Finding a helper

1807 Words
Clyde is now standing at the foremost of the group. Behind him, numerous villagers can be seen standing with wooden spear and ax. In the distance, the group of monsters is fast approaching. Wild boar, horned rabbit, goblins. “To be honest, these are all just low-level monsters. However, I wonder how Clyde will react.” The groups are divided into three and clearly different reactions can be seen from their face. The first group is the village’s head group that is standing confidently behind Clyde. Although there’s some worry on their faces, they know that the hero Clyde will protect them. The second one is the village’s head rival group. He is situated behind the village’s head group and worried about a monster attack from the flank. Since Clyde is taking care of the front, the sides are a little bit defenseless. If there’s a stray monster that is coming towards their direction, their life will be in danger. The last group is the halflings, they are situated at the rear but it wasn’t the safest area. In fact, it was the most dangerous area. If the monster realizes that they couldn’t attack from the front, the probability is high for the monster to try attacking the rear by making a roundabout move. “It can’t be helped. I need to save them if I want to have the hero in my grasp.” Lance then moved with the crowd and blended in with the halflings group. However, he realized that something is amiss. Although the people are now gathering together, there is someone who doesn’t follow the group. If Lance wasn’t careful enough to spread his awareness inside the village, he might miss this person. “Should I take a look at her? But the monster is fast approaching. Well, I guess there’s nothing wrong to take a look at her first. There’s still some time before the monster arrived.” Nobody notices how Lance move, only a shadow can be seen and it was so fast. Although the origin blood on his current body is low, moving around at high speed is an easy task for him. He quickly arrived at a rundown house and when he opened the door, he quickly finds the person that he is looking for. It was actually a girl, with a dead look on her face and hands clutching on her knees. Lance didn’t spend a lot of time examining her physique as there’s nothing much to see. Malnourished face just like him and the most notable part is her long ears signifying that she comes from the half-elf. “Hey, what are you doing here?” The girl looked at him coldly before replying. “Isn’t that what I should be asking? Why are you here in my house?” “Oh, this rotten-looking mess is your house? I thought it was a pig shed. Anyway, why are you hiding here? Don’t you hear that the village is under attack from the monster? Why don’t you go with the rest of the people to survive? When the monsters attack, this place will be in a mess.” “Why do you care? It would be even better if I die.” Hearing the girl's nonchalant reply, Lance is a bit surprised. After all, he has killed a lot of people and he knows that some people are willing to do anything just to save their own life. Looking at the girl that doesn’t seem to fear death, Lance's interest is piqued. What kind of past can this girl go through to be like this? “Say, are you like this because you lost people that you love?” Lance's question seemed to hit the mark as the girl’s eye twitched a bit when he asked that. “What do you want from me?” “Why don’t you tell me more about yourself so I can know what I can offer to you?” This is completely a weird conversation; one side is asking for something but the other party seemed to have the intention to give instead of demanding. “My name is Milla. I just lost my mother when she goes out to escort the hero Clyde.” Hearing that, Lance feels a lot of emotions from Milla. It was easy since as a half-vampire, some of the vampire traits are passed down to him. A vampire could read emotions judging from the changes in someone’s heartbeat. Lance can see bitterness, regret, anguish, and a subtle hint of anger. When he notices the seed of anger on Milla’s heart, he inwardly rejoiced. Lance is planning to plot against Clyde the hero. Of course, he could do this all alone, but it would be better if there’s someone that could be his right-hand man. While he is hiding in the shadow, this person can act out in the open. After all, as a former demon king, he used to have many subordinates serving him. “Say, do you want to have your revenge and kill Clyde?” When Lance said that, Milla is shocked. What Lance said is just crazy talk. Not to mention Lance’s age and physique that is similar to her, it means that Lance lacked the power nor the influence to help her. Right now, Clyde has become the hero of the kingdom. Killing him is simpler than just saying it. Even right now, although he is protecting the villager, many villagers are willing to block a life-threatening attack for him. After all, he is the hope of humanity. It can be seen at how eager the village’s head in recruiting cannon fodder just to make sure Clyde has an audience with the king. “W-what are you talking about? If someone hears what you said, you might be the one killed by the villager instead.” “Don’t worry, nobody is around us right now. Not to mention I have a deep hatred for Clyde myself. If you are willing to help me, I can make sure that you will see Clyde suffers and have the last laugh.” Milla thinks for a while before deciding. Previously, she lived with her mother in the village. Her mother is an elf slave. Milla doesn’t even know who is her real father as from when she could remember, they have been moving from one place to another before arriving at this place. Her mother never said it but she has a suspicion that she is a bastard child of some noble. After all, it wasn’t strange for a slave to be r***d by the master and thrown away when they are pregnant. The slave owner can do anything to the slave since they are considered as their property. When they arrived at this village, her mother decided to be an herbalist. She has a little bit of knowledge regarding healing herbs as she previously worked for a noble. The precious healing herbs for the villager are only a common thing for nobles which is why she is fortunate enough to come into contact with them. It is also how she managed to barely make a living while raising Milla. That is precisely why she is chosen to accompany Clyde to pull the holy sword as if something happened, she could use her medical knowledge to perform first aid. Thinking of the people that come back from accompanying Clyde telling her how her mother passed away due to a monster attack, Milla already planned to have her revenge. Although she is still young, she isn’t stupid. How can it be only her mother that is dead? How can she not know the dirty looks those people give to her mother and their attempt to get inside her skirt? If it wasn’t for her status as the village's only herbalist, there would be a lot of people that tried to r**e her. Remembering the look of the person who relayed her the news of her mother passing away which shows zero remorse and another type of regret, how can it go unnoticed? Milla knows the people that escorted Clyde must have tried to r**e her mother since they are far from the village and it was their only chance. Looking at Lance that is standing in front of him, somehow Milla has a weird feeling that if she really asks for an act of revenge, he will help her with it. “Can you really help me have my revenge?” “Of course, I can.” “What if, what if I asked you to kill the village’s head people?” With a little bit of hesitation, Milla asked but Lance’s eerie smile, in turn, gets even bigger. “What a coincidence. I was planning to kill them earlier.” If someone else hears what Lance is saying, they might say that he is either boasting or have a screw loose from his head. But strangely enough, Milla sees confidence from Lance’s eye. “If you are really able to kill the village’s head people then I am willing to serve you for the rest of my life.” “Deal!” Of course, Lance didn’t entirely help Milla because he took pity on her. When he examined her, he found out that she actually has one of the rarest traits that could be found from elf’s descendant. That is the ability to control fire elements. As a race that is closer to nature, usually, an elf is capable of controlling wind as the most common and water as the rare one. As for an elf that could control fire, you couldn’t even find them one in a hundred years. Not to mention that the ability that they show when utilizing the fire element is almost at the level of ‘blessed by the gods’. To seal the deal, Lance used a blood oath spell that he has mastered in his previous life. It started by Lance dropping a drop of his blood into a bowl followed by Milla. After that, Lance activated the spell and as if it was alive, the blood entangles itself in the air like a pair of snakes and then it moves back to Lance’s and Milla’s body. At that moment, Milla can feel the contract that is binding them.
