Chapter Five: Rogue King

Elijah's POV:

    Once Maddy fell asleep it was hard to pull myself away from her. She looked so perfect as she slept, Her face calm and soft, her hair falling around her face, and while I will never tell her this, she snores like a congested bear. It was an odd feeling knowing that this creature now held my whole heart. I'd die for her in a heartbeat if I knew it would keep her safe and happy. 

    I kissed her cheek and then slowly crept out of her room. I made my way down stairs to the guest rooms, it was so late that everyone was already sleeping. I quickly texted Tyler to come to my room tomorrow before the meeting with the Alphas. I want him to send word back to the pack house for certain arrangements for Maddy like expanding our library to include medical books for her studies. I also wanted a few of the female Omegas to go out and stock her closet with any and everything that she may need but as requested no yellow scrubs. the thought her face when she told me about it again made me laugh to myself.

     I finally climbed into bed but it was hard to sleep knowing my mate was so close but so far. I don't know how I'm going to last this week being away from her like this but know this is what's best for now. I don't want to pressure her. 3:17am. Sigh, this will be a long night.

    Tyler Knocked on my door startling me awake.7:20am, great. I'm running late for my meeting.

        "Come in Tyler"

        "Hey boss, you wanted to see me?"

I started getting up and around as we spoke about the changes I wanted made to pack house before we got there.

        "I also want double security until we figure out what dean is up to, keep on Maddy's heels also. I don't want you to let her out of your sight when I'm not around."

        "I'll have it done before you guys arrive, anything else?"

        "Not as of right now but its still early in the week, let's head to the meeting and see what's going on there, after I'm meeting Maddy for breakfast"

    We enter the room and see we are the last to arrive, we greet everyone as we quickly find our seats around the large table and turn our attention towards Alpha Mason who starts to stand up, I notice next to him his beta and also his son Jacob and his beta as well. Makes sense he should be in on the meeting since he's taking over the pack at the end of the week.

        "Okay gentlemen, first order of business. Rogue wolves. We seem to be getting more and more reports of them entering our lands, we recently captured one after he attacked one of our roving soldiers. After a few hours questioning him he mentioned that his king would soon be starting a war."

    Slow mumbles started from all over the room, me and Tyler exchanged nervous looks. Alpha Mason continued,

        "While we don't know who or where this new rogue in power seems to be setting up house, we have soldiers searching the woods daily and I suggest every pack do the same just in case. We don't know the numbers this man holds and until we do we should prep for the worst"

    Alpha Jackson of the Western pack, always kind of a hot head in my opinion was the next to speak on the problem. Suggesting double round the clock security and immediate death to any unannounced visitor who steps foot on his land. While I agree with the upped security I don't think death is the best option. This rogue king may be looking for any reason to start a war and killing his men just may escalate him to do so in that instant and we need time to prepare.

     We all agreed to watch our boarders with doubled patrols and capture not kill so we could gather more information. we then moved on to other matters of business like usual. Once we finished for the morning I had Tyler go get an update on things from home and to have breakfast with Paige. I had to meet with my parents and Sophie real quick before I  headed to breakfast myself, They have a new member of the family to meet.

Maddy's POV:

        "Hey Mads!"

        "Hey come in, I'm just finishing up in here"

        "So uh, how was your night?" she said slyly.

Crap. She can smell Elijah was in here.

        "Uhhh fine, pretty quiet, nothing exciting, how about yourself?"

        "Don't wanna spill the details huh? Fine I won't push but just know that I know you had him in here. My night on the other had was amazing. Me and Jacob talked for half the night and the other half ---"

        "LALALALALALALA I don't want to hear about your mating experience with my brother, please for the love of the moon goddess herself spare me the details"

    She started howling laughing at my response, " I'm sorry Maddy, you know newly mated pairs cant help it." She smiled and me and i could tell she really was perfectly happy. There really couldn't of been a more perfect match for my brother.

        "I'm honestly ecstatic for the both of you, this pack is going to do great things with you two leading them. I'm sad I wont be here to see it"

        "You will have your own pack now mads, I'm sure you and Alpha Elijah will do an amazing job and our alliance will become stronger than ever. I still can't believe we will both be Lunas in a few days"

        "Speaking of that we should meet up with my mom at some point today to poke her brain about Luna duties and what's expected but right now I need to get down to breakfast, I'm meeting Elijah"

        "That's why you look all spiffed up" she laughed before giving me a big hug. "Maybe we could all hang out at point today, I'd love to get to know this guy as well as I can before he sweeps you away to the Eastern pack."

        "I'll mention it to him, I will see you later with mom"

    Charlie left and I gave myself a final look over before I headed downstairs. My hair was brushed out but the curls still seemed to untamable. Ugh one of these days I will have a great hair day. I finished up some makeup and slipped on some shoes before heading down.

