Sophie....
It was just another normal day at work. I was sitting at my desk, typing away at the report I’d been assigned. The office buzzed around me, the usual hum of phones ringing, people chatting, and keyboards clacking filling the air. I was focused on finishing the task in front of me when I heard the familiar sound of footsteps approaching.
Mia and James appeared at my desk, looking more excited than usual. I gave them both a quick glance, raising an eyebrow.
“What happened?” I said, not expecting anything out of the ordinary.
But they couldn’t hide their smiles. Mia was practically bouncing on the balls of her feet.
“Sophie! You’re not going to believe this!” she said, practically bursting with excitement.
James chimed in, unable to contain his enthusiasm. “Your idea! The boss loved it. He actually liked it!”
I blinked, taken aback. “Wait, what? You mean... he liked my idea?” I asked, my heart doing a little skip.
Mia and James nodded eagerly. “Yes! It was brilliant. He was really impressed, and,” she paused for dramatic effect, “he wants to meet with you to discuss it more.”
For a split second, I froze. Me? Elliot Hayes wanted to talk to me about my idea? I felt a rush of excitement flood my chest. The CEO of the company, one of the most powerful men I knew, actually took an interest in something I’d suggested.
“I can’t believe it,” I muttered, trying to keep the shock off my face. “He actually wants to talk to me?”
“Yeah!” James grinned. “He wants to dive deeper into it. I think he’s impressed with how well you handled the whole thing.”
“Honestly, Sophie,” Mia added, “this could be big for you. You should be proud.”
I felt a grin spread across my face before I could even stop it. “I didn’t think it would go this far,” I admitted, still processing the fact that my idea had made such an impression.
“You did great,” James said with a wink. “Now go knock it out of the park when you meet with him.”
I nodded, a little overwhelmed, but thrilled at the same time. “I will. Thanks, guys.”
As they left, I sat there for a moment, my fingers still hovering over the keyboard. I couldn’t help but smile to myself. Elliot Hayes,my boss, the CEO, was going to meet with me about my idea. For once, I felt like I had done something right. Maybe this was my chance to make a real impression.
.
.
A week had passed since I’d heard the incredible news that Mr Hayes wanted to meet with me. At first, I felt a flutter of excitement, thinking I’d be seeing him soon. But as the days dragged on, I started to wonder if it was all just a fluke. I hadn’t seen him once in the office, not even in passing.
I tried to push it out of my mind and focus on my tasks, but each time I heard someone mention Elliot or talk about the upcoming project, my thoughts would inevitably drift back to him. What if he’d forgotten about me? What if my idea wasn’t actually as impressive as I thought?
But then, one afternoon, as I was working on some last-minute changes to a report, my phone buzzed. I checked it, half-expecting another email from James, but this time it was different.
“Sophie, the boss wants to see you in his office. Now.”
I stared at the message for a second, unable to process it. Then, my heart started racing. This was it. He wanted to talk to me. After a week of wondering, the moment had finally arrived.
I quickly straightened up in my seat, trying to calm the butterflies in my stomach. I hadn’t prepared for this. I wasn’t even sure what I was supposed to say. But I had no time to overthink it, so I just grabbed my notepad and headed toward the elevator.
As I walked through the floor, I found myself staring at the gleaming doors of his office. I’d seen it from a distance before, but now that I was walking closer, I felt a wave of nervous energy flood over me. What would it be like in there?
When I arrived, the secretary nodded at me, and before I knew it, I was stepping into Elliot’s office.
And, wow. I don’t even think “impressive” fully captured the essence of what I was seeing. The office was massive, the walls lined with dark wood, sleek glass, and framed pieces of modern art. There was a polished desk in the center, surrounded by elegant furniture. But the real showstopper? The view.
Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the entire city, the skyline stretching out in every direction. The lights of the city below sparkled like a blanket of stars. It was the kind of view you only saw in movies, and I felt like I was standing in the middle of one.
I walked in a little slower than I intended, completely lost in the sight. For a moment, I forgot where I was, forgot that I was here to meet the CEO of the company, the man I’d been secretly hoping to impress.
“Stunning, isn’t it?” I heard Elliot’s voice pull me out of my daze.
