Chapter Four

2130 Words
MAYA'S POV "Allan? so it was you? How could you? You were the one? you're the reason my life turned out like this" I said to him through gritted teeth, every word laced with anger and hatred pointing my finger at him in accusation. He returned my look of annoyance and rage with a look of confusion and bewilderment, his eyebrows scrunching together in utter disarray. "I'm sorry?" he questioned, eyebrows still scrunched together. "What exactly are you talking about Maya, what do I have to do with your life turning out like this? And why do you look so angry?" Allan asked still clearly discombobulated. "Besides, what are you doing in my chambers? You should be resting" he said looking at me with a hint of worry in his eyes. Taking in my form from my head to my toes and back up, his eyes stopped at my hands where the paper he wrote those heart piercing words lay and widened in shock. Did he know who I was? Is that why he took me in? But I'm his mate, he can decide to use that as an excuse. "What are you doing with that? I don't appreciate people going through my stuff, so please give it back" Allan demanded in a calm yet commanding tone with his palm open waiting for me to return the paper. Willing myself to calm down and not jump to conclusions, I decided to ask him. "No, I won't. Not until you tell me how you got that scar on your face and how you became the lycan king" I demanded with a straight face crossing my hand over my chest. "Maya what are you saying? Where's all of this coming from? Please don't test my patience, I'm not in the best of moods right now" he said his voice growing deeper and more menacing with each word making me flinch. Noticing that he scared me, Allan took a deep breath before speaking again "Maya please give the paper back, I'll tell you but not today". "Well I insist Allan, I want to know today". I refuse to be a pushover anymore, no one will ever treat me like trash. I need to be strong now, not just for myself but for the child growing in me. Even if I don't know who the father is, it is still my child and I'll protect him or her with everything I have. Coming to that resolve, I square my features and face Allan properly. "Allan the earlier you start talking the quicker we get over this, otherwise I'm leaving and you won't ever find me. So what is it going to be?" I ask him earning a look of bewilderment from him. I think he saw there was no way he was going to talk me out of it or persuade me to change my mind so he sighed in defeat. "Okay, I'll tell you, but first, have a seat. I don't want you on your feet for too long plus the story is quite long" he said surprising me ushering me to the chair while he sat on the other one directly beside mine. I didn't think it would be this easy to get him to talk, I already prepared for the worst which probably entailed him leaving me here alone without answers or locking me up. I even thought about the possibility of him telling me to leave by himself but I didn't think he would just yield assent so easily. He must have seen the slight look of shock on my face because he asked "why do you look like that?" "Like what? How do I look?" I asked sounding defensive. "You look surprised, like you weren't expecting me to agree to tell you" he asked. "Well because I didn't think you'd tell me, I just tried what I could" I responded admitting the truth. "Why did you agree to tell me so easily?" I ask him. "Because you're my mate, I'm not going to hide anything from you. You're my other half, I owe you the truth" he said very easily like he was talking about the weather making my breath hitch. "If I understand you, what you're saying in essence is you agreed because I'm your mate and you don't want to keep anything from me is that correct?" I ask Allan just to be sure and he nodded in reply. "So you haven't told anyone else this story?" I ask him narrowing my eyes anticipating his answer. "Yes I have, but it's just one person, you're the second and most likely the last one I'll tell it to" Allan responded with a straight face like it was the most natural thing to say making me smile. But the smile disappeared as soon as it came. What if he didn't mean it the way I thought he did? What if he wants to kill me? I wouldn't put it past him, he's already done it before, it wouldn't be so hard for him to do it again. "The last one? What happened to the person you told before me? Did they betray you and you ended up killing him or her? Do you plan to kill me after telling me? Is that why you easily agreed to tell me, since I'm going to die after hearing it?" I ask raising my eyebrow warily. "What kinds of things are running through your head? Why would you think I'd want to kill you? Why would I want to kill my mate? For your information Maya, the person is well and still very much alive. I said that because I don't owe anybody explanations except you and that person" I tried to speak but he raised a finger, signalling me to hold on. "I answer to no one because no one dares challenge me, well, except you and because I don't think there's any other person I would readily want to say this to" Allan answered very easily like he had rehearsed it many times before finally saying it to me. "So the other person is still alive, then where is she?" I ask curiosity and a little bit of jealousy rising in me slowly. “Why am I jealous, it's not like I care if he likes someone else, I hate him because he killed my mother so why do I care about the other woman. Wait, he never