Chapter 7       The weeks passed by and everything seemed to be going great. Mr. Mason seems to be believing we are trying to get along and we even had a few 'dates' to show that we are seriously trying.      What he didn't know was that the 'dates' were actually with other people. Drake was with his partner and Pearl was with Cass. Frankly, in all of their opinions it was best he didn't know that.       Today they were all out at the park sitting around the pond watching the ducks splash and play.       "So, um, there is something I would like to talk to you about." Pearl looks at her and worry starts going through her like lightning. She has never seen Cass so nervous which only heightens her anxiety.       Cass grabs her hand and holds it tightly. A small calm comes over them both but isn't fully tapered down. "I want you to meet my pa- uh hm." She clears her throat. "My family."       Pearl takes in a relieved breath and exhales. Oh my god! I thought she was going to leave me, But to meet her family? Will they like me? Are they like my mother? Or..      Pearl was both afraid and excited at the thought. She must have been taking too long to reply because she hears Cass add. "I mean as long as you want to.. I uh you know it doesn't have to be now or-" Pearl cuts her off with a kiss.        "I'd love to meet your family." She says, giving Cass another kiss and a comforting squeeze of her hand.         "How about this weekend?" Cass askes with a little less nervousness in her voice.       "Perfect. I'm sure we can work that out with Drake and Peter." Peter is Drake's partner. He is a little taller than Drake with sandy brown hair and a smile that lights up a room. Pearl looks over to them.  "They make the cutest couple! It's like they were made for each other."        "Do you believe in stuff like that? Like someone is truly made for and fated for another?" Cass asks. There is something in her eyes that Pearl can't read, but she can tell that this is a serious question. She takes a moment to think about it before she answers.        "Actually, yes I do." She looks down shyly. "I have always seen people that I just knew, they belonged to each other, like God or Fate or whatever it is, made them just for their other half. I have seen others together that I also just knew somehow that they wouldn't work, and wondered why they wasted their life and time with someone that wasn't their other half." Pearl looked up and looked into Cass's eyes. Grabbing her hands tightly she continued. "Even though I understood loneliness and guessed that's why some didn't wait for that special someone, because they couldn't stand the loneliness, I vowed to wait no matter how alone I felt. I just knew I would someday find my other half. I'm glad I did because, though, how I got here and the situation isn't the most ideal," She leans towards Cass, putting a hand on her cheek, she whispers. "I feel I've found my other half. You are my other half and I can't explain it but I feel it deep into my soul. You and I were made for each other." Cass grabbed her and kissed her with so much love and passion they were both left breathless.      "We are Fated mates, Pearl. You're right. We are made for each other and no matter what I will do everything to protect you and make you the happiest woman in the world." Cass's eyes sparkled with a mix of emotions. She placed a soft kiss on Pearl's lips.        "Hey love birds! We better head back home soon." Drake calls to them with a chuckle.        "I guess that's our queue to pack up." Pearl laughs and waves at Drake and Peter to signal they heard.        "Yeah, though I hate for this day to end." Cass sighs and starts packing up.       "Me too, but I am excited for the weekend!"       We get everything together and get it to the car and start loading it into the trunk. Suddenly there's a loud bang, then another and another. Screams break out as people start running and parents grab their children. Suddenly Pearl is on the ground, her body being covered by Cass.       "Are you ok?" Cass grabs Pearl and sits up pulling her in different directions as she inspects every inch.       "I'm fine. What happened?" Pearl looks at Cass, a gasp leaving her lips just as she covers them. Cass's eyes are a burning amber color but before she can even think about that two things happen simultaneously.       Pearl notices the blood on Cass's shirt and the heartbreaking scream that breaks free of Drake's mouth.       The girls turn to see Peter laying in a growing pool of his own blood. He's been shot.       "Call 911!" Cass yells, "Drake! Call 911 now!" Breaking out of his daze he does as she tells him.      She grabs out one of the blankets we had used for our picnic and puts it under Peter's head. She grabs out the other and a pair of scissors and starts cutting as quickly as she can. She uses the cut pieces to bandage the wound on his shoulder and the rest she places on the wound on his side.       "Pearl quickly put pressure on his shoulder wound, we have to slow the bleeding or he won't last long enough for medical help."      Pearl rushes to do as Cass says. Holding her hands down on Peter's shoulder she whispers her apologies to him for causing him more pain.       Drake hangs up the phone and drops beside Peter. "Hold on my love, help is coming. Please hold on." With one hand he grabs hold of Peter's hand and places his other on his cheek. "You hang on, you hear me?" Peter's face has gone pale but his eyes shine up at Drake.       "I love you." He says, his voice barely a whisper, his eyes fighting to stay open.      "I love you too. Now shhh, save your strength. Help is almost here. Keep your eyes on me.. Don't you dare even think about leaving me!" Drake demands in a broken voice.       Peter smiles up at Drake as his eyes close and his head falls to the side.        "No! No! No!" Drake sobs, "You can't die on me! Open your eyes please!"
