Chapter Twenty-Five The Lorn of HephaestusRob beheld the shattered landscape. Never before had he seen such desolation, and he had traversed this realm more than any other human. The flat barren stone shone with a reddish tint, and what looked to be intermittent jets of scalding water and steam hissed from gaping chasms and gorges. Mist hovered high above their heads, like gossamer clouds, never descending from the height reached by the tallest geyser. It was from this canopy a sickly glow of opaque light seemed to radiate. Broken islands cast dark silhouettes against the glowing moats as if the life essence of this land was being forced, in all its burning radiance, through any fissure it could find.
