Chapter 6...The Plan

586 Words
The streets were dark and cold, the kind of place where secrets were exchanged. King Robert stood, his face a mask of irritation, as he waited for his trusted spy. The clock on his phone displayed 4:00 AM. "Come out now, the course is clear." A figure emerged from the shadows, a woman with long, pale hair and a ruby-red glint in her eyes. It was Luna, the spy. "I'm here, sir, as requested," Luna said, her voice a calm whisper that cut through the silence. "Do you remember the plan?" the king asked, his tone gruff and demanding. "Of course, boss," Luna replied, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "Go over it, then, Luna. Tell me the plan," King Robert commanded, a test in his voice. Luna didn't hesitate. "I'm supposed to spy on the prince at school without him knowing I'm there. I'm also not allowed to let anyone know of my existence." She continued, "Then, I have to observe him from close and from afar so that I can report back what I had seen to you, sir." The king nodded, a flicker of satisfaction in his usual stern expression. "Good. I also want you to take photos of him and any acquaintances of his that seem close to him." "Got it, boss. Shall we go on now? I have to start getting prepared for my secret mission," Luna said, a sudden excitement in her demeanor. "Nice to see you so excited about being my spy, Luna, but I think..." the king began, his voice trailing off as he noticed the first light of dawn. "Think what, sir?" Luna looked up, curious. "It would be wiser of me to ask for you to go home and get some rest." "But... why, boss? Tell me!" she protested. "If you are going to work for me, you need to be fully rested and ready to work," King Robert explained. "I understand, I guess," Luna said, a touch of disappointment in her tone. "This meeting is coming to an end, and you should probably go home now before the sun is completely up, Luna," he said, gesturing to the brightening sky. "Sure thing, boss," she said, before turning and vanishing back into the shadows. --- At the palace, Tyler sat at the breakfast table, stabbing his pancake, which lay on his plate. The butler approached him, a concerned look on his face. "Young master, please wake up and have your breakfast now," he said. "Yeah, sure, thanks," Tyler replied, his mind elsewhere. "What seems to be the matter?" the butler asked kindly, heart filled with concern. "It's nothing, really. I just feel like my dad is planning something behind my back," Tyler admitted. "Oh, please don't worry about your father, sir. Instead, worry about your school life," the butler reassured him before asking, "Also, young master, how has school been treating you, and did you make any friends?" "Yeah, you're right, and school is going great," Tyler said, a small smile appearing. "I did make some friends, and I'm being treated as a normal high school boy who is apparently popular because I have good looks, I'm talented, and I'm smart. At least, that's what people tell me." "Good. I'm happy that you're having a great time at school," the butler said, genuinely pleased. "Thank you for helping me so I can get to be a normal kid," Tyler said, finally taking a bite of his pancake, a sense of hope filling him.