said the other person was a woman right?” I thought to myself, deciding to go with the last one. "Yes the last person is very much alive and you will meet her soon" he said trampling on my happiness. Moon goddess why? If my mother didn't die because of him, my life would be perfect and I'd be happy. "First of all, Maya that was good. Never show your enemy your fear, don't let them know all your moves. Even when you have nothing and you're scared to death, never show fear if not your fear will be used against you" Allan said surprising me even further. "You're my mate and the soon to be the lycan queen, you should act like it. You're no longer the scrawny, enslaved, homeless and defenseless little girl you used to be. Do you understand me?" Allan asked me. In that moment, it took a lot of will and self control to keep myself from telling him I was homeless, scrawny and enslaved and all of the things he said because of him. I just nodded in response and swallowed my words. "Good, before we start you need to eat something. I can't have you starving yourself. What do you want to eat?" Allan asks me. "I actually was starving, that's why I came looking for you in the first place but I'm not exactly hungry anymore so I don't think I'll be having anything" I answered him smiling slightly. "I'll just have them bring you some fruits and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice is that okay?" He asked me raising his eyebrows. "Yeah sure, but I'd rather have mango juice" "Alright no problem, I'll inform Glenn and tell her to bring it up for you" he said moving to stand up from the chair to inform Glenn which I've come to know as the head of all other affairs, she was like the house manager or something. She seems like a very nice woman from the few encounters we have had. In no more than a minute, he was back and took his place sitting beside me. ******************************************** "It all started 16 years ago, when the rogue king killed everything and everyone in his path, including the royal family" Allan started. "That day, there was turmoil everywhere, I lived with just my mother, she raised me alone. We were together in the house hiding from the rogues when they came. Mother asked me to stay quiet and not to make a sound" Allan continued, it seems like this is very hard for him to talk about even till now. "Mother went out and closed the door behind her, I heard the rogues asking if there was anyone else living in the house and she said no, she was the only one but they didn't believe her so they wanted to search the house but she refused so they......." Allan trailed off taking a deep breath before continuing. "The leader among them asked the others to move her so they could search, and then she told them that that would only happen over her dead body, and the rogues killed her outside our house". "I heard her screams of pain and there was nothing I could do about it, I felt so afraid, defenseless, useless and worthless. Then I heard my mama, she said “Allan you can't die, you must survive. You have to survive” I held on to those words and swore to myself i wouldn't die". "Just then, the rogue leader among them said he didn't even feel the need to search the house anymore. He just said “burn it, whoever is still inside will die inside” And they set fire to our house, I made......" Just then, a knock interrupted us. "Come in Glenn" Allan said and I was puzzled, what if it was someone else. When the door opened, indeed it was Glenn, she dropped the fruits and juice before going back out in silence. "Help yourself Maya" Allan told me gesturing towards the plate in front of us, but I knew within me I couldn't keep anything down at this point. I felt sick to my stomach and not because of the pregnancy, because the story was heading to the part I dreaded the most so I just told Allan the truth. "Allan I don't feel so good right now, I don't think I'll be able to stomach anything. If it gets better later on then I'll eat, if you want to, you can have some. Before we continue the story, I have a question?" I ask expectantly. "Sure ask away" he urged me. "How did you know it was Glenn? She didn't even say her name, it could've been someone else" I ask, my curiosity getting the better of me. "You see, Glenn has a pattern to her knocking, one only I know how to decide. She has been with me the longest out of everyone you see here, she's like a second mother to me. Earlier when I was talking about the second person in my life, I was talking about her. I trust her explicitly" He added. “Ohh, it was Glenn he was talking about, well okay. I can deal with that” i thought to myself. "Ohh okay, I understand. Let's just continue then" I urge him "Alright that's fine, if that's what you want then it's okay. Sure we'll continue" Allan said picking up a fruit. "I tried to come out of the house, but immediately I opened the door, something fell on me, making me incapable of moving. I was stuck and pleading for help, until this woman came....... His voice started sounding muffled in my head, each word sounding more distant than the last. All of a sudden, I was no longer in Allan's room, I was transported back to that night. The night I lost everyone and everything, the night I lost the last person that I called family, all because of him. I lost my mother because of him. She died because she tried to save him but he ran away and left her for dead the minute he got out, while my innocent, kind hearted mother died right in front of my eyes.
