Chapter 2 – The Unseen Chains
Amanda Quinn woke to the sound of her phone buzzing relentlessly on the nightstand. Her head ached not from alcohol or partying, but from the chaotic storm of yesterday evening, a night that felt like a fevered dream she couldn’t shake.
Messages, missed calls, and notifications flooded her screen. Her manager’s name flashed repeatedly. Panic rose in her chest. Carefully, she picked up the phone, her fingers trembling slightly.
Amanda! Where have you been? You disappeared last night at the gala! Reporters were all over the story” her manager’s frantic voice cut through.
I… I had an incident,” Amanda said, keeping her voice steady, though her mind was anything but. Nothing happened, okay? I’m fine.
Her manager paused, skeptical. Amanda, you disappeared with Zeke Blake. Zeke… the mafia kingpin?
Amanda froze. Her stomach twisted. She had hoped the night’s events wouldn’t follow her into the glaring light of day. But the world always found a way to complicate things.
“Yes, she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. He… he just appeared. That’s all.
Her manager sighed heavily. “Amanda, do you understand how dangerous that is? He’s not someone you just met. Zeke Blake doesn’t play games.
Amanda rubbed her temples. I know… I know. I just She trailed off. How could she explain the magnetism, the way her pulse had jumped, the way fear and fascination had collided inside her in a way she had never experienced before? No one would understand.
She ended the call, leaning back against her pillows. Her phone vibrated again. A text from an unknown number:
“I need you tonight. Don’t think of running.
Her heart thudded. She stared at the screen, debating whether to reply, delete it, or call security. But something inside her—a dangerous curiosity—made her hesitate.
The day passed in a blur of rehearsals and interviews, but Amanda could hardly focus. Every time she glanced at her phone, the text lingered like a shadow over her thoughts. Who was this man who had not only claimed her in front of the world but now insinuated himself into her life with an unsettling intimacy?
By evening, she found herself standing in front of the full-length mirror, adjusting her outfit for an event she wasn’t sure she even wanted to attend. A sleek black dress clung to her curves, subtle and elegant, the kind of attire that demanded attention without pleading for it. Her reflection stared back at her, a mixture of defiance and apprehension.
The moment she stepped outside, the engine of a black luxury car hummed nearby. She froze, and before she could react, the door opened.
Get in, a voice said.
Zeke Blake. Gray eyes sharper than a blade, a presence that made the night feel smaller, the world insignificant. Amanda hesitated, heart racing, but the pull she felt toward him was undeniable.
“You can’t keep doing this, she whispered as she slid into the car. I don’t even know what this is.
He closed the door, the click echoing like a verdict. “It’s reality. And Amanda… reality doesn’t wait for permission.”
The car glided silently through the city streets, the world outside a blur of neon lights and midnight shadows. Amanda’s thoughts swirled. She tried to remind herself that Zeke Blake was dangerous, ruthless, and unpredictable. She was a rising star in the acting world, trained to navigate chaos but this was a different kind of storm, one she couldn’t rehearse for.
Finally, after a long silence, Zeke spoke. “You’re thinking I kidnapped you. You’re thinking I’m insane.
Amanda met his gaze. “And you’re not?”
His lips curved in a small, amused smile. “I’m exactly who I say I am. And you… you intrigued me. From the moment I saw you, I knew you were different.”
Amanda frowned. “Different how? I’m just… an actress.
An actress who hides fire beneath her smile. Someone who refuses to be tamed easily. Someone is worth the trouble.”
The words sent an unexpected warmth through her chest, even as a chill of fear ran down her spine. “Worth the trouble? For what? What do you want from me?”
Zeke’s eyes darkened. Everything. And nothing. You’ll understand soon enough.
Amanda clenched her fists, trying to stay composed. I don’t do well with mysteries, she said, though her voice betrayed her unease.
“Good,” he murmured. “Because life with me isn’t meant to be understood. It’s meant to survive and lived.
The car slowed, and Amanda realized they had arrived at a private location she didn’t recognize. The building was sleek, modern, almost sterile, but emanating power in every line and corner. Zeke led her inside without explanation, and she followed, mind spinning with questions she didn’t dare ask aloud.
Inside, the space was minimalistic, cold, yet elegant. A grand staircase led to a second level, walls lined with art pieces she couldn’t decipher. Zeke gestured for her to sit on a sleek leather chair.
“Why am I here? she asked, trying to mask the tremor in her voice.
Zeke leaned against the edge of a table, crossing his arms. Because you need to see what life without rules looks like. Because you need to understand me, Amanda. And because I don’t like surprises.
She blinked. I’m not a part of your world.
You are now, he said softly, almost like a warning. “And believe me… there’s no turning back.
Amanda swallowed hard. Her heart pounded, not from fear alone, but from a mixture of excitement and something darker. Something magnetic about him made her feel alive in a way she hadn’t in years.
She wanted to resist. She knew she should. And yet… she couldn’t.
Do you… always get what you want? she asked, her voice steadier than she felt.
Zeke’s lips curved. Always.
The words sent a chill through her. She wanted to hate him. She wanted to fight him. But the truth was she didn’t.
As the night wore on, they talked or rather, he spoke, and she listened, caught in the magnetic gravity of his presence. He spoke of power, control, and inevitability. He spoke of consequences for those who underestimated him, and of rewards for those who dared to challenge him. And through it all, Amanda realized one thing with terrifying clarity: Zeke Blake wasn’t just dangerous. He was inevitable.
Hours passed like minutes. When he finally left, he handed her an envelope, sleek and black, with her name embossed in silver.
“Open it when you’re alone, he said, his gray eyes locking with hers. And Amanda… remember. Curiosity can be dangerous.
She watched him leave, the sound of the car engine fading into the distance. Her hands trembled as she opened the envelope. Inside was a single card:
“You belong to me now.
Amanda’s pulse raced. She laughed nervously, a sound that was both fear and disbelief. She was an actress. She was supposed to be in control. And yet… here she was, heart pounding, mind racing, captivated by a man she barely knew.
Sleep eluded her that night. Her mind kept replaying the encounter, Zeke’s gray eyes, his commanding presence, his words that echoed in her mind: You’re mine.
By morning, the reality of the world outside crashed back in. Calls from managers, paparazzi rumors, and even some threatening messages found their way to her phone. But Amanda knew one truth, undeniable and consuming: Zeke Blake had changed everything.
And for the first time, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to escape.
