Chapter 21: 11:11 Alice's POV "Hey, I've been standing here for at least 15 minutes now, so can you just explain why you called me here? You're interrupting me way too much. If this is not about Mae, then I'll leave." Giving in from the silent treatment he started giving me, since he finished talking with the detective on the phone till now, before he left and dropped me off in the lobby this morning with the last line he told me— "Sorry, I still can't tell you what the detective had told me, but rest assured, you're getting to see her soon." Honeyed with assurance, he managed to ooze a compelling air around him telling I shouldn't utter more questions because, just like earlier, he planned to keep his mouth shut and not answer me. Sensing the gazes from everywhere here gazing at the lobby from the employees passing by, I started not to care anymore and just decided to keep a straight face. I'm too tired to deal with these jealous and threatening people. I thought, looking dead tired at Lennox, who swiftly turned his back from me, marching towards the glass door. Bearing witness to how he walked out and having the unspeakable and unwanted benefit of seeing how cold his face had turned just right after he turned his back, through his reflection from the glass doors, I hissed. Not feeling surprised more, I could only think that he's hiding something from me, that he's been itching to leave me here at my cage to do what he needs to do in his mind. Whatever it is, I don't care but, after managing to hear her name in their conversation a while ago, I know this has to do with Mae. Knowing he wouldn't spill any information about what the detective told him, I began to feel uneasy. And, the thought of escaping after he drops me off here keeps on popping in my mind. But I know he's not stupid to just let me off unguarded… I thought, glancing over the guards at the front door and to Mr. George, who has been keeping his eyes on me since we stepped in here. Damn you, Lennox. Tsk. I'll make sure to read that damned contract! Ugh, this is driving me nuts! Cussing him in mind, trying to keep an unfazed face, I just stood there watching him until he hopped in his car and drove out fast. Making it evident to me that something's up, and he's not telling me. Tsk, why does he have to keep it from me?! Does he also want to control my affairs?! Tsk, this is much worse than I think it would be. Ugh, I didn't know those old men would try to play this dirty on me. Sending a masochist psycho to manipulate me?! They're all nuts! After seeing him off from here, I went straight ahead to my office's department, not minding the people staring and mumbling at me. "Hmm? but you can't do that, you're not in the position to say no, here," Lennox responded after letting minutes pass. That snapped me to the present. After getting a call from our office's department, I tried to get here as fast as possible. Feeling the chance to finally ask him about things I should know as I still can't reach Mae's phone. But after seeing how he was too drowned in his papers, I just stood there waiting for him to voluntarily lift his eyes at me, and yet, here I am, cannot wait any longer as I feel that he's just getting back at me from what I did earlier this morning when he for waiting outside my door. "Hmm, then fire me," I said, confidently daring him to do so. That stopped him from moving his pen, and he finally looked at me. "Fire? How could I fire my girlfriend? ~" He said, sounding so sweetly in my serious dead face. He probably wanted to hit my nerve, but I didn't budge and let out a smirk that raised his brow. Want to trigger me? Ah, it would help you badly if you did better than that. "Give yourself a break, will you?" I said, trying to sound caring. Smiling at him, he immediately lightened up his grim-looking face, probably thinking I was giving a damn about his hectic schedule. "Oh, please just wait a moment—" He said, but I cut him off, laughing sarcastically, seeing his pace get faster. "What I meant was give yourself a break from acting this way," I said, putting my hand on my waist, looking menacingly at him. "I mean, come on. Get real, since I already know you're some sick prick, what's the point of pretending nice? Aren't you getting tired of keeping up that smile? Pfft, really? You're not even making any efforts to hide it." "Next time, if you're trying to act genuine, at least try not to turn the smile off right away just after you turn, especially when there's something in front