I had grown numb to the horrific images of my dreams which scared me. The fear and sadness I had felt shifted into a casing of ice. I watched and re-watched this war a hundred times. Yeah, I’d become numb. But each time I rolled over Jonah’s corpse, there was fresh pain that wounded me down to my very core. It was during this latest replay that a man appeared beside me. He didn’t say anything, nor could I turn to look at him. But I felt his presence next to me. It was calm. Soothing. Or maybe, I’d gone too numb to feel anything else again. I had sunk to my knees at some point, but I couldn’t remember when. I couldn’t think of anything other than the blood that made my beloved’s face unrecognizable.
