Chapter 6 Ben found it difficult to believe his eyes when he opened them. The National Gallery and everything inside it had vanished; he was surrounded instead by thick forest. He was also about two metres above ground, perched on a thick branch of an unfamiliar tree with coarse, black bark and long, dark, coral-coloured leaves. The light from outside gave the whole tree a reddish glow, but not like in the autumn when the leaves are about to fall; it was more like the colouring of a sunset. Ben shifted awkwardly on the branch in order to climb down, but slipped and fell, landing heavily in the soft underbrush.