that could reflect that face. Also, what? Be my girlfriend-deal? Seriously, that's the lamest s**t I've heard." I said, trying to provoke him. Reminding him of the times, I saw him changing his expression. Hmm, who knows? If this gets on his nerves, then I can make him willingly bail from the deal he made and fire me. That's hitting two birds with one stone. "Hmm?" I uttered, arching a brow when his shocked reaction took a while longer than I expected it to be, then suddenly he laughed out loud. Ugh—reminding me of a familiar scene from when I confronted him at the condominium's building lobby, f*cking déjà vu. Why? Why? Have I forgotten that 'that' is what makes him a prick?! "HA HA HA HA!" His guffaws echoed in the large room, causing me to freeze and look at him with s**t in mind momentarily. His loud outburst of laughter sends creeps that crawl up and down crawling my skin, nevertheless, feeling slowly getting used to this kind of feat. I stood there, staring at him until he calmed down his laughter into giggles. What did I expect? That he'd get offended and act as an average person would? Ah, no, Alice, you shouldn't let your hopes out that this person will just do as you planned. Speaking to myself inwardly, staring dead at him. Ugh, I should've known better. I thought, remembering what he did to my taunts yesterday. I can't believe anything from his to Mae's issue just happened yesterday. It feels like the stress for worth one year just fell on me all at once yesterday— "Oh, Alice, you get me every time you try to be seductive," he said, getting teary-eyed from his outburst. And today, damn, this is sick. "What the hell?" I uttered, looking at him with disgust. Seductive?! Ugh, disgusting. Does he find that seductive?! Ugh, damn masochist. "Oh, see? What an alluring sight I have here. Oh, Alice, you're so perfect." He said, intertwining his fingers, leaning his arms on the desk as he put his head on them, looking like a fool adoring me with his glimmering eyes. "Tsk, stop. You're making me cringe." I said, feeling it to the bone. This is my first time meeting a masochist—dang, how do I deal with him?! Should I just act timid—wait, am I going to do that only in order to get rid of him? "And you're making me fall harder." He said, full of passion that shuddered my processing thought. Ah… he's beyond saving…yes, he's beyond saving. "Oh, I love that face you are making." He said, that made me recover from my blank state with his blooming grin and eyes looking at me. "It's clearly saying, 'you disgusting piece of shit.'" He added, sounding joyous and excited in his seat. As if it's he's receiving compliments. "You…ugh, never mind," I said, surrendering from arguing with him any further. To think this man in front of me has succeeded in many things in life for his age is someone this crazy— I know everyone has their wild side but he—he is just, tsk, really it reminds me of the saying 'there's a thin line between madness and geniuses.' I thought, looking at the certificates posted on the wall that prove he’s one of a kind man. Looking back at him, as he innocently flashed his grinning face, looking like he's on top of cloud nine, he said— "Oh! Want to grab lunch? I'm starving—" "Cut the bullshit, Lennox. What do you want from me? Can't you just tell me directly and spare us the hassle of beating around the bushes?" Cutting him off, I uttered in disinterest. Feeling stressed about worrying about Mae, and aunty. The thoughts of endless possibilities run through my mind in circles and fooling around with him here doesn’t help me one bit— "I…want you." He said, lovingly looking at me. "Huh?" The heck, I swear he has some loose screw. "Alice—" There at that moment, as he continued and mouthed his preach of his so-called love, in which I find the most disturbing s**t I've ever heard so far in my life. I started to feel something bothering me that kept on pulling me backwards as his words sinked in deeper, then the feeling of familiarity crept into my mind. It's as if the words he's telling me—I know; I heard these words somewhere—or read. Where did I find these? Ugh, he keeps going, and the more I listen, the more it shakes my head. "Alice? Oh! I have ordered food! I think it's about to come any minutes by now." He said, looking at the clock on the wall. Instinctively looking at it, I froze. "Ahh…yes, of course," I uttered, finally remembering where I knew the words he had just spoken. 11:11, yes…tsk. I guess I really won't have a dull moment now, huh?
