Chapter 9

1467 Words
“Grandfather, why did you agree to it!” After Maxwell left, Darius stormed into Arthur Wayne’s office, furious. “What good does it do us if Annabella comes into power?” He had severely suppressed Annabella over the past few years and was extremely worried about potential retribution. “And you have the nerve to ask me!” Arthur Wayne slammed his palm on the desk and roared, “Look at the mess you’ve made! Darius, you really have outdone yourself! If I didn’t agree, did you want them to come to audit us?” “This…” Darius was at a loss for words. He had embezzled millions at the company, and an audit would surely land him in prison. “I thought you would stop at a little embezzlement, but no, you’re really greedy! Sitting in the general manager’s chair, do you plan to bleed the entire company dry!” Remembering Timothy’s words, Arthur Wayne’s anger flared up once again. In family businesses, a bit of embezzlement is quite normal. But Darius was insatiably greedy! “Enough! Even if she becomes the project leader, you are still the Group’s general manager. Once the project is over, she’ll be worth nothing.” After all, Arthur Wayne’s tone softened considerably for his favorite grandson. “All right then!” Darius sighed, his resentment toward Timothy deepening. With such a large project, if he could become the leader, embezzling nearly ten million would have been a piece of cake. But now, he could only watch helplessly as Annabella took that spot. Cutting off someone’s wealth is like killing their parents! After leaving Arthur Wayne’s office, Darius pulled out his phone: “Hello, is that Bear? Take care of someone for me!” … While some rejoice, others mourn. Even after stepping out of the Wayne Group’s front door, Annabella felt as if she were dreaming. “Timothy, how did you do it? The one in charge of the company’s finances is Darius’s own sister, Niall Wayne; she would never give you the chance to audit the accounts.” During the meeting in the boardroom, when she saw Timothy recounting Darius’s embezzlement evidence, she was incredibly shocked. Because the timing of each incident was spot on. And by looking at Arthur Wayne’s expression, it was clear that these were true. Considering Timothy never left his house, how could he be so clearly informed? “I sold my looks and seduced Niall Wayne.” Timothy cracked a smile. He obviously couldn’t admit it was Claudius Hamilton who had arranged for the investigation, right? The wealthiest man in Easton City certainly has that kind of power. “Cut the crap! Give it to me straight!” In three years of marriage, Timothy had always been honest and straightforward. Such outrageous conduct, Annabella knew, was something he would never engage in. “The truth is, Maxwell is a distant relative of mine. Since someone had to do it, it might as well benefit me,” Timothy winked and whispered, “This way, I can openly be provided for. Working is so tiring!” If it wasn’t the right time, then a lie would have to be made for now. “Fine.” Annabella felt that Timothy had changed, his entire aura had shifted. Looking at the badge of dawn on her chest, she swallowed the question on her lips. “Timothy, you loser! I must have been cursed with bad luck to marry into this family!” From afar, Veronica saw Annabella weighed down by worries and assumed her daughter had faced opposition at the board meeting again. So, naturally, she vented her frustration on Timothy. For three years, Timothy had always been the one to take the heat. “Enough, enough! It’s always the same whenever there’s a meeting. I’m used to it!” Wilbur Wayne alighted from his car too, speaking with displeasure, “Hey Timothy, from now on, don’t come to these kinds of events!” “Dad, Mom, what are you talking about? The representative today is a distant relative of Timothy.” Annabella hurried over and took the hands of her elders, “Thanks to Timothy, I could become the project leader.” “What? Project leader?” Veronica’s eyes widened in disbelief, “Am I hearing this right? My daughter, the project leader? My goodness!” “Don’t joke around!” Wilbur Wayne found it hard to believe as well. “It’s true! Timothy really helped out a lot, so be nicer to him from now on!” Annabella whispered. “What help could that loser possibly provide?! It’s my daughter who excels! Let me tell you, find a time to get a divorce, don’t let him hold you back.” Veronica snorted coldly, pointing at Timothy, “If you have any conscience left, don’t hold back our girl’s future!” “Exactly!” Wilbur Wayne nodded in agreement, “Timothy, the two of you just aren’t suitable.” “Enough!” Annabella’s face turned ashen. If it hadn’t been for Timothy today, what relation would the project leader position have to her? Yet, her parents were so materialistic, almost falling into the trap of money. “Trinity Group is a major company, and it’s got money! Annabella, after you become the project leader, you must grab a big handful!” Veronica beamed, feeling incredibly proud inside. “That’s right, listen to your mom! Look at this Ford we have at home, see the state it’s in! This month, we’re getting a new car for the household!” Husband and wife were in sync, and Wilbur Wayne’s vanity started to inflate as well. “How can you be like this!” Annabella frowned, “Even if I do become project leader, I won’t embezzle a single cent! Get that thought out of your heads!” The entire time. Timothy stood by without uttering a word. “Let’s go home!” Veronica was somewhat angry. Everyone else was greedy for money. Why put on an act of integrity? “I’ll take Annabella to buy a used car, it’ll be more convenient for work in the future.” Timothy spoke up from the side. “No need, let’s just go home.” Annabella thought that Timothy was just speaking casually and didn’t expect him to be serious. “Let’s go, it’s inconvenient to have just one car at home.” Timothy smiled faintly. “You? What could you possibly afford? Just don’t buy a bicycle and shame the Wayne family!” Veronica rolled her eyes at them, her chubby face contorting. “If we buy one, none of you get to ride it in the future!” Annabella’s temper also flared. Her feelings for Timothy had changed long ago, and now she couldn’t stand her husband being humiliated. “The two of you?” Wilbur Wayne sneered, “If you really have the guts, then don’t ever set foot in my Ford in your life!” “Exactly, if I ride in your junk car, I’ll take your last name, Vale! Mr. Wayne, let’s go!” After Veronica finished speaking, the two hurried away in their Ford. “Timothy, that’s just the way my parents are, don’t take it to heart.” Annabella stood there, head down, explaining. Normally, she would never do this. Perhaps subconsciously, she had begun to accept her husband. “I’ve been in your family for three years, don’t I understand them by now? They’re still your parents. I won’t mind!” After finishing, Timothy took Annabella’s hand and headed toward the opposite side of the road. Annabella felt a tremor in her heart but didn’t resist. “Are we really buying a car?” She looked up at Timothy, “I still have some savings, let’s go buy one. Otherwise, you’ll definitely be ridiculed by my parents when we get back.” “No worries, I have the money to buy a used car.” Timothy smiled faintly, took her hand, and crossed the street to the parking lot opposite the Wayne Group. “Hey, isn’t that Representative Davenport’s car?” Not far away, there was a Rolls-Royce parked, the same one that Maxwell had arrived in that morning. “Wait here a moment.” Timothy let go of her hand and quickly walked towards the car. Soon, someone came down from the Rolls-Royce, exchanged a few words with him, and then the person walked away. Then. As Annabella watched in stunned silence, Timothy got into the driver’s seat and drove the car up to her. “Get in, although it’s a second-hand one, it’s not bad!” Through the window, he saw that Annabella’s gaze was stagnant, as if she had been stupefied. It’s just a Rolls-Royce, what’s the big deal?
