III. The Marriage

708 Words
Rudra's POV: She had agreed. Our marriage was fixed two days later even if father found it too quick I managed to convince him. I wanted to see Jaanvi in pain as soon as possible. I was doing my routine exercise in my personal gym when Soumya walked in, " What are you upto?", she asked sounding pretty annoyed. I was sitting opposite to her lifting dumbbells. I said, " Father wanted a heir for the family, mother wanted a daughter in law to help her and I wanted a revenge. Don't all of them go and connect to one person? ", I said with a smile. " Revenge? Like really? What's wrong with you? You had loved her once upon a time and now you want a revenge? ", she said in an astonished, disbelievingly voice. " Why not?", I said keeping the dumbbell and walking upto her. " I know you better than you know yourself and one thing's for sure, you are just going to hurt yourself while hurting her.", she said. I had been wearing a vest with trousers. I picked my shirt and put it on while I replied, " Some things will be revealed with time. I must get ready, my marriage is just two days later. ", I said as I walked out of the gym leaving her alone. Two days passed by soon. I stood in my room looking at myself wearing a really costly sherwani with a gems studden sword in my hand. I turned to leave for the big pandal that had been made for my marriage. More than a hundred guests had been called and the palace had been decorated just like a bride. After all, it was my marriage. Jaanvi's POV: I stood up wearing the heavy embroided saree that had been gifted to me for the marriage from Rudra's family. Just then mom walked in my room and asked me to come with her for the marriage. I walked into the pandal to find Rudra sitting in front of the priest with his hands joined. There was a huge crowd around the elevated place on which our marriage was to be held. I had a long veil turned on due to which only little was visible. I was made to sit beside Rudra by mom and then all the rituals of the marriage begun. I remembered our childhood days as they went on. Flashback It was the first day in class seven. Rudra walked into class to find no one but me, sitting alone on my seat reading a book. " Where should I be sitting?", he asked politely. " I don't know.", I simply replied as he came and sat beside me. " What the-", I begun saying when he suddenly said, " You didn't know where I should be sitting so I sat on the place I liked. On any case Rudra Pratap Singh is the name.", he said as he raised his hand for a handshake. I turned my face away from him. He lowered his hand and walked out of the classroom. He was definitely not hurt, he just wanted to entertain some girls who were standing outside the class waiting for him to emerge. He was the most irritating person I used to think but with time, something about this extremely talkative boy seemed to charm me. He knew the perfect time for cracking his stupid jokes and making me smile. A true friend, he could be... I didn't realize when that true friend of mine, turned into my first love.. Flashback Ends My thoughts were suddenly interrupted when I was asked to stand up and take the 'saat phere' or seven rounds around the holy fire which stood in the centre of the elevated stage. After that both of us sat and he put the vermilion on my hair line and then he made me wear the 'mangalsutra'. After that the priest proclaimed us as husband and wife. The worst proclamation I ever heard. We took blessings from all the elders. Just then mom appeared and took me to his room.. Tonight was going to be my first night with him, or rather the worst night of my life.. ---
