Chapter 17 The divine fetus is still alive!

As Diana was clenching her fists in excitement, the sound of several figures landing behind her broke her train of thought.

Instantly, her smile disappeared, and she became cold once again.

Regaining her composure, she looked at several other superhumans who were equally shocked.

Seeing the astonishment on their faces, Diana felt a strange sense of pride and said:

"I told you not to come. Why didn't you follow orders?"

A masked female superhuman looked around, realizing the danger was probably over, and let out a sigh of relief:

"How could we let you face danger alone?"

A burly man with a dark complexion laughed and added:

"Yeah, even though you're the strongest among us, you're the youngest. Your life is more important; we have to die before you do."

Diana's expression didn't change, but she felt warmed inside and shook her head:

"Everyone's life is important."

The burly man with a dark complexion kicked a frozen head on the ground and spoke harshly:

"These damned Acolytes deserve this fate! You really deserve the title of Ice Queen, taking care of them all so swiftly."

It was clear that he harbored deep hatred for these Acolytes; after all, if their ritual had succeeded today, the casualties would have been catastrophic.

These were terrorists in the truest sense.

Hearing this, Diana shook her head and turned towards the frozen divine fetus.

"It wasn't me. When I arrived, everything was already like this."

"What?" The other superhumans gasped, quickly following Diana's steps.

"Not you? Then who? Did someone from headquarters come?"

"Could it be an unregistered superhuman?"

"Maybe someone from another organization happened to be nearby?"

"So where is he? He essentially saved many lives; we should express our gratitude!"

The superhumans chatted excitedly, their nerves relaxing after the sudden release of tension, making them more talkative.

"I don't know; I have a guess, but it needs confirmation."

"This superpower seems very similar to one of the students I'm overseeing for assessment-free admission."

As Diana spoke, she walked towards the divine fetus, placing her hand on the massive ice-covered egg.

She then closed her eyes, seemingly feeling for something intently.

Her words immediately sparked objections from the surrounding superhumans.

"You've got to be kidding. Even with an excellent superpower rating, a student couldn't face so many Acolytes alone, right?"

"That's right, even an S-rated superpower is quite fragile before it's fully developed."

"Besides, the ruthlessness of this attack doesn't seem like something a student would do."

"Speaking of which, which student do you have such high hopes for?"

"Shh." Amidst the voices around her, Diana suddenly put her index finger to her lips, signaling for silence.

Her brows furrowed, then her eyes opened wide in surprise as she looked at the divine fetus.

"The divine fetus is still alive!"

"What?!" At these words, the four superhumans around her immediately gathered, each eager to touch the frozen divine fetus.

Feeling the pulse of the special life inside.

It was true! The divine fetus was indeed still alive!

"Throughout human history, how many records are there of successfully capturing a live divine fetus?" a female superhuman asked, her voice trembling as she gently touched the ice egg.

"Including this one, there have been four!"

"A live divine fetus, it's actually a live divine fetus!"

The burly man with a dark complexion clapped his hands in excitement, saying:

"Now we have another live specimen for study!"

He then turned his attention back to Diana and said:

"Who handled this? Really not you?"

"Stopping the summoning ceremony, wiping out a team of the Acolytes, and capturing a live divine fetus—this is an immense achievement! Any reward would be well deserved!"

Diana also removed her hand and said:

"Yes, it's indeed a great feat. I don't even know how he managed to do it."

"And if I'm not mistaken, he might not even realize how significant his actions were."

Listening to Diana's cryptic words, the others were puzzled. It seemed she was quite certain about who had done this.

"Alright, stop speculating. Let's clean up the battlefield and find a way to repair the nearby cameras and other surveillance equipment."

"Once we determine who did this, they must be given the credit and rewards they deserve!"

Ding-a-ling!

As soon as Diana finished speaking, the phone of the masked woman nearby rang.

After listening for a moment, the masked woman looked up and said to everyone:

"The people at the Nama Road police station said they found two unconscious children at their doorstep, seemingly the two missing ones. They've been found!"

Diana was taken aback and quickly turned to say:

"Zoe and I will go. The rest of you clean up the battlefield and stabilize the energy of the divine fetus, preparing for its transfer."

The Zoe she mentioned was the masked woman, whose superpower has a slight healing effect, which could provide temporary treatment if the children were in critical condition.

Watching the two quickly leave, the burly man with a dark complexion scratched his head and said:

"This whole thing seems strange. Why do I feel like Diana's tone changed when she talked about that student?"

Another person chimed in, "I don't know. I still can't believe a student who hasn't even enrolled could do this, defeat so many Acolytes by himself. That would take someone at the level 4 strength. I'm only at level 3!"

The last remaining female superhuman rolled her eyes at the two men as she cleaned up the battlefield and said:

"I don't know if you noticed, but today was the first time I saw Diana smile and speak so gently."

"It was like she was a lovestruck teenager."

"Actually, when you think about it, she carries a lot of weight on her shoulders, but she's only nineteen years old. Well, at this age, it's actually time to find a boyfriend."

Upon hearing this, the three exchanged glances.

Diana and Zoe moved at an incredible speed and arrived at their destination in no time.

As soon as they arrived, they saw a woman crying uncontrollably under the yellow light in front of the police station, surrounded by police officers.

"Please, my babies, you can't have anything happen to you. If something has happened to you, how am I supposed to go on living?"

It was clear that the woman with swollen eyes had cried herself to the point of exhaustion, barely able to speak.

"Please try to calm down. Your children have lost some blood, but the bleeding has been stopped and there are no other issues. They are not in life-threatening danger. An ambulance is on its way; you mustn't worry yourself too much."

Despite these words, how could she not worry?

She clearly saw that her son and daughter's fingernails had all been pried open. Seeing the gruesome state, her heart ached as if stabbed with a knife—how much pain and despair they must have felt, they were just children.

Beside her stood a strong man, but at that moment, he hung his head low, like a child who had made a mistake, his eyes red and silent.

"How are the kids?" Diana approached and asked.

The man, seeing a superhuman, asked in a hoarse voice:

"Did you save my children?"

Diana was taken aback and before she could respond, the man's body suddenly lurched forward.

Bang!

He knelt on both knees, bowing his head so hard on the ground that blood immediately appeared on his forehead.

This man, for the sake of his children, knelt before someone likely twenty years his junior.

"Thank you! Thank you for saving my children!"

Diana looked at the man kneeling before her, quickly stepping aside, unable to accept such a bow, feeling an overwhelming sense of guilt.
