Saddling the two horses went smoothly. The first, a mare, willingly followed Lucas Milankovitch from the pasture into the stable. The second, a filly, hesitated. Sela, Lucas's much younger visitor, hesitated too. She had been raised on a ranch in Montana and knew how to handle horses. But it wasn't in her nature to take the lead. She waited, watching him. Once Lucas tied the mare at the tack room, he sighed, put on leather roping gloves and took a well-used lasso off the wall.
