Chapter 9 Hearing of Everything

1315 Words
Without intentional control, the superpower activated like a passive skill immediately. In an instant, Adam felt like he had entered a nightclub filled with speakers, with the immense noise starting to torment his spirit. The whole world seemed to have started speaking, with stones shouting, wind howling, and the grass and plants on the ground beginning their own chatter, crazily shouting in Adam's ears. [Grass: Damn it, why did you spit on me!] [Cloud: Wind! Don't touch my butt, I want to go south, why are you blowing me north!] [Tree: That dog just peed on my foot, so annoying, it seems to be a stray dog from elsewhere, I've never seen it before, not local.] A cacophony of bizarre voices converged, causing Adam, who was completely unprepared, to feel a pounding in his temples, and the sudden mental torture quickly made his head split with pain. His face turned extremely ugly in an instant, he growled, clutching his head in pain with his left hand, and involuntarily gripping Marcus's hand tighter with his right, squatting on the ground. People around and Serena: ? Diana: ?? Marcus: ???! Marcus: What's going on here? Are you trying to frame me or something? I didn't do anything! Marcus's face began to contort; he had intended to come over and say a few words, hoping his daughter wouldn't make enemies before even starting university. But was there something off about this guy? He tried to move his hand slightly, attempting to pull it free. But it was clear that the other person's grip was tightening, as if enduring some pain. Suddenly, a figure appeared almost instantly in front of Marcus. Diana, standing at a distance and thinking something had happened, rushed over immediately. "How are you?" she asked, squatting down beside Adam with a hint of anxiety, disregarding any concerns about propriety as she grasped Adam's wrist. She felt for his pulse and the surge of energy within him, checking for any disruptions in his superpower. But upon careful sensing, she found nothing. She raised her head and looked at Marcus. "I didn't do anything! My superpower doesn't have any combat abilities; it's him who's been holding my hand!" Marcus quickly raised his hand in front of Diana, indicating that he felt truly misunderstood. Moreover, after years of navigating society, he had a keen eye for people. Although Diana showed no significant change on the surface, he distinctly felt as if he were being targeted by an extremely terrifying beast, feeling immense pressure. His daughter had told him that this student named Adam might have a connection with the chief assessor from BEA, but judging from the current situation, their relationship seemed more than superficial; the other party clearly cared deeply for Adam. "I'm fine, it's not Mr. Robert's fault," Adam finally managed to suppress the turmoil in his mind and said with difficulty. He discovered that this superpower could be controlled; the noise in his ears had diminished significantly. However, controlling it required immense mental strength and practice. In theory, he could selectively listen to the "messages" from the surrounding world or block out these sounds when not needed. But for now, he couldn't do that yet and needed to control it as much as possible. After a long while on the ground, he finally stood up, still feeling dizzy and disoriented, with occasional noise still reaching his ears, but overall, it was much better than before. Although the sounds appeared directly in his mind, Adam couldn't help but rub his ears. "Sorry for the disturbance," Adam released Marcus's hand and continued, "I'd like to ask you more about your superpower, what is it like in your daily life?" Marcus, seeing the cold sweat on his forehead, realized that Adam might have just had a problem and wasn't trying to frame him, which made him breathe a sigh of relief. He thought for a moment and said: "Actually, I used to be a police officer. Although my superpower isn't a combat one, it's well-suited for solving cases." "To put it simply, my eyes can quickly analyze every detail at a scene and connect each small piece of information to reconstruct possible insights." This was no secret, so Marcus spoke without any reservations. "What?" Hearing this, Adam didn't react much, but Diana couldn't help herself. "How could it only be D-rated? It should be very useful!" Hearing this, Marcus couldn't help but smile bitterly: "When my superpower awakened, it was a completely new one, and I reported it to the United Human Government for superpower rating." "But information is so vast and not necessarily useful when analyzed, and it consumes a lot of mental energy. They warned me at the time not to use it for more than half an hour, or there's a risk of brain death!" After listening to Marcus, Adam realized that his superpower had become completely different from Marcus. The description of Hand of God is "copy other superhumans' superpowers and enhance them to a certain extent." Unlike the previous Energy Chain, this enhancement was not a simple addition of a variant, but a qualitative change. Hearing of Everything does not mean that plants and trees have gained their own consciousness, but rather, it uses a personification method to listen to them "speak" the hidden information. Every stone lying on the ground, the wind blowing in the wind, and the trees standing by the roadside have witnessed countless unknown stories. Hearing of Everything is to listen to these inanimate objects tell Adam what has happened here, what is happening now, and what might happen in the future. In theory, this is a more terrifying and powerful force than Marcus's, and such a vast amount of information could instantly cause Adam's mental collapse. However, the enhancement of superpowers by Hand of God also includes reducing side effects. The information that originally directly impacted the spirit has become "sound," a change that makes Adam feel like there is noise all around his ears and a headache when his mental strength is not enough, but it does not lead to terrifying consequences like brain death. After understanding all this, even though his mind was still not very clear, Adam knew he had gained a great advantage. The superpower's rating has increased, and the side effects have become smaller! In that case, the level of this superpower is definitely not just D-rated. From a functional perspective, it may be even more terrifying than an S-rated superpower! He originally just wanted to casually copy a low-level superpower, but this time he hit the jackpot again. His luck seems to be pretty good these days. However, this has attracted everyone's attention again. Marcus had already unobtrusively retreated behind his bodyguards; he was really afraid of Adam now, fearing that getting too close would cause more trouble. If I can't afford to provoke, can't I even avoid it?! "So, what exactly happened to you just now? Are you alright physically?" Seeing Adam's condition improved, Diana asked. After all, she values Adam both professionally and personally and doesn't want anything to happen to him. And her question was also the question of everyone else present, with curious looks from the crowd. After all, it can't really be performance art! "This matter is a bit complicated," Adam thought, it's better to keep his superpower a secret for now. So he used the excuse he had already used once. "I don't know how to explain it, but my superpower may have developed a new variant." "What?!" Not just Diana, but everyone thought they had heard wrong. The crowd, who originally held a gossipy attitude, thought Adam might have some hidden illness, but upon hearing this, their eyes were like looking at a rich man who had won the lottery jackpot again! Why does everything that happens to him always turn out to be good!
