Chapter 4. Sunnie

Holy hell, this store looks like a tornado went through here. Lucky for us it looks like there is still plenty for us to take. I find a bottle of water and start chugging it. " I would kill for some whiskey right now." Alex ignores me and starts filling up his bag. "Soo you come here often?" Alex stops what he's doing. " Did you really just use a pick up line on me?" Said Alex. ” yep sure did." Alex smiles and goes back to what he was doing.

As I am walking around the store I find a large bookbag and start putting stuff I may need in it. Tampons were the first thing I grab, just because this is a apocalypse doesn't mean I don't get shark week once a month. Next I go to the snack isle, not much there, but I manage to find some ding-dongs.... I mean how could I not grab them. The name alone makes it worthy enough to go in my bag.

Before we left I grabbed some body wash, shampoo and conditioner, no more smelling like a petting zoo. Alex and I start to walk to the exit when Toby and Nick run in telling us to get down. Of course I do what they say and duck behind the counter. " There is a horde coming, everyone stay still and be quiet." said Toby. Me being the rebel that I am, I peak around to look out the glass window to see hundreds of kittens going by.

I stood there in shock for a long time before Toby pulled me back down. " Are you insane!?" Toby whispered. I didn't say anything, seeing all of them in the same place at once really freaked me out. Why were they here? We sat in silence for a hour untill the last one was out of sight. " Do you guys know what started this? How the virus got out?"

"I guess like in the movies?" said Alex. " When I was in the military, we were asked to guard a lab in Texas, none of us knew why but they were working on something in there that just felt off." said Nick. That gave me chills to think about. What are they hiding in Texas?

The guys get up and start gathering more supplies, while I stand watch. It's been quiet for so long. " hey what does a vegetarian zombie eat?" " Can't wait to hear this one." Said Toby. "GRAINNS." Toby and Alex start laughing and Nick gives me a proper smile for the first time. " Your proud of that one, aren't you?" said Nick. " Yep, I mean come on it's only right to have a zombie dad joke, laughing makes everything better even when we are surrounded by kittens."

I'm happy we were able to get our supplies that we needed without any other run in's with kittens. " Soooo where are we going now." I hope it's some place I can take a shower. " We need to find a place to rest and eat, do you have any place around here other than your tree Tarzan?" said Nick. " haha very funny, I have a apartment about two blocks away, but I'm not sure it's safe. Last time I was there my mom and little sister were trying to chew my face off."

We walked in silence for what felt like forever. " You lost your whole family?" said Alex. " Yea it was my first encounter with kittens, I should have set their souls free, but I didn't have it in me so I ran." About 10 minutes later we arrived at my apartment. It looked way worse than I left it, though everything around here looked run down now. " Should I knock first?" The three of them turned to look at me, probably to judge if I was serious or joking. I reach up and turn the door knob and push the door open, we wait to hear if anything or anyone moves. " I think it's safe to go in now." I walk into my apartment and it's really dark I can't see anything.