    At first I couldn't find Elijah in all the hustle but I could definitely smell him. I followed his scent to the patio area where we had a few tables and I finally found him but he was seated with a young girl and maybe her mom? I started walking over when he caught my eye. He broke out into a huge smile and quickly filled the gap between us, he grabbed my hand and kissed my forehead before whispering in amusing tone that he was sorry. Sorry for what? I had just opened my mouth to ask him when I was attacked by the little girl into a huge hug that nearly took me down.

        "Is this her Eli?! She's so pretty!!! I finally have a sister!"

        "Uhhh?" I looked at him for some assistance but he couldn't hold his laughter in anymore.

        "I'm sorry my love, this is Sophie, she is a little more excited than what I thought she would be about me finding my mate, and then this lovely woman behind her is my mother, Olivia"

        "Sophie! Let the poor girl breathe!" His mother was absolutely beautiful. I couldn't find the words. I wasn't prepared to meet his family yet.

        "Oh so this is your sister? Well hi, your brother told me all about you yesterday at the party. It's great to finally meet you"

        "I like her mom, she can stay" Sophie said in a matter of fact tone as she walked back to her plate, gesturing me to come sit next to her.

     Okay I got this. This is fine. It's all fine. I walked over and sat down, Elijah followed to the other side of me so I was directly across from his mother.

        "I'm so happy Elijah finally found you, I was getting nervous there for a while."

        "Mother, please" Elijah blushed a little which just about made me melt in my chair.

        "Well tell me all about yourself my dear, I hear you are the Alphas daughter and that your twin brother will be named Alpha at the end of the week"

        "Umm yes ma'am, My brother Jacob and his mate Charlie, my friend will be taking over from my parents in the next few days. My parents couldn't be more excited."

        "Oh please call me Olivia, we are family now after all." She seemed genuine with her words. I turned to Elijah who was busy teasing his sister about her mouthful of food. Which made me giggle too. We all sat and talked for what seemed like forever.

     We didn't notice breakfast was over until one of the Omegas came by to take our plates. Sophie and I planned on going for a walk later to talk about "Sister things" as she called it. I could tell we would become close, it was hard not to love her immediately. His mother was also amazing, she seemed to value my opinions on things and loved that I was training to be a doctor here at home. It just felt easy and natural talking with them. I was almost sad to see them head off, I wanted to hear more about their pack and life back home, but I guess I would find out soon enough. they both hugged me and Elijah before leaving us on our own. 

    Once they were out of sight I turned to Elijah and gave him a look of death which must of come off as hilarious to him because he just laughed and swooped me up into a hug.

        "I know you are upset I put you on the spot like that but you did wonderfully my love, they simply adored you."

        "You're in the dog house, I need a heads up before meeting the family, I don't do well under pressure!"

        "You work in the hospital Maddy" He kissed the top of my head before finally putting me down.

    I absentmindedly reached for his hand, who was I kidding, I am one of those love sick she wolves. I could feel myself being more and more drawn to him. Sigh. I guess its not so bad, I stared at him for a long while as we walked around the grounds. He made me feel safe and warm, and though it hasn't been long at all I feel like I have known him my whole life. He made me happy, and he has only encouraged me with the hospital and not putting pressure on me for pups.

        "What do you have planned for your day now?" he pulled me out of my thoughts.

        "Well me and Charlie were going to head over and spend some time with my mom, get some of an idea of the role as a Luna, kind of to mentally prepare ourselves of what to come but we should be done by dinner if you didn't have any plans"

        "Maddy, I will gladly have dinner with you but I don't want you putting too much pressure on yourself to be a perfect Luna, it's a learning process and it takes time with the pack to see what kind of Luna they need."

        "I'm just nervous, what if they don't like me" I mumbled into his arm.

    He brushed some hair behind my ear and just stared at me "They have waited a long time for their Luna, they will love you my dear, I can't wait for you to meet the pack and even visit our pack hospital. Everything will be fine"

    I felt myself relaxing. Why does he make he make everything seem so easy and uncomplicated.

        "Now go meet Charlie and your mom, I will meet you for dinner, most likely with Sophie, I don't think I can keep her away now that she's met you"

    This made me smile, "I'd love for her to join us, She's so sweet and funny. But speaking of Charlie she wants to formally meet you and probably question you like crazy in attempts to get to know you before we leave."

        "Fair enough" He smiled his adorable dimply smile.

    I really didn't want to leave him but I already made plans with Charlie. Elijah was the first to say good bye and again kissed me on the forehead before walking off. I couldn't believe the sparks and warmth that radiated everywhere when we touched. I wondered if it would always be like this.
