Chapter 4 The last spot

Soon, the afternoon passed, and the last candidate finished their test, with no one else approaching the candidate area.

In the assessment-exempt admission area, only the original six people remained.

A large group of candidates prepared to leave, some happy, some worried.

Diana had also adjusted her emotions and walked up to the six, about to speak:

"You all..."

However, before she could finish, she was interrupted by another voice.

Serena stepped forward, cutting in front of the group, bowed to Diana, and spoke loudly:

"Miss Matthews, I have something to say about the assessment-exempt admission spots."

Hearing this, all the candidates who had already left stopped in their tracks, curiously looking towards the central platform.

Their intuition told them that there might be a spectacle to witness.

Looking at the stopped crowd, Serena had no other choice; this was what she had thought of.

This was her goal, to take advantage of the moment before everyone left, to stop the assessor's words in their tracks, and under the watchful eyes of everyone, to ensure her plan could be carried out.

Whether or not she would offend anyone was a secondary concern; securing an assessment-exempt admission opportunity was more important than anything else.

"You mentioned earlier that there are five spots for assessment-exempt admission here,"

"Now, looking at the superpower ratings, among the six of us, it's just Adam Williams and I who have the lowest ratings," she continued. "So, in line with the purpose of the assessment, I believe the last spot should be contested between the two of us."

"Therefore, from a perspective of fairness and justice, I suggest we have a match between Adam and me to decide who gets the last spot," Serena said, her voice calm and her tone polite, but the emphasis on "fairness and justice" made her intentions clear.

Her words fell, and the excitement among the young people below was immediate. They quickly surrounded the central platform again, and the catcalling began.

Hearing this, Diana realized that her actions had been misunderstood. She had no intention of giving Adam an assessment-exempt admission; she knew an E-rated superpower was absolutely not up to the standard for such an exemption. She had Adam stand there simply to make it easier to talk to him after the assessment, thinking she might offer some resources to help him join the university as a regular student. After all, there have been cases of individuals with low superpower ratings defying the odds through hard work.

But clearly, Serena had misunderstood, leading to this scene. The young crowd, always eager for excitement, was already out of hand, with whistles and jeers filling the air, and even the supervisors around couldn't restore order.

"Good point, beautiful," someone shouted.

"Superhuman powers are ultimately about combat, let's see a fight!"

"Test his level! Crush him!"

"Hey! Are you going to accept or just keep your head down and back down?"

"If you're too scared, just get off the stage!"

Listening to the noise from the audience, Diana frowned, feeling a bit guilty. Her lack of clear communication had led to this misunderstanding, which must have caused Adam a lot of trouble. The various voices from the audience were clearly expressing dissatisfaction with Adam, but he had done nothing to deserve such abuse. It was an undeserved calamity.

For a moment, Diana felt her face flush, and she hardly dared to look at Adam. But as she was thinking about how to resolve this farce, a languid voice spoke up, making Diana look up in surprise.

"I'm fine with it. Should we do it now?" Adam stood to one side, speaking with an air of indifference.

Having just obtained such a powerful SSS-rated superpower, Adam himself was uncertain about his own level. He had already adjusted his mindset; as a superhuman in this world, engaging in combat was inevitable.

Now that someone was willing to come forward and spar with him, it was a good opportunity to familiarize himself with his superpower more quickly. Besides, with a woman challenging him and so many people watching, he couldn't back down at this moment.

His words surprised the crowd, and the loud noise around them quieted down a bit. No one had expected him to say such a thing.

In the next moment, the crowd erupted into even more intense laughter.

However, this time, apart from the mockery, the previous malice had diminished significantly.

After all, their intention in coming to jeer was merely to embarrass this "connected" individual who had gained entry through favoritism.

It was also unexpected that Adam actually dared to accept this challenge.

Everyone standing here was a superhuman, and they were well aware of the chasm-like gap between an E-rated superpower rating and a B-rated superpower rating.

The courage to face humiliation on the stage was, in itself, commendable.

"He's got some guts, actually daring to step up!"

"Although avoiding the fight is embarrassing, getting beaten up by a girl is also quite humiliating!"

The voices from the audience had already begun to place bets on this match.

Listening to the noise below, Diana finally looked up at Adam's face and spoke with a complex expression:

"Are you sure? Don't push yourself."

Adam nodded, indicating his seriousness.

Upon hearing this, Diana let out a slight sigh and didn't try to dissuade him further.

She was not unaware of social niceties and knew that in such a situation, no explanation would be of any use.

In her eyes, Adam, for the sake of a man's dignity, indeed found it hard to back down at this moment.

If things took a turn for the worse and Adam was about to be defeated, she would intervene to help.

At this moment, Serena had already stood at the other end of the test stage, with a relaxed look on her face and a clear gleam of delight in her eyes.

After all, in her view, her plan had succeeded, which was equivalent to securing a spot through her own efforts.

In an instant, the assessment test stage transformed into a battleground for the two, each standing in their respective positions, looking towards Diana who was temporarily acting as the referee.

Just then, Adam raised an eyebrow as if a thought had suddenly struck him, and he addressed Diana in the middle:

"If I can't control the power of my superpower, I hope you can step in and save the situation."

Hearing this, Diana nodded without hesitation and said, "Of course, the match will be stopped at the right moment, and I will be ready to intervene for protection."

Standing at the other end of the stage, Serena, who was already prepared for the fight, also spoke:

"Rest assured, Williams, we have no grudges, and I will definitely know my limits."

Adam listened to their words and was taken aback for a moment, but he didn't plan to explain further.

His real intention was that his newly acquired SSS-rated superpower might be something he couldn't control well, fearing that it could lead to undesirable outcomes.

However, almost no one in the audience, including Diana, understood his meaning correctly.

They all thought it was a safety measure Adam was taking for himself, worried about being injured too severely.

But at this moment, no one was laughing; everyone understood, as the gap in superpower ratings was indeed too significant.

Even in Diana's heart, she admired Adam's choice, thinking that he had not lost his rationality due to a moment of youthful impulsiveness.

Without further explanation, Adam took a deep breath as Diana shouted the start, beginning to sense the surging violent power within him.
