“Raquel!” Mother yelled. I stood in shock. I had not expected it.
It turned out Mother had been calling me for a while but I did not hear as I was lost in thought.
“Get whatever you have in mind out of your head, it is in your head. It is just your imagination” She spoke quietly.
My brothers stared at me. I could tell they were wondering what was ‘in my head.
Ralph, the youngest of my brothers raised his brows at me, asking me what was wrong.
I smiled at him and pretended nothing was wrong even though it was!
“I would be going to the market today right after we have breakfast.
Your brothers would be going to work. Who would you like to go with? Me or any of your brothers?” She questioned, looking at me with concern.
Everyone's gaze was diverted to me, waiting for my decision.
“Thank you mother but I will be visiting Gwen today. I have something to sort out with her” Gwen was a very good friend of mine.
My mother liked her so much.
Hearing my decision, my brothers focused on their meal again.
Rafael, my oldest brother looked unbothered.
We rarely talked. Well, he rarely talked to anyone. He was the quietest of us all. Mother nodded and continued having her meal.
“Mother, I have to go now” Rafael stood up. He had not finished his meal yet he was leaving.
Well, it was a usual habit. He eats little, talks little, smiles little, he did everything so little.
“Alright” Mother nodded. Rafael was an artist. He was known by all and sundry as he was quite good with artistry.
All of the mother's children seemed to be good in one thing or another.
She was indeed blessed by the moon goddess.
My oldest brother, Rafael was a very good artist that could paint anything, even flying birds.
He was known by all and sundry in the whole pack. My older brother, Rex was a carpenter. He never seemed to be at loss for a client.
He always had people coming to him. My last brother whom I was next to, Ralph was a music artist.
He played the violin as well as the piano so well that everyone and anyone would want to listen to him so people always had him play.
Well, I was the youngest of them all and I did….. nothing. I was the only daughter so my mother granted me the freedom of doing nothing.
“I would like to leave as well, mother” Rex stood up and so did Ralph. Mother smiled and nodded.
Rex placed a kiss on my chin while Ralph waved at me, holding his violin carefully.
I had no idea why he brought it home anyway. He never played it at home.
if I had not gone to see him perform before, I would have doubted if he knew how to pull the strings.
I smiled as I waved back at them.
“Hurry up. Pack the table. Clean the dishes and then, you can go on to wherever you want to.
Do not take too long. Make dinner before we return and do ensure the lock is intact” Mother instructed as she stood up, preparing to leave for the market as well. I nodded with a smile on my face.
It was more like an anthem to me so I knew what she wanted to say.
“Have a wonderful day, my love” She placed a kiss on my head and waved me goodbye.
It's time!
