Chapter 16After spending a week preparing the farmstead for winter, I ventured into town and bought a load of peat from the trader who customarily brought the fuel down from Canada. Despite the hateful sign at the town limits, no one gave me a second look. I also scoured the now abandoned Stubblefield place for charred timbers and any other fireplace fuel to add to our woodpile. Spring would be a long time coming. I was beginning to fret…nay, that is a misnomer.
