     When we got to the car Tyler, Jacob and Elijah all just stopped to look at us with a panicked expressions on their faces. Charlie must of noticed too because she dropped the bags and walked right up to Jacob and embraced him in a hug where I just tilted my head in confusion at Elijah. He understood though and walked towards me and took my bags and set them down and then held both my hands. I was getting nervous.     "Maddy, I was planning on telling you this once we were far away and settled but it seems like we have to change our plans around and it might get a little complicated."     I just stood there waiting for him to continue but definitely eyeballing him suspiciously.     "I'm just going to start talking and I won't sugar coat anything. You are my equal and I won't ever keep anything from you, especially when it involves your own safety. * Deep Breath* You had a visitor outside your room last night, a Rogue, don't worry he's been caught and is still being questioned but from what your brother and father have gathered so far is that the Rogue King has declared you to be his Bride. He sent the Rogue to get information on you and report back. I also feel like I need to tell you about my brother Dean, because I spotted him lurking around the grounds when I first arrived and I don't believe the two aren't somehow connected. He left my family on bad terms and I wouldn't be surprised if he was apart of this. Do you understand what I'm telling you?"     I tried to keep a blank, calm expression like my mother had told Charlie and I to do when faced with stressful situations as a Lunas. Think before you speak. So I just stood there for a moment, planning reply to be very thoughtful and Luna-like but what came out of my mouth was "You have a brother?"     Really Maddy? Some crazed Rogue King wants to make us his wolfy bride and you are focused on a hidden family member?     I mentally shrugged back at Bodhi "I think this is my way of coping"     She growled back in response "Someone is trying to take us away from our mate!"      Jacob and Charlie just laughed in the background which cut me off from Bodhi and her anger. Elijah brought my hands up to his face and kissed them, sending warm tingly sparks flying from the contact, before showing his dimply smile.     "Yes, I have a brother, an older brother. He and his mate ran off when my father decided he wasn't going to hand the pack over to him. We haven't spoken since but he does make random appearances."     "That must of been hard on you. I can't imagine not having Jacob around, I'm sorry that happened." I gave his hands a squeeze "I guess I understand everything but you haven't explained yet about our plans being changed"     This time it was Jacob who spoke, " We got word of multiple Rogue sightings on your route to the Eastern pack, we have reinforcements on the way and we are sending some men from our pack but by the time they get here it will be dark and more Rogues could of gathered by then and they could attack."     "That's where it gets complicated" Elijah now had a concerned look in his eyes, no doubt worried about how I was handling all of this as well as my safety.      "Well, what did you have in mind boys?"  Charlie and I just exchanged a sly smile, we knew how to take care of ourselves so no matter what they had planned we could handle it.      Elijah's POV:     "Our mate is amazing!"     I couldn't argue with Novi about that. I just told Maddy she was in danger, that some feral mutt wanted her as his Bride and was sending other mutts to gain intel on her and she didn't seem phased at all. She was told Rogues were gathered along our route and she basically said bring it on.      Jacob explained the plan as pack members gathered around waiting for orders, Maddy and Charlie hung on to every word and even added insight on certain things. I was in awe of her, she surprised me everyday in how she acted or reacted to situations. My train of thought was interrupted by Alpha Grey who must of been watching me beaming over his daughter, he walked up to me smiling, "She used to sit in on meetings on how to handle to Rogue situations and when we would plan out defensive plans in case of an attack" He chuckled to himself,  "She would play out the scenarios with her stuffed animals in front of us all and show us our weak areas, her mother never approved of her being in there though, wasn't lady-like she said" We were both laughing as Maddy came up to us      "And just what are you two laughing about?" as she crossed her arms and looked at us both like we were guilty of something     I loved how intimidating she thought she was, made me laugh a little harder. "Your father was just telling how me stories of when you were little" her face went strawberry red which had me and her father almost on the floor.     "Well if you two are done goofing around we are ready" Jacob yelled from across the room.     Alpha Mason gave Maddy a big hug and told her to be careful and that he would fill her mom in on everything once we left. He didn't want to tell her in case she forbid this plan we all came up with, then came up to me and shook my hand and made me promise to look after his baby girl which I swore on my life I would.     "Boss, more Rogues are being spotted and our men are still a couple hours out"     "Tell them to push harder, this is their Luna's safety on the line. We are moving out now, we will meet them at the rendezvous point"     "On it Boss" Maddy's POV:     People started shifting around me and heading towards the front of the drive waiting for the go ahead. Charlie, Jacob, Tyler, Elijah and I would all be in the car with another SUV filled with pack members ahead of us while everyone else will be in their wolf forms. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous but I did my best not to show it.     Elijah and Tyler sat up front while the rest of us were in the back. Jacob gave the go ahead and we were off, preparing for the worst but hoping for the best. Elijah kept looking back at me like I was going to disappear into thin air, every time he did though I felt safe. He just made me feel warm and like everything was going to be okay.     I sat in the middle but even from there I could see all the movement in the tree line, they weren't even trying to hide. They wanted us to see them, see their numbers.     "I've never seen so many..." Charlie said, I just squeezed her hand for reassurance. We all just looked out the windows waiting to see if one of them would make the first move. None of us even daring to breathe. Tyler was driving and you could tell he was watching his speed and making sure to make no sudden movements.     After what seemed like forever of driving in silence, all of our heads snapped up to the sound of  loud howl in the distance. I looked at Jacob and then at Elijah who both shared the same "Oh sh#t" expression.     "That wasn't one of ours" .     In that same breath, Rogues started swarming us from every which way.
