Nicole's POV.
“In the name of the moon goddess, I pronounce you both, Alpha and Luna.” The elder officiating the ceremony announced it, and the entire pack howled at the same time. The sound of the howls went up to the sky, setting off fireworks in my stomach.
Finally! The night I waited for all my life was here.
The bright light of the moon shone brightly, almost as if the moon goddess was smiling widely. Xavier's face had a widespread smile as well, like he couldn't wait for the next part of the ceremony.
I couldn't wait either.
My heart kept beating fast as I stared at his grey eyes; something about those eyes drew me into him so badly.
It's been hours, and no one has yet to notice any change, not even Camille's best friends, who have been fangirling her ever since the ceremony preparation started.
None of those stupid, blonde bimbos noticed that it wasn't their friend in the dazzling pink dress.
Of course, they couldn't; no one could because I had a veil over my face, and since I was standing beside Xavier in place of Camille, no one could notice anything suspicious.
Despite how I succeeded with my plan to take Camille's place and get married to Xavier instead, I knew I was getting myself into more trouble than anyone in my entire generation had gotten into.
I was messing with a ruthless, cold Alpha who could tear my body into pieces, limb by limb, but if doing this guaranteed my freedom from that b***h, Camille, I was ready to do it over and over.
“You may now unveil your bride.” The elder’s voice floated into my thoughts.
It's time.
Xavier lifted the veil slowly, and with every passing second, I watched his beautiful smile morph into shock, confusion, and slowly, anger. His smile disappeared completely, just to be replaced by anger.
“What nonsense is this?” He seethed with pure rage. His fangs appeared almost immediately. The sudden appearance of his fangs reminded me of just how much trouble I would be in if I messed things up at that point.
I could hear the gasps of shock from the crowd. The entire ground went as silent as a graveyard, but I couldn't care less.
“I think you might have to keep your voice low.” I started with a sweet but creepy smile. I took a step closer to him and stretched to whisper into his ear.
“Your bride is knocked out in a secret location with the poison I gave to her. She has just two hours to live; her life depends on you, so pick your poison.”
He froze in shock with widened eyes. I stepped back and switched my countenance to show that I wasn't playing around.
“What do you think you're doing?” He whispered, still angry.
“Getting married to you, of course.” I mouthed to him. His eyes were blazing with fire, but I couldn't care less.
He could decide to spit out fire like a dragon, and it wouldn't alter my plans one bit.
For the rest of the ceremony, Xavier's face remained the same. Red, furious, and enraged. He stared at me with contempt, hatred, and anger in his eyes that made my skin crawl.
“You're not doing this for him, Nicole.” I reminded myself and returned to putting on a fake smile for everyone at the ceremony.
Within a few hours, the ceremony came to an end. As a couple, we were the first to leave in a limo.
In the car, Xavier stayed away from me as far as he could. His fingers only brushed against mine once, and even then, he acted like I didn't exist. I expected the attitude, but for some reason, I felt hurt by his actions.
We finally made it to his house, and the minute we both got out of the car, he found a way to grab my neck and choke me in the dark.
The move caught me off guard, and I almost screamed for help, but after seeing how enraged he was, I decided against it.
“You b***h! What did you do to my woman?” He growled angrily.
“Nothing much, I just wanted to play around with her.” I let out a smirk. His hold on my neck tightened, stopping air from flowing into my lungs. My breath became stuck, and my entire body started to go cold.
I struggled for air and started to kick and tap him with fear rushing through me.
“Don't you dare mess with me, peasant. It's just us here, and I won't hesitate to tear your body into pieces if you don't tell me what I need to know." He spat furiously.
“I…I… She's fine; she should be awake in hours… please… let go…” I managed to stutter as his hold got tighter. My breath started to get really faint. My vision got blurry too, and I could feel his fingers digging deeper into my neck like he wanted to snap it off my body.
Then something clicked for me.
“You can't kill me…. I'm your mate now.” I muttered, loud enough for him to hear. His eyes turned darker as I uttered those words. I thought his choke would loosen at those words, but it became even tighter.
“If anything happens to Camille, be ready to pay for it with your life.” He threw me to the ground like a piece of trash and stormed off to his room.
I wasn't deterred because I'd gotten what I wanted: a life away from Camille.
I joined him in his room, and the first thing that caught my attention was the sweet-smelling fragrance of his room.
I looked around, and just like I expected, his room gave off an Alpha aura. Everywhere was painted black, including the ceiling. His king-sized bed also had a black bedsheet. I tiptoed into the room, and whilst looking around, I found him taking his shoes off.
“Where can I put my things when they come?” I asked but got no response.
“What side of the room is mine?” I asked after a few minutes. He finally turned to me but with a piercing glare.
“Listen to me, peasant. In the house, you never try to talk to me. If you do, consider it the last day you have your head on your body.” He threatened with venom in his eyes.
Clearly, I just signed up for hell.