I jumped, then quickly cleared my throat. “Uh, yeah, it’s amazing. I mean, the view. It’s just... wow,” I stammered, my cheeks flushing with embarrassment at how casual I was being.
Elliot raised an eyebrow, a slight smile tugging at his lips. “I’m glad you think so. It’s my favorite part of the office.”
I chuckled awkwardly, trying to pull myself together. “Sorry, I was just... I didn’t expect it to be so... well, impressive.”
He stepped toward the desk, his expression more relaxed than I’d ever seen. “I get that a lot. People often forget how much you can see when you’re up this high.”
I nodded, still feeling a little out of place. “Yeah, it’s like everything below looks so... small.”
He chuckled, and for a moment, I caught myself smiling at the sound of it. “I suppose it does,” he agreed.
I took a deep breath and reminded myself to focus. This was my moment. “You wanted to talk about the idea?” I asked, finally bringing my attention back to the reason I was here.
Elliot’s demeanor shifted slightly as he sat down at his desk, his gaze now fully on me. “Yes. I think it’s got a lot of potential. I’ve been thinking about how we could implement it, and I have a few ideas myself. But I wanted to hear your thoughts. How do you think we should move forward?”
I blinked in surprise. I wasn’t expecting him to want my input on it at all. But here he was, giving me the chance to speak my mind.
“I think, well, I think it could be really beneficial if we...” I started, gathering my thoughts.
And from there, we got into the details of the project. I felt surprisingly comfortable, speaking with him in a way I hadn’t expected. The nerves I had when I first entered his office seemed to melt away as we discussed the future of the idea, and I could tell that Elliot was genuinely interested in hearing what I had to say.
Elliot....
I was sitting behind my desk, going over a few details in preparation for the meeting when I heard the knock on my door. My eyes lifted just as Sophie stepped into the room.
At first, I was distracted by how casually she entered, no hesitation, no sign of nervousness, just confident. She looked... different. There was something more relaxed about her, something that made her seem more at ease than I expected.
I couldn’t help but notice the way she looked. The sunlight streaming through the windows seemed to catch her just right, making her look even more effortlessly charming than usual. Her hair fell in soft waves around her face, and her smile was warm, almost like she wasn’t intimidated by the grand office or the fact that she was standing in front of her CEO.
I hadn’t expected that. I watched her for a moment, taking in the way she walked, the way she looked surprised by the awe-inspiring view. It made her look... well, cute.
I smirked, trying to hide the soft feeling that stirred inside me.
"Stunning, isn’t it?" I said, stepping away from the desk to ease the tension I hadn’t even realized had built up in me.
Her reaction was everything I hadn’t expected. She stammered a little, her eyes widening, clearly taken in by the view. But what struck me was how... real she was. Not many people had the guts to just speak their mind like that, even if it meant admitting they were taken aback by the grandeur of the place.
"Uh, yeah, it’s amazing. I mean, the view. It’s just... wow," she said, her voice a bit sheepish.
I couldn’t help it. I smiled. There was something about the way she was so genuine, that I found endearing. It made me like her even more.
“Stunning, isn’t it?” I repeated, leaning back against the desk, still watching her. "I get that a lot. People often forget how much you can see when you’re up this high."
She nodded, her cheeks turning a faint pink. She quickly tried to gather herself. "Yeah, it’s like everything below looks so... small."
I chuckled softly, amused by how easygoing she was, even in this intimidating setting. "I suppose it does."
As the conversation shifted to the topic I’d wanted to discuss, her idea for the project,I found myself even more impressed with how she handled herself. She didn’t just deliver an answer; she gave me her honest thoughts, unafraid to speak up, even though I was the CEO.
I could feel the shift in the room as we dove into the discussion. It was no longer about the office, or the view, or any of the usual formalities. It was about the work, and her ability to stand on her own, to express herself confidently.
I hadn’t expected her to make such an impression, but she had. She was sharp, insightful, and completely unafraid to challenge my ideas when she felt it was necessary. And yet, there was still that sweetness in the way she spoke, the warmth in her voice.
It made me smile again, though I kept it hidden behind a thoughtful expression. Sophie wasn’t like anyone I’d ever met in this company. There was something about her that just felt... real. And I liked that.
