Draven POV
The little minx bit me. I couldn't believe her audacity. She acted as though even sitting beside me and my brother was a burden she didn't want to bear.
I sat down and glared at her.
She remained oblivious, feeding that little rat puppy meat she stole from the table and humming lightly under her breath as she filled her plate.
"She's f*****g insane," I snapped at Malakai. "Did you see what she did? She's like a wild animal."
"Try not to make her angry, Draven. You know how you get when you lose your temper," Malakai advised, "and maybe you shouldn't have tried to grab her forcibly."
"It's insulting that our mate won't sit with us."
He sighed.
"You're taking it personally. Give her time to get used to us. The more you force her, the more you're going to push her away," he warned.
I sat up straight when Liana came waltzing in, her hips sashaying, her bright red hair cascading down her back, her lips painted ruby red.
She smiled at us and walked over, heels clacking loudly on the floor.
"Draven," she purred as Malakai turned away from her, "it's been a while. I missed you," she cooed, putting a hand on my shoulder, "did you miss me?"
"Draven," Malakai said warningly.
I smirked at him.
Liana sat down on my lap, winding her arms around my neck. She sat so close I could smell her perfume, a delicate hint of flowers and vanilla that usually made my mouth water but now just smelt slightly disgusting to me.
This was the perfect opportunity to make my mate jealous.
I shifted on my chair and pulled Liana closer as she giggled at me.
"It looks like you did miss me," she breathed.
I stole a glance at Juniper.
Dessert was brought out.
Her eyes lit up, and she snatched a piece of cake, happily beginning to devour it, licking her lips between bites.
It was like she was making love to it as she constantly moaned her delight.
It went straight to my groin.
Malakai looked just as turned on.
"So good," Juniper moaned, closing her eyes in bliss. "Life is simply better with chocolate cake," she announced.
This girl was obsessed with chocolate cake. I stared in shock as she finished the first slice and then stole another one.
Where the hell did she put it all?
Liana turned to watch, wrinkling her nose at Juniper.
"Where the hell did you come from? God, do you have to act like such a pig?" Her voice was filled with disgust.
I stiffened.
Juniper beamed at her.
"Thanks for the compliment. I've always found pigs to be adorable, and did you know they are extremely smart? They're smarter than dogs and can learn tricks quickly. They also like listening to music, but preferably not rap," she babbled.
"Is that true?" Malakai whispered to me.
"Hell if I know," I snapped back quietly, "feel free to look it up."
He grabbed his phone to check.
"I didn't mean it as a compliment. I meant you're a pig because of the way you eat," Liana spoke to Juniper condescendingly.
"I like food," Juniper acknowledged cheerfully and then made a point of looking Liana up and down. "To be honest, you look like you could use a bit more of it. Why don't you have some cake?" she shoved a piece at a shocked Liana.
"How dare you speak to me that way? Do you have any idea who I am?"
"Irritating, conceited, arrogant, self-centred and rather bitchy," Juniper said solemnly, "quite frankly, unless you're a celebrity, I couldn't care less."
Liana stood up abruptly.
"I am their childhood sweetheart and close friend. We've known each other for years. You're just a nobody," she spluttered.
Juniper arched a brow at her, still subtly eating small mouthfuls of cake. I noticed rather distantly that the little hellhound puppy had vanished.
"Childhood sweetheart means a crush and no interest in pursuing romance once you reach adult age," Juniper shrugged. "It would be advisable to move on from the past and stop clinging to both men who clearly have no intentions of making you their girlfriend, let alone their Luna."
Liana moved before I could stop her.
"Liana, don't," Malakai snarled, getting to his feet as I did the same. "You don't know who she is. Touch her, and you're dead!" he thundered.
But Liana had always been stubborn. We'd never chastised her before, and she didn't take our warning seriously.
I moved, trying to grab Liana before she made a terrible mistake.
She swung her hand back.
Juniper didn't even blink.
She grabbed Liana's hand and then twisted it hard before Liana could slap her. She stood up and then yanked on Liana's wrist as she screamed in pain.
"Let go, you b***h," Liana howled.
"A minute ago you were trying to hurt me. What, you can dish it out but not take it?" Juniper mocked.
She let go of Liana's hand, and Liana sobbed as she clutched it with her other hand.
The wrist was broken.
"Draven, Malakai, did you see what she did to me? You aren't going to let this go unpunished, are you?" she shrieked, turning back to us.
"She's our mate, Liana. You should never have tried to put hands on her," Malakai was ropeable as Liana turned ashen. "I told you to stop."
"Mates?" Liana whispered between trembling lips, "Then why did you let me sit on your lap, Draven? I thought you cared about me?"
"He was trying to make me jealous," Juniper chirped, "too bad for him it didn't work. It was a good try though," she added kindly, looking at me, "A+ for effort."
"Damnit, Juniper. Can you be serious for once! Liana, I apologize. I shouldn't have used you like that. It was wrong of me."
Liana sniffled.
"It's okay, Draven. I understand. But we can still be friends, right? You're not going to let having a mate ruin our friendship, are you?"
"Of course not," Juniper interjected before I could say anything, "I'm not the type of girl to control him like that. I mean, that would be like him trying to tell me I couldn't have male friends."
"You can't have male friends," I hissed at her.
"Ah, such male Alpha energy. I don't recall asking permission. Reaper," Juniper suddenly called, glancing around the room, "where are you?"
"Reaper?" Liana asked, confused. "Who is Reaper?"
She screamed and jumped back as Reaper bit her on the ankle.
"Why is there a hellhound in the dining room?" she screamed in a panic.
Juniper rushed to pick Reaper up and cuddle him in her arms.
"There, there, Reaper. Did the angry woman frighten you?" she cooed. "It's okay; I'm here now. I'll protect you."
"He bit me!" Liana screeched, "he has no business being in this house! Take it away and get rid of it!"
"Nope," Juniper was blunt, "Reaper is mine. If he bit you, he had a good reason. Maybe your voice set him off, or that repulsive perfume that makes me want to bite you myself."
Liana gaped at her.
I sighed.
This was not going well.
I'd failed to make my mate jealous, and she had turned dinner into a chaotic event of mass proportions.
"Just so you know, everything she said about pigs is true," Malakai whispered in awe.
"Not the time, Malakai," I snapped.
"Liana, how about we get that wrist and ankle seen to?" Malakai said graciously, offering to take her hand.
She pouted.
"Only if Draven takes me," she whimpered.
Juniper rolled her eyes.
"I wasn't aware your legs don't work. Reaper must have bitten you harder than I thought," she commented.
"My ankle hurts, Draven," Liana's voice grew pained. "Please take me to the infirmary. My wrist, it's broken," she choked out.
"It wouldn't be appropriate, Liana," I told her and motioned to two of my men. "Take her to the infirmary, please," I instructed them.
"Draven," Liana protested as the men began to tug her towards the exit, "Draven. Please, it hurts so much."
"Bye, Liana. Get well soon. Try not to trip on the stairs," Juniper happily waved at her.
Silence.
"Well, that was interesting. I have to say she is beautiful, but her intelligence is minimal. You could do a lot better than her," Juniper said breezily, "but don't let me stop you if you want to make her your Luna. I won't stand in your way."
"We don't want anybody else but you," Malakai barked at her.
"I give it a week before you get tired of me," Juniper shrugged. "In the meantime, I'm going to sleep. I'm stuffed," she patted her stomach.
"Juniper," Malakai began.
But she was already skipping out of the room, leaving Malakai and me to glance at each other uncertainly.
Was this girl going to be more trouble than she was worth?
