Chapter 5

1265 Words
Aria’s POV I collapsed on the small bed, but the tears didn’t come. All I felt was hate for my own existence and that cocky bastard. I got up from the bed and began to look for something to end my misery with. After a while of searching, I decided I was going to break the vase and use the glass to cut my veins. Just when I was about to smashed it, there was a light knock on the door. “Come in” I said with disappointment. Tristan walked in holding a food tray “I am so sorry for interrupting your time alone but I brought you something.” “Hello” I greeted awkwardly. “Hi, I brought you food” he placed the tray on the table. “I figured you were hungry after all that training and probably too ashamed to show your face to the kitchen tonight” I opened my mouth to protest but I couldn’t find it within me. “Thank you very much” I mumbled. “Eat up okay you are going to need the strength for tomorrow’s activities” “What is happening tomorrow?” “Just some more training” he raised his brows. “Alright I would leave you to your thoughts now.” “Okay, thank you so much.” “You are welcome my lady” he smiled and I wondered why he was so different. “Are you really Darian’s brother?” “Yes, why?” he asked “Nothing” I stole a quick glance at the vase. “We don’t act alike?” he asked with concern in his voice. “Not even close.” “We are more alike than you think actually” he smiled. “You are just seeing the surface.” “That would be hard to convince me of” I folded my hands and he chuckled. “I would take my leave now” he picked up the vase and all I wanted to do was to snatch it from him. “I would get some fresh flowers” he added and exited the room. After a while of thought, I dived into my food. Once I was done, a servant came into the room with the vase and cleared my table. When I was sure she had left, I hurriedly emptied the vase. It was after a while of contemplating did I realize that Tristan did notice my quick glance at the vase. He had replaced it with a steel look alike. The day couldn’t get worse could it? I mean I had to plough a farm like a cow. What’s the worst that could happen. I retired for the night. Hoping that someday in my hopeless life my life would become good enough to make me want to live. ****** Darian stood on what looked like a podium and addressed everyone the next morning. “As you well know, there is absolutely no room for weakness in the brawny pack so I need my soldiers to be fit and ready at all times. Some of you are here by choice why some have no choice but to be here” he paused for a beat letting that sink in. He was a bastard. “So I do want you to realize that since you are now here, you have to be at your utmost best” the men nodded. “You are a fresh batch of trainers and for you to have made it this far means you all are trustworthy. Now let’s test those muscles shall we” I trained like the men. The obstacles, the weights, I was required to lift them all. It was ridiculous. I preferred the days when I would to hide in the shadows and beg for scrapes of food from people that hated me. Darian led the training and he kept yelling and reminding everyone that there was no place for weakness in his pack. Our gazes occasionally met and I knew he was referring to me. I tried keeping up with the others and whenever I felt I was giving up, Tristan would yell up to me and ask me to keep going. I finally made it to the end hoping that Darian might look just a bit impressed. I was wrong he didn't even acknowledge my presence. I had dinner with the ladies in the kitchen and I must say for the very first time in years, I felt among. They didn’t treat me like an outcast, instead Eddie made a welcome cake for me. I nearly cried my eyes out with the gesture. I received the best hugs from Eddie and I knew that if I had met my mother, she would probably look like her. Eddie wasn’t the only one who liked me a lot. Adena couldn’t get enough of me. “So can we be best friends now” she finally asked after a moment of long silence. “I guess, I really don’t know how it works” I shrugged. “You mean you have never had a best friend?” she asked and I nodded. “That means we are first time best friends” She squeezed me tight. “So, what do I do?” I asked curious as to how this whole best friend thing was all about. It had been long I had someone to call friend or even a best friend. Did Darian even have friends? I’m sure his temper was his closest ally. I really wondered how Tristan coped with such an Alpha. Her eyes widened with happiness “So basically we just tell each other everything, whatever is bothering us down to the very last detail” “I see” “I need you to not just see” she shook me vigorously “ I need you to know” “I am knowing Adena, I am learning from you” She pouted to show she was dissatisfied with my answer. “Okay fine then, tell me about yourself” “Myself?” “Yes, like where you are from and all that” “Nothing to tell Adena” I really wanted the conversation to end. “Then, why are you here, surely you are not from this pack” “I was captured by Darian” I replied. “What pack were you from” “I was from the bond pack and I never want to go back” I touched the necklace that my father gave me and my fingers played with it for a while. “What did they do?” “They killed my father, he did not do it, he was innocent” the tears I thought had ditched me reappeared and I sobbed while Adena held me close. After a while of hugging and comforting me, she went over to assist Eddie. I stared into space as thoughts of my father’s pleading face flashed before my eyes. “Aria?” a messenger called, waking me from my trance. “Yes” I replied. “The alpha wants to see you” he informed me. “Why does he want to do that?” “I have no idea, but I do have clear instructions to bring you along” “Okay let’s go” I summoned the courage to say. As we moved through the hallway, my heart was clearly in my throat. I mean what could Darian possibly want from me? I had done everything properly today right?
