Chapter 3: Angelic Amtrak

828 Words
The next few hours you say staring at Benny's feather on your coffee table until the orange of dawn peeked through the window. A single ray of light passes over the feather and reflects into your eye breaking you from the trance like state you were in. You blink and then look back at the feather which is now just a few inches long and on a silver accented gold necklace. You put it around your neck and silently you think to yourself, "Challenge accepted." Aloud you say looking upward to the ceiling, "Hey Benny boy you there? I'll do it. I accept this task. I'll do my best to help fix this." You hear the sound of distant thunder as if beyond the horizon yet deafeningly loud and resonating from inside your own head. An instant later a tapping on the window pierces your ear and rumbles your chest. Slightly less startled than before you walk to the window knowing that Benny was now here. Benny floats in tucking his dimly glowing wings around himself as you close the window behind him. "I heard your your words. You have my gratitude for this. Are you ready?" Benny says as he turns to you. "Yes. But I'm not sure exactly what a single human like me can do." You asked. Reaching out his hand Benny places his index and middle fingers to your forehead and replies, "You would be surprised friend. I have watched the Earthly dimensions for many centuries and I have come to realize that mortals are often more than they or even God himself knows." His dim aura began brightening slowly into a blinding white light as everything quakes and your ears crackle with the sound of electricity popping. Intense heat quickly builds between your forehead and Benny's fingers then suddenly everything flickers then goes black. Waking up you begin to realize that you're not actually waking up physically. You appear to be inside of your mind like a dream. Looking around for Benny you start to wonder who's mind you are really in. Nothing around you except golden clouds of light that tickle your skin like static electricity. A thunderous voice echoes all around you from seemingly everywhere, "Have you acclimated accordingly?" You respond looking upward, "I'm guessing we're not inside of my mind are we?" "Correct. You are inside of my mind. This is the only known way for a living mortal to travel between dimensions unharmed." Benny's voice rumbles. "Well then, I'm ready whenever you are Benny boy." You reply. A moment goes by before you continue, "So um, any adverse or dangerous side effects of this Angelic Amtrak I might need to know about by the way?" Once more Benny's words rumbles all around, "Feel free to inform me when the maiden voyage has concluded." Displaying the first semblance of humor Benny adds, "Assuming we make it that is. Now then, all passengers keep your arms, legs and head inside the vehicle at all times during the ride please and thank you." Seconds later you feel that intense heat again and as the crackling sound fades you open your eyes to blurred, darkened vision. The smell of sulfur mixed with stale cigarette smoke, chlorine and pondscum attack your nose and throat causing you to violently puke gasping for breath As you catch a breath of this toxic air you hear a sizzling and realize that the ground is extremely hot. "Wha.. *cough* *heave* whe.." "Do not worry." Benny cuts you off, "It may take a few moments for you to adjust. I will survey ahead and return momentarily." *zapp** He darts off leaving you to freak out for a moment hoping you will adjust properly. Choking and gagging as you calm yourself and begin to feel normal. All except for your eyes it seems. Everything is still dark and hazy, unless it's merely dank and dark in whatever place this was. You wonder for a moment while inspecting the rest of yourself and shaking off the dust. "Everything seems to be attached and working. Good. Now to.... wait here for Benny I guess. only thing I can do in this darkness." You confirm aloud maybe to test your ears for hearing. After a while you grow bored and began tapping your feet in random rhythm and counting until you lose track over and over. Minutes pass.. Hours pass... You start to doze off and soon find yourself asleep on the ground and lay there for hours until you are woken up not only by the burning sensation all over your backside, but the poking and screeching noises of what you can only assume are likely demons harassing you. You can't see them but you can feel the legs of a few of them while using their screeching you ate able to estimate roughly where a handful more are located. You plant you're right foot and slowly rise to standing. What now?
