“Would you believe I need an army?”
“We're at your disposal. We assumed it was something like that.” Jones gestured outside, as if to indicate the protection that surrounded them. “You sent all your strongest allies to our door. It's lucky for us you hold us in such high regard.”
“I swore you an oath. Even without your assistance we—”
“Enough said. What can we do?” Jones interrupted before Daniel could finish. It was not wise to have him dwell on this thought longer than necessary. He believed what he was saying, but Jones knew if their aid had not been needed he would not have come to them so readily. Sometimes even allies had to be sacrificed for the greater good.
Daniel was new to this kind of leadership. He was asking people to place their trust in him and their lives in his hands.
