Chapter 27 I hope you can come in first in this trial!

1307 Words
Adam looked down at the device on his wrist. The effortless display by the seemingly carefree old man revealed his terrifying power. His superpower was definitely not as simple as it seemed! Seeing the kind-faced old man speak, Sissi retreated but her eyes were filled with triumph. Her goal had been achieved—she had overshadowed Diana and sown seeds of exclusion for Adam in the minds of the other students. Even if Adam was a genius, as long as Henry and the others did as she instructed inside, he wouldn't have a good showing! As Sissi stepped aside, no one else spoke up, and the trial was about to begin. Thomas and the other high-level officials shifted their gaze from Adam and Sissi and initiated the Virtual Realm. Several bald men stepped forward, hands outstretched as if performing a ritual, muttering words. Seconds later, a beam of light shot from each of their foreheads, colliding at a specific point in the air. Then, a sickly green door slowly opened, appearing before everyone. Or rather, it wasn't a door at all, but something more like a swamp; the color was repulsive. "Well, students, if there's nothing else, the trial will begin immediately," Thomas clapped his hands gently and said with a smile to all the candidates. "The time inside is synchronized with the outside, and we will be watching your every move for a total of thirty-six hours." "So if you need to use the restroom, do it now; there are plenty in the stadium, and you shouldn't have to wait in line. Of course, if you plan to go inside and relieve yourself in front of everyone, that's up to you." "Of course, as superhumans, going without food, drink, or using the restroom for thirty-six hours should not be too much of a problem for you." "Or if you suddenly have an irresistible urge to defecate and want to give up the trial and come out, that's your choice as well." Still with a Santa Claus-like face, after saying a bunch of words that sounded quite flavorful, he made a "please" gesture to everyone. The trial began immediately, without giving the students any time to prepare, very decisive. The students' faces were solemn; thirty-six hours of intense trial was undoubtedly a challenge for them. Some stepped forward directly, while others temporarily left, really going to the restroom. Everyone who stepped in had two computer screen-sized light screens jump out from behind the sickly green door at the same time, one staying in the air and the other flying to the one hundred and twenty-six staff members who matched the 126 students one by one. This light screen was a god's-eye view of the current candidate, recording what he had done. Thomas and many government officials would be watching, while the staff were responsible for recording every performance of the candidates. Points determine your ranking, but not everything; your performance, your actions, all the high-level officials have their eyes on you. During the process, Adam wasn't in a hurry to enter the Realm; he simply stood in place, observing the scene with a cool detachment. He noticed a person—Henry. In the previous controversy, several individuals had been moving around in the crowd, voicing doubts. This Henry was one of the ringleaders! Even now, he was still whispering to various people, and Adam's gaze on him slowly narrowed. Finally, as the last of the candidates entered, only Adam and a few others remained outside. Adam took off the space-superpower storage ring that Diana had given him and tossed it into the bracelet, planning to enter as well. "Adam!" Suddenly, Diana called out to him. "I hope you can come in first in this trial!" She had always been reluctant to put pressure on Adam. But this time was different! Her words immediately drew everyone's attention; no one expected her, who was usually reserved, to suddenly say such a thing. The trial was filled with too many variables; even in the past, no one with exceptional talent would dare to claim they would be first, as luck played a significant role. At that moment, Strengthquaker, Thomas Freud, and other students and high-level representatives from various organizations turned to look at Adam, curious about how this young man would respond. "Oh, we'll see," Adam indifferently replied, showing no particular reaction before walking in. But at the last moment, he stopped, turned to Diana, and gave her a teasing smile. "I was just kidding, mission guaranteed completed!" With that, he stepped in and entered the Realm. Now that everyone had entered, the trial officially began. Thomas sat down, leaned back, and said with a chuckle: "Hahaha, everyone, let's see if any of our candidates this time have caught your eye." The Strengthquaker, Norman, didn't sit down. He crossed his arms over his chest and casually selected one screen from among the 126, enlarging it and placing it overhead. This was the privilege of the trial judges; they could choose candidates they were interested in and enlarge the view for closer observation. The person on the screen—was Adam! "Promise to take first place? Alright, I like confident people, but a man must keep his word! Let's see how this young man performs and why Ice Queen is so concerned about him!" At the end, the nearly two-meter-tall giant didn't forget to tease. Diana didn't speak at this moment; she stood quietly, looking up at the surveillance image that belonged to Adam. Through the Realm's gate, Adam's vision blurred for a moment, and he found himself as if he had entered another world. The dark red sky, and under his feet was an endless desert; in here, no one was likely to have a sense of time. Most of the students hadn't left yet and were temporarily staying in place, considering whether to form teams or not. Adam, upon arriving in this world, didn't hesitate like the others. He scanned the area and quickly locked onto a figure, Henry. He strode over and extended a hand in a gesture for a handshake. Henry, seeing it was him, was taken aback and hadn't anticipated this turn of events. Was Adam initiating a truce? Outside the Realm, Norman, the Strengthquaker, who had been closely watching Adam's performance, frowned slightly. After becoming the target of public criticism, taking the initiative to make peace to remove the spotlight wasn't necessarily wrong. But he clearly didn't like this somewhat cowardly behavior—it was too unmanly. After a few seconds of surprise, Henry immediately put on a condescending expression, ignored Adam's outstretched hand, and mocked, "Are you trying to team up with me? Or what?" "Considering you're only E-rated, I'll take care of you. How about we split the points 20/80, you take 20, and I take 80?" Henry made no effort to control his voice, openly taunting. The people around Henry, who were in his group, began to laugh; no one expected to encounter such a weak opponent. However, in the next second, Adam's hand, which had been deliberately ignored by Henry, suddenly lunged forward and forcibly grabbed Henry's hand. Henry almost instantly realized it was bad, but it was too late. A chill surged, and his right arm lost sensation almost instantly. And that terrifying ice rapidly spread throughout his body. "Did you misunderstand something?" Adam spoke coldly. Henry's expression was one of sheer horror, all the mocking words stuck in his throat, unable to utter a single one. It should be known that he was not without defenses; although he was constantly taunting, ever since Adam had approached, the energy within him had been subtly flowing, preparing for action. The reason he had not shaken hands with Adam, apart from a hint of humiliation, was also to avoid direct physical contact.
