~Clay~ I stayed outside longer than I should have, the chill of the night cutting through my skin and delving deeper into my bones further chilling a heart that was better left frozen. Not that I was complaining I liked it this way it was better for everyone and most especially for myself. Staying out here was easier and better than going back inside—easier than facing Amaya again or the truth she was determined to uncover. The forest was quiet, the kind of silence that crept into your bones and made you feel like you were the only person left in the world. The kind that I craved and loathed at the same time. For a brief moment, I let myself believe it. I imagined a reality where it was just me and the trees, no mate bond, no cursed legacy, no ghosts of a past I’d never asked for.
